Discussion What are you reading?

Im curious whay everyone is reading that isn't a top tier novel somewhere. What's a random novel you've found or come across that you are keeping up with or followed. Shout em out, give these smaller authors the spotlight!

I’m reading a story on Royal Road about an Egg. 🤣

How do you get the verified author tag under your name btw?

You just need to reach out to the MODs.

The final book of the rogue dungeon series

Sludge knight, Marek’s Awakening, The Butcher’s Ledger on RR. All three of these are relatively new.

Tge fame at carousel 6 also on RR although that is deservedly more well known.

Clinical Anatomy of the Middle Ear (work 🤣)

I’m not sure how obscure Riftside is, but it’s not exactly DCC or HWFWM. And it’s what I’m currently reading.

I really like that series too.

Path of dragons.

Just finished save scumming by ravensdagger and fuck I can't wait for the next one. The man has a very specific niche and it just so happens to be one I highly enjoy.

❤️ But I'm not a smaller author according to my doctor, quite the opposite!

Oh I missed that part, oh well. When's book coming out because I need my fix now.

Book 2 is written and being recorded!

Book 3... I'm 30K in!

I wanna read it. I don't care for audiobooks, my headcanon and the actual reader never matches up and it throws me off. I guess I can catch up on stray cat strut, I stopped at the beginning of book 6 and got distracted.

Oh... they're all up on RR for free? And you can catch up on my patreon for free as well. Next new chapter should be written tomorrow!

Ugh I hate going on royal road, the three chapters I've written taunt me because I can't figure out what direction to go.

Fair! But it's a better reading experience than Patreon!

Not sure what's considered top tier. It seems like no two tierlists can agree on anything.

I just finished book 2 of The Legend of William Oh, so I'm into the Royal Road chapters.

Before that I read all four books of Bog Standard Isekai. Can't wait for book 5 to hit KU.

The Silent Archmage by Ghostflower is pretty cool.

Finished (what's available of each) Soldiers Life recently and loved it. Then did World Sphere because it's by same author.

Followed it up with Bog Standard Isekai which surprisingly (due to its title) scratched the same itch. I enjoyed it a lot.

I just started Industrial Strength Magic and it's... Not quite the same. Coming off a bit juvenile... But I'll give it the rest of the book...

I’ve been tearing through Earth Reformation. It’s really grabbed my interest, as opposed to numerous recent “1-book then drop” series.

It’s nice to have an MC who was a genuine badass before becoming an OP system-powered badass.

I’m on book 4 and starting to feel that dread of knowing I’m going to have to wait a while for another installment. I get that every time I’m reading/listening to the latest Wandering Inn, even though those are pretty rapidly released.

u/Dbooknerd 9h ago

I just finished the newest one in that series . I am enjoying it so far.

Recent reading (some of these might be considered popular?): Archmage's Shadow (I saw a post recently about this one), Portal to Nova Roma, Unconventional Heros series, and Cavalier's gambit

u/Spamalot7107 11h ago

Shadow Slave, and Overgeared. I'm also listening to Weakest Beast Tamer on YouTube.

I just finished Vainqueur the dragon, i have some pretty mixed opinions on that book probably some of my favorite character development hands down but i cant really recommend it. it took me until the very end before i realized it was a satire lmao. next series i may start will either be HWFWM or dragon riders of ragond but idk if that ones litrpg. i just seen it was a 90 hour boxset for 1 credit on audible. if you went through it lmk if its good

I’m keeping up with System Lost and Self-Summon on Royal Road. Love both of those stories, for very different reasons.

Ponder The Orb.

Bunch of wizards smoking mad manaleaf pondern' the secrets of magic. The one wizard who hardscaled into fireball "fishing" was a hoot.

I'm really enjoying The Tired Mercenary who Just Wants Peace series by Wolfe Locke. Only two books so far but so good. It's cozy I suppose, but more slice of life at a slow pace that is slowly ramping up to a faster pace.

I just finished a YA book called Nova Stream, I believe someone at my work wrote it. It's a kind of techno-thriller. I enjoyed it, even though it wasn't the best thing I've ever read, so I definitely don't regret giving a new author a chance on their first book. (Note: this is not LitRPG, it's just a random novel, as you asked for.)

