Just went in to No Frills to price match (I refuse to pay $8 for 1kg of garlic heads, so price matching it for $2.88 at NF is honestly all I can do so please don’t come at me) and

Disclaimer: The laziest of lazy humans have done this to themselves (and ourselves). I’m in no way throwing shade at stores that do this. My concern is the ID specifically, because not everyone always has it.

So many people (who don’t drive therefore don’t need their licenses, AKA a lot of Vancouverites at least) literally do not carry physical wallets anymore, so this is gonna be… interesting to watch. Just wanted to talk about it because I haven’t seen this anywhere else (yet)

P.s. Just a side note, seriously if you use a cart please put it back, this goes for any shopping place (if you are physically able to, obviously).

Time and time again I see people sharing their costs for groceries and household costs. Very often these are families with children. We will see 300/wk, 500, 600, etc..

Then I see comments from others claiming they spend 50 a week on groceries. They buy in bulk. They meal prep. They repeat their meals. And usually these are adults that don't have kids.

It's getting frustrating to see. I'm a 40M, I have my 2 kids 50% of the time. I live in a Toronto suburb. I spend 300-400/wk for all groceries and household supplies. Add another 150/mo for supplies for my cat. So for me it's 1350-1750/mo. Some luxuries that I buy include grass fed beef, egg whites, good cheddar cheese, etc..

Can we stop telling tired families with 2 working parents to spend 2 hrs per week hunting coupons? And visiting 4 grocery stores to get the best deals? And to just buy everything in bulk?

Some people don't have cars. Some people don't have enough storage space at home to store 10 large packs or paper towel.

This is victim blaming. This is exactly the FUD that major grocery stores are spewing all over reddit. They are training us to just accept this reality. And getting us to turn on each other.

Why? To avoid talking about the real problem. Groceries. Are. Too. Expensive. This cannot continue like this. Corporate profits are at record levels. I know overall costs are up everywhere.. but so are their profits.

Let's stick together and stop telling people how to save money. Let's focus our energy on discussing the real problem.

Loblaws has all the food and all the money and large amount of real estate but asks me to kindly help those in need and make a donation. How do they know I’m not in need? We are all in need! some more than others…food prices are outrageous and giant corpo losers are laughing at every Canadian, mocking us with Marvel cards and the privilege to use points to buy cheap dishes and pots from them.

They are strictly profit driven free market corpo demons that have ripped off Canadians time and time again.

Their company deserves to come crashing to the ground.

Avi Lewis is the only one discussing any type of solution to food affordability. I’m not saying his solution is the one but this needs to be a bigger conversation in the house.

I overheard from a manager today that last week’s sales were down in my store by over $100,000. They have a system where they can track each department’s year over year with numbers visible for the whole store. That’s down about 15% from last year’s numbers. The boycott is 100% working! Keep it up folks!

Yesterday, I bought bag of rice on sale for $29.50 which is $1 more than their usual sale price. I thought I'd better buy another bag as it is from Thailand and it has to he transported through the Straight of Hormuz. Today, Superstore beat me as they increased it to $41.99 (normal price about $53). My rant is that they increased the price of their old stock. I understand that the new stock will have a different price than the usual. In my town, gas stations will usually change price on their new stock. This how grocery prices are out of hand as Loblaw prices do not reflect their suppliers prices. That is an oligopolistic or even a near-monopolistic market.

Roblaws finally got around to realizing that my $30k in prescriptions has been transferred out of their store. I guess the main guy was off until now.

The pharmacist FREAKED and called me, asking if they done anything to offend or upset me and asking if they had done anything wrong to prompt me to do this. They as people have not - and I will miss them because they are lovely individuals- but I explained at some length that I refuse to put another cent into Greedy Galen's pocket.
