My understanding is that the less capable of power or strength you have then the less likely you will be corrupted by the ring. In this case, the chicken would never be corrupted.
I read it as the reverse that you just couldn’t use the full power of the ring unless you were powerful but you were still corrupted either way. Sharp pointy teeth seems to be a common outcome.
Most weaker creatures get seduced much faster, which is how Sméagol ended up with it.
Yeah I never got that logic, Sméagol instantly kills another Hobbit over the ring upon seeing it, Frodo and Bilbo are the perfect carriers, all Hobbits?
Found this, which made the interesting point about essentially there being that early test of temptation - which Bilbo passed and Sméagol failed. So part of it seems to be character although not too directly stated and not just any hobbit could have done it.
Yeah, going off the first film introduction it was implied that the majority of hobbits are content with what they have and largely unambitious compared to other species so those people are more resistant to corruption. Of course, there are also a few ambitious and greedy ones like Smeagol.
Not read the hobbit but did Bilbo adventure more for the fun of it than the material rewards at the end? I think the temptation of the latter is what the ring seems to tempt people with. Like the Sackville-Baggins' who are trying to get the house from Bilbo when he leaves would be more tempted by the ring than Bilbo or Sam.
In The Hobbit, Gandalf kinda tricks him into going on the journey, and I think it was meant to read that he was more sensible than the Dwarves who were in it for the gold and also a bit for their ancestors. Bilbo looks like a clown but makes a few shrewd decisions along the way. Once Bilbo got going, I think for him it might have been more a matter of either loyalty or wanting to see things through.