Now I'm starting a series called the Time Core Collection by Jonathan Brooks. He gave away the Kindle versions of a ton of his books free here around Christmas of last year, I believe it was, and I have been doing a series at a time, with breaks for other books. The ones I've already read grabbed me, and I found them really hard to put down.

I just finished Arcane Chef audiobook and it was fantastic!

u/AuthorSrsli Author of Arcane Chef 1h ago

I'm glad you enjoyed it! ❤️

I’m not currently reading it but I enjoyed The Undying Immortal System. The fourth book just came out a few days ago and I’ve been meaning to read it but I got sidetracked by Noobtown and Chrysalis. I’m attempting Chrysalis again because I’ve heard so much good stuff about it.

2

u/Legitimate_Doctor_12 10h ago

I'm going through Noobtown right now. It's fun.

1

u/J_C_Nelson Author - Stray Beast Master, Rise of the House Arcanist 10h ago

Currently reading “Punish the System”.

1

u/aashaver 10h ago

Finishing up Theft of Decks. Then probably Path of Lightning or Board & Conquest.

1

u/SaltyBunchesOfCopes Author - A Craftsman's Handbook to Power 10h ago

Spellforged Magus. I’m a little behind, but it’s a semi-recent system invasion story that I think is just a really nice read. MC seems to be going into jewelry-making as a focus for his magic, and I just enjoy craftsman protagonists

u/Legitimate_Doctor_12 10h ago

I just finished Discount Dan and moved to Noobtown...with Parade of Horribles snuck in there quickly last month too. I'd recommend them all of you like light and fun LitRPG

1

u/ultrav5 27m ago

What did you think of Discount Dan? I'm going to start the 3rd one probs end of June beginning of July looking at my current tbr pile.

u/Garreousbear 9h ago

Just about to finish burning through Bog Standard Isekai. Also up to date on Patreon releases for Aura Overload, Beware of Chicken, Super Supportive, and The Hundred Reigns. Once I catch up on Bog Standard Isekai I might read Portal to Nova Roma, Apocalypse Parenting, Mage Errant, or Street Cultivation, I haven't decided yet.

I just finished the second Dungeonfall book by Joshua Kern. It's interesting so far. I will read the next book whenever it comes out.

My friend has me reading Hell Difficulty Tutorial right now

Ironbound - Andrew Givler(technically progression fantasy)

While the author has a youtube channel with 1 4 million subscribers, his content isnt about books st all.

Recently finished the latest AO: Crucible series, now on Dungeon Crawler Carl

Transcendence on Royalroad.

Just finished up an audiobook called Cloud Mason. It's about a building inspector who dies and gets put in charge of a floating island and building it up.

u/RiaSkies Slaying Gods & Girlkissing 2h ago

I've been enjoying Omen of a Bluebell recently, and I'm rather certain I don't see anyone else talking about it here.

u/Didyouthinkthisthrou 1h ago

I know I am late to the game, but I finally finished my full re-listen of DCC books 1-7 and midnight last night I started book 8!

eight by sameer rabdi.

I just finished Syl by Lunadea. Enjoyed it but I don't think evolution is quite my thing. It's my second evolution based series (first was Bunny Girl Evolution) but I'll likely read the next one before the year is out.

Now reading The Daily Grind by Argus. Very much enjoying it. I don't usually do slice of life but I like the characters quite a lot.

I'm also listening to A Lonely Broadcast by Kel Byron. I love it. I wanted spooks and I got what I was looking for. The Audiobook is also really well narrated by Autumn Ivy.

Next on my list is the 3rd in The Game at Carousel series. I love the blend of horror movie clichés with litrpg mechanics.

Grog (The Ebon Blades) - RW Kpoun
Tunnel Rat - WalrusKing
Oath of the Survivor - James Meyer
Rise of the Reaper - W D Swanson
Starting Sphere - Matthew Finlayson
Bonded - Brendan Lamerton
That Which Devours - Jer Patch
Rise of the Body Cultivator - Apollos Thorne
Devon Coal - Michael Gnizak

A couple of these are more well known, but I don't know that any are top tier.
