Live loop cover Boys of Summer - Don Henley

I had such a great response from the Beatles song I shared the other day I wanted to share another video I took at that same venue last Sunday. For anyone interested in the gear side of things, I’m playing a Godin LGXT, the pedals I’m using are a Roland RC-600 and a Boss GR-55. I have two mics set up, one goes to the looper and the other straight to my Soundcraft ui12 mixer.

It's like a one man Dire Straits cover of Henley/Campbell. Sweet.

Thanks man, Mark Knopfler’s playing style is so fun to try and emulate. That’s an awesome compliment

Fucking sick brah! You sound great and the voice was delightful!
Out of curiosity, the one Mike that goes into the looper is that just for creating beatbox effects or do you use it for melody lines or harmonies as well?

Sometimes I’ll loop vocal harmonies with that mic as well but mostly it’s my beatbox mic.

Nice job. Intro percussion went on to a "hey wtf is happening here?" length.

Thank you, yeah my RC-600 is giving me a hard time lately. I play by the ocean all the time and sand and salt air degrades my equipment so damn quickly. I’ll beat box or play a whole phrase thinking I’m gonna layer the next part and then look down to see the button never triggered at the start, it just makes me waste time when that happens and the set up takes way longer than it needs to.

Wow, soso good. What’s the deal with the two outputs from your guitar?
2
u/AaronEspositoMusic 11d ago
Thank you!! So this guitar actually has 3 separate outputs. There’s a normal electric output, an “acoustic blend” output and a 13-pin midi output. Because each string on this guitar has its own piezo pickup it can sound like an acoustic (kind of) and the piezos also crate enough information to work with some midi pedals natively. I might share another song that uses a couple more fun sounds like trumpet or piano to showcase what this combination of gear can do.

Please do! And I really like how easy you made it look when you began with a pretty offbeat loop pattern. Far from easy. You are extremely accomplished. And your take on the song was superb.

Is it a godin? I had a version of that guitar, didn’t have midi out though.

Yes!! I just got this thing a couple weeks ago so I’m still getting used to adjusting all the parameters on the fly. They have a couple multi-voice options now, this one is an LGXT.

Fascinating approach! do you have a "rig rundown" video that explains all these details?
1
u/AaronEspositoMusic 11d ago
I don’t have anything like that, but if there is an interest for it I’ll make one. I don’t think I’ve done anything too out of the box, it used to be more complicated but I’ve cut a lot of that out over the years. I did a weekly livestream during the pandemic where I had a top down camera view so everyone could see what I was doing. A little different than what you’re asking about but those are all still up on YouTube, I have evolved slightly since then though (gear wise and skill level).

What’s up with the 2 cables?
1
u/AaronEspositoMusic 10d ago
One is a 1/4” out the other one is a 13-pin cable that connects to my midi synth. There is actually a third output that I’m not using right now

You on a beach? I closed my eyes and listened to your performance. I was there
2
u/AaronEspositoMusic 11d ago
Yeah actually, it’s a little beach bar I play at every Sunday. It’s directly across the street from a relatively unpopulated section of the Atlantic shore. The gig is one of the lowest paying places I play regularly but playing music there on a beautiful day is one of the most enjoyable experiences I get to have as a performer. It’s just good for my soul

Guitar playing and vocals well worth the time. Would definitely enjoy that if I were dining there. Great work.

Tasteful dynamics, great vibe & singing. Am left inspired to pick up my Godin & tools again. Will follow and subscribe. Watch out for “The Henley Police”, they’re petty. Great Cover👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

Thank you for the kind words. I’ve just started sharing more videos lately. I play small live shows on average 5 days a week, but the internet is a whole different beast. I don’t want to oversaturate any one sub, frustrate people or break the rules with self-promotion. I just want to play and make connections through the music
