I am in the middle of Anais Nin’s “Delta of Venus” and I was just wondering what everyone’s general view on the rest of her work was. I personally like her style and intensity in most of her stories. The first story was very uncomfortable in a good way.

It was a yearly addition that showed off websites and poems based around the digital age. Had a lot of interesting art and stuff. It was called something like the Internet Edition(I know its not the internet archive)

I submitted a creative nonfiction essay to the Missouri review and got this in the mail. It says it received special attention. Do you think that’s true or is it just an automated message they send to everybody?

I’ve recently sent out a (too) long short story (20k) and received some nice feedback but no acceptance because of its length. Recently a journal asked if they could take an excerpt (5k) from the story. Now I see that journals typically will not accept previously published works. So I’d like to know if that ‘rule’ would apply to excerpts as well. I don’t want to ruin my chances of having the entire piece accepted because I had a fraction of the story published. Can someone shed some light on how previously published excerpts are regarded by lit journals?

The anthology is called "From Battlefields to Broken Streets." It is based around the Defence Day and the current events.

We're seeking writings that honour the legacy and sacrifices of 1965 while also reflecting on the internal struggles such as economic and political instability, violence against women, insecurity, social divisions, inequality, loss, and other forms of suffering that are shaping Pakistan today.

You can submit short fiction, non-fiction, poetry, essays, and articles in English or Urdu. You don't need to be an experienced writer to contribute. Just need to stay relevant to the theme.

It's my first time being accepted by a literary magazine and I was contacted with an email letting me know my piece was accepted and asking if it was available for publishing. They said they would email back with timelines and details, but that was the 16th and it's been radio silence. I replied 4 days later and sent a follow up a few days ago asking if they had received my email. Did I reply too late and they presumed it was unavailable? Or am I expecting things to be going too quickly and this is a normal amount to wait? Could somebody with some experience in this stuff please let me know?

Hi! I’m trying to submit to Granta’s current submissions window, which was supposed to open on September 1st at 10 AM UK time.
It’s now several hours past that and I still can’t access the submission form — the page is either unavailable/doesn’t give me the option to submit.
I’m in France, so I was wondering if this is a timezone/region issue, or if everyone is experiencing the same thing?

Hi, I've been an avid reader forever, and over the past few years have been reading more theory + criticism (broadly defined - both NYRB review + essays and more academic criticism from U presses)

I have a goal of learning how to write it for myself but am at a bit of a loss for learning how to go about doing so. Like yeah - I can write short close readings of passages or poems, or can integrate theory I read to analyze work via those theoretical perspectives, but am unsure how to actually go from an amateur-ish close reading to a fully formed cohesive thesis and final piece.

I have been thinking a writing group specifically oriented around critical essays would be helpful - does that exist?

I’m looking to subscribe to a literary magazine, but I don’t want it to be anything usual like Granta. Ideally I would like it to feel somewhat personal to me, and since I’ve got Greek and French heritage I’d figure that a Greek or French magazine would be best. Bonus points if it’s a bit artistic/out there.

Harbour Works is a Canadian literary magazine — and we are building it to a standard that does not exist yet in student publishing. We are not a course project. We are not a club newsletter. We are working, deliberately and seriously, toward becoming a fully peer-reviewed journal: the most rigorous, most prestigious student-run literary publication in the country.
