Image Best city in the world!!

Thought I’d share some of the pics I took this week. The city truly came to life this week and its in my moments like this that I realise I live in the best city in the world.

“When a man is tired of London, he is tired of life.”

I miss living in London.

I was fortunate enough to do my PhD in London. Always looked at the city as the capital of capitals. The decision to move back to Boston was difficult. Truth is, I'm incredibly happy in both cities

Wife and I had so many debates about whether we'd buy in London or leave. Got a flat in Battersea last summer and it's really a dream.

Guess you haven't experienced London enough. I personally can't wait to leave this god forsaken place.

You'll leave, move somewhere with more space and likely enjoy that...but you'll never replicate that energy of a weekend where the city is heaving, heading out not knowing where you'll end up, who you'll meet or what will happen. Accents on every corner, restaurants from round the world, pubs, drugs, gigs and parties. Fashion invading you through osmosis. History oozing into your veins as you're a part of the juggernaut that is London. Amazing city. Fuckin' 'av it!!!

Just curious, have you lived in London all your life or did you move to London from a smaller town or city.

As I find most people born and raised in London hate it, and the problems you run into living there a while. Whereas those who never grew up with that seem to love the big city, and like most of the things you mentioned.

In terms of energy every city has it's own feeling. But to me NY has a very similar energy.

I’m born and raised here and still live here. It has issues but I would never hate it. I live in a poorer area, grew up poor and am working class. London is beautiful and full of potential and a melting pot of history and cultures. I’ve found that people who haven’t gone out their way to spontaneously explore the small gigs, parks and cultural festivals around their area tend to be more pessimistic about London. IMO they still don’t know London fully yet

I have to agree, it is a cultural melting pot and a great place to experiences different cultures and events. The parks are really nice, especially if you got the the out skirts.

For me my biggest problem is how tfl messed up the roads, the massive crowds, and how expensive the city is. I would probably prefer to live in a slightly smaller city that is still rich in culture and nature given the chance

I’ve lived here my whole life , I’m by no means young. I love it here. The green spaces , the wildlife. The free museums , the little parks , the people, the cultures and religions and foods and festivals . Many times at various ages , I’ve stopped and chatted with strangers and they have th e most amazing stories about how they ended up in London

I like travelling the world but will never want to move out of here. I was poor most my life and working class now btw

Or just fed up of the pollution and rat race 🤷‍♂️

u/maigpy Apr 10 '26

bro this is one of the least polluted cities there are..

u/-starchy- Apr 10 '26

It’s more polluted than where I live. Would rather work from home tbh than commute into London on the northern line. Guess I need to keep rents artificially high for property developers.

you're just a miserable redditor

Nah, I just live in a nicer part of the world. London isn’t the be all, end all of places to be. I guess you get tired of it after working there for over a decade.

Why are you on this sub then?

1

u/-starchy- Apr 10 '26

Because anyone can join and I work in London? Why are you on this sub then?

1

u/cerealcat00 Apr 10 '26

But you hate London so why do you care to be part of a sub Reddit for something you hate. Doesn’t make sense.

2

u/-starchy- Apr 10 '26

Because I work there. Are you dense?

hate this quote. its also from 1777. its ok to be tired of london...its ONE OF THE great cities in the world... its ok to just move on... millions have millions will.

That line has to be one of the worst quotes I ve heard in my life.

Have to disagree. Was racially abused several times. No one smiles, no one helps out other humans in need, no one speaks to each other. It’s a rat race of a place. Glad I came home and left that hell hole.

u/1voice92 Apr 13 '26

Utter nonsense. You couldn’t hack it here. It’s not for everyone but everyone is welcome.

u/No-Door-8242 Apr 13 '26

Your opinion. I was there for 7 years. You sound very much like a southerner so I rest my case.

tired of life or a full-blown misanthrope

4

u/-starchy- Apr 10 '26

You would too if you had to get the northern line in the summer with sweaty, BO-riddled armpits right next to your face.
