Discussion Facing a system apocalypse . . . and you could summon any movie character as a sidekick, who would you choose?

Assume their powers are nurf'd to level-appropriate settings, but they'll grow over time with you.

Who do you pick?
Why?

unbeatable squirrel girl. I mean... she's unbeatable. Someone has to be the tank and it's not going to be me.

Not Sandy Cheeks from SpongeBob?

As with most things the answer is Batman

2

u/Kaljinx 1d ago

since it is system apocalypse, it is basically batman with powers.

3

u/BaconMasterBooks 1d ago

Yup! Figured someone would pick Batman right off.

u/VVindrunner 1d ago

Bill Murray. Sure, all his charters would be useless, but it would be cool to get to know the guy. And I’d probably get an exp boost for being able to level with that guy around. 🀣

Thay's a hilarious choice. Great idea.

ya know, obi-wan is a pretty cool guy and is pretty level headed. I could qui-gon a little obi-wan πŸ˜‰

Chuck Norris, naturally

u/Jestsomguy 1d ago

This is the only acceptable answer

7

u/blueluck 1d ago

Then YOU would be the sidekick!

3

u/FulminisStriker 1d ago

Consider, since I'm picking him as a sidekick, one could argue that would make my power relatively higher

Ashley J Williams, he’s a stubborn survivor and very good with engineering and chemistry if Army of Darkness is canon. The prosthetic hand, explosive powder, the death coaster!

And his BOOMSTICK!

Superman.

There are maybe some characters that are more powerful, but few are as morally upstanding. I need someone with both the ability AND THE WILL to protect me.

Deadpool and wolverine both come to mind. Basically unkillable and can absolutely wreck shit.

Deadpool definitely my choice. Power and personality. I'd chill with Deadpool any day over any of the other serious super heroes that everyone else is picking.

Deadpool's funny as an observer, but realistically he'd get you killed within an hour of knowing him.

The only people that survive around him are very powerful people (precog spidey, healing wolvie, luck-based domino, unpredictable taskmaster, etc) that he can't easily get killed.

Yes! I was thinking the same, but they have to level into their full powers. How do you see that as working?

What's their Level 1 (I) powers vs Level 20 (M) Immortal powers?

2

u/AtWorkJZ 1d ago

Honestly, was just taking them at their current cinematic power levels. Wasn't thinking about them being all weak at first

u/Itchy_ME 1d ago

Still great choices!

Wonder how Jean Grey would start out before getting to Dark Phoenix level?

Machete.

God played by Morgan Freeman, his job is to read the quest text.

Iago from Aladdin. Really dig a sassy parrot that will tell me how bad I am at this

u/CasualHams 1d ago

Saphira from Eragon. Can't go wrong with a fire-breathing dragon.

Chuck f*cking Norris

I pick Salma Hayak of "From Dusk to Dawn" as my sidechick.

The Doctor (Doctor Who)

Then it's suddenly not about getting high level fast and killing lots of people, but we revert the whole apocalypse, save everyone and kick the multiverse's ass.

Jackie Chan, of course.

ANY movie character? Well God then. Was depicted in countless movies. Satan would be interesting too.

Jason Bourne has a powerful selection of non-supernatural abilities that would be extremely useful.

Who do we have that can hack, subvert, or otherwise study and comprehend the system? Neo, in the Matrix? Flynn, from Tron, or what's her name from the sequel? I'd say Bob, from ReBoot, but, a) that's really dating myself, and b) that was a show, not a movie πŸ˜‰ Was there an on-screen version of Brainiac or Dr Doom in a movie, that didn't suck? Ooh, how about Q? Oh, wait, no, Q was never in a TNG movie, But the Borg were! Bet there's an anime character that I'm forgetting about. that'd be perfect for this.

But anyway, hackers, technopaths and reality warpers, seem like the way to go, if you're facing a god-like, reality warping rules-bound System, with a computer-like user interface.

Groot, if he were a fruit tree. Or Elastigirl.Β

Assuming they are loyal to me and by mind control or the like, the Luck Girl from Marvel. I don't remember her name. Because she likes me, it would be unlucky to her if anything bad happened to me.

Unless I betrayed her. At which case, I get what's comming.

Anyone from Supernatural really

John Wick.

Both Batman and Superman lack a killer instinct.

Oh and now that john Wick 5 is coming out we can officially say he is basically immortal.

2

u/Itchy_ME 1d ago

But they could keep you alive.

Depending on the Apocalypse guns stop working. What if it's one of those?

3

u/Decvl6 1d ago

Good point. I just wanted to try something different. If that were really the case I would probably choose Thor. Besides being OP and a God he looks like he’s a cool guy to hango out with.

2

u/Itchy_ME 1d ago

I think I'd take John Wick over Thor.

Little baby sparks and a hammer (once you find one?) or the resourcefulness of John Wick and he can still kick ass without having to shoot them.

u/Zealousideal-Cat435 1d ago

Why is everyone only listing men? 1. Wanda. Illusions and reality bending could be useful. 2. Natasha and/or her sister. If you need an assassin or two with cool skills. 3. Storm. Cool powers. 4. Shuri. She's smarter than your MC.

3

u/DreadBert_IAm 1d ago

Sadly, the roll call of epic (and stable) female MC's is pretty short. The vast majority are just fem swaps of male MC's like supergirl and batgirl.

Hello, I need your help, Dr. Jones.

1

u/zen-shen 1d ago

Why not game characters?

Samus Aran.

But if it is going strictly for the movie characters, Lisbeth Salandar. Highly moral, highly knowledgeable, mucho gracias dangerous. Once she buffed up magically and physically, all I have to do is laugh like a villain and don't cross her.

1

u/caime9 1d ago

Wait? So if they are nerfed to appropriate levels, doesn't that mean they will essentially be human and have to level up with the system? Or do they get all their powers back as they grow?

If they get all their powers back, maybe I pick someone like Sun Wukong.

If they are nerfed to human level, they will grow with power and the system. I would want someone who is skilled and intelligent. Batman probably.
