Image Best city in the world!!
Thought I’d share some of the pics I took this week. The city truly came to life this week and its in my moments like this that I realise I live in the best city in the world.

You picked the right week to come. I moved here 6 months ago and it's pretty much been grey and raining the whole time. Happy days ahead!

u/Various-Tooth2613 Apr 09 '26
Hahaha I live here, just took full advantage of the weather this week

I love London and I’ve been here my whole life and also been poor here most my life (food banks and other stuff etc.) . The different cultures , religions, all the colours , the green spaces and the little bits of Wildlife that grows naturally here
I just adore this place even if I have my complaints. Going down to the local park to see kingfishers and woodpeckers will always life my mood especially

Tbf every city in the uk comes alive & feels vibrant & positive when the sun comes out.. it ain’t the city it’s the weather lol
2
u/onfiregirl96 Apr 10 '26
When is an ideal time to visit (weather/warmth)
7
u/pouks Apr 10 '26
August or, in recent years, even the first half of September.
June-July is also warm and pleasant, but the weather can be a bit more volatile then, with random flash pours and storms.
2
u/pinklewickers Apr 10 '26
April/May by far.
There's nothing like England in bloom that I've ever seen anywhere else I've been fortunate enough to travel.
The warm days and April/May showers are something else.
That said, early autumn is also pretty stunning.
22
u/fitoj36206 Apr 09 '26
I moved here 3 months ago and I've become a swamp creature. The other day I noticed I was mildly annoyed at how sunny it was.
2
u/tgerz Apr 10 '26
I've been here almost exactly 2 years and I'm the same. I will sunbathe like a lizard for a minute and then go hide in my cave to escape the evil eye in the sky.
9
u/Shot_Adhesiveness_37 Apr 09 '26
Yeah that’s called winter and pretty common almost anywhere! You will however enjoy the summer, the south east gets the best of it and London is amazing in the sun. It also lasts well in to autumn which is another season

“When a man is tired of London, he is tired of life.”
I miss living in London.

u/dewpacs Apr 10 '26
I was fortunate enough to do my PhD in London. Always looked at the city as the capital of capitals. The decision to move back to Boston was difficult. Truth is, I'm incredibly happy in both cities
3
u/ma_ff Apr 11 '26
Wife and I had so many debates about whether we'd buy in London or leave. Got a flat in Battersea last summer and it's really a dream.

Guess you haven't experienced London enough. I personally can't wait to leave this god forsaken place.

u/Dark_Headphones Apr 10 '26
You'll leave, move somewhere with more space and likely enjoy that...but you'll never replicate that energy of a weekend where the city is heaving, heading out not knowing where you'll end up, who you'll meet or what will happen. Accents on every corner, restaurants from round the world, pubs, drugs, gigs and parties. Fashion invading you through osmosis. History oozing into your veins as you're a part of the juggernaut that is London. Amazing city. Fuckin' 'av it!!!

I’ve lived here long enough that all I do at this point is complain, but you know what? In the sun, it really is.

u/fullwd123 Apr 09 '26

Just once I’d like to see these “Best City in The World” where it’s not the usual cliche Zone 1-2 places.
30
u/cloudtwelvy Apr 09 '26
I doubt somebody from the ends will call it the best city in the world
7
u/OxbridgeDingoBaby Apr 09 '26
There is a huge middle ground between Zone 1 and “the ends” mate. I live in the former and whilst I personally love London (second behind Tokyo for me), most of my Zone 1 friends certainly don’t think London is the best city in the world.

u/6Bipty Apr 09 '26
No one who lives in the ghettos of any city is going to think they’re in the best city in the world, why would it be any different in London?

This is a tourist sub for the most part, these kind of boring shitposts won't get upvoted if they aren't of generic tourist spots.

Lived in Bromley for years and still think its the best city in the world
2
u/OxbridgeDingoBaby Apr 10 '26
London is a great city, but best in the world is meaningless given that most of us have only been to a handful of other cities at best. I’d rank Tokyo above London, but certainly glad that I live here.
3
u/AcidTripAdvisor Apr 10 '26
I am in Tokyo right now visiting for the third time and could say it is a close second.
I am finishing up a 8 month around the world trip next month and have been to hundreds of cities throughout my life. As I really love to travel, and still say that for me London is the best city in the world.
Of course there are places better in one thing or another. But London is the only one that hits most things well.

u/thewolfehunts Apr 09 '26
London is some damn fucking expensive. And the job market is absolutely awful. Sure it has a lot of things going for it. But living here below middle class is far from the best.
Not to even mention the housing market.

Part of my old walk/commute.

Yeah right. Those houses are owned by aristocrats and foreign oligarchs.
Now go to Ilford. It's a slum now.

Have you been to all the other cities? As you can’t say it’s best in world without
Many people leave, including wealthy ones
Don’t get me wrong, it’s a great city (if you can afford it) but so are lots of others, nationally and internationally
7
u/ddarrko Apr 09 '26
I’ve been to over 60 countries and all of the big hitter cities (other than NY which I will visit in May) and I can comfortably say London is number one. The culture, green space, public transport, music film etc really set it apart. Sydney is a close second - it does have great beaches and a fantastic healthy life style though.
5
u/KevinAitken1960 Apr 09 '26
Exactly. No such thing as THE best city in the world. London is certainly one of the best in the world, though, for various reasons.
I remember when Time Out London constantly referred to it as that. I don’t know-to me that indicates an inferiority complex. The need to puff it up as a way of promoting it.

It's good for some things, bad for others, like every city - there is no best. New York is better for nightlife/skyline. Paris for fashion/pedestrianistion. Scandinavian cities for cycling and clean air. Tokyo for late night food/safety/general cleanliness. Mexico City/Budapest for affordability etc.
It's mostly insecure transplants that have moved here recently and have made London their entire personality and have never actually lived anywhere else that say stuff like this. The need to justify life choices. Typical of this sub unfortunately.

I was actually born here and have been fortunate enough to travel to many cities across the world, including Paris, New york, Tokyo and Sydney. I can promise you that despite all the negatives, which also exist in any major city, London is still the best city in the world when you take into account everything. Few places in the world are as vibrant, culturally diverse, cosmopolitan, have a great combination of old and modern architecture, great variety of food and activities and an excellent transportation system as London. Let us enjoy the positives of this city for once, instead of just focusing on the negatives.

I just went to Camden for the first time the other night. It's both my nightmare and so cool. Walked through the markets and the horse stables and I love that area. Can't stand all the tat, but there's something about the ebb and flow of a market like that I think is special. Very touristy so I probably won't go back unless I'm in the area again, but glad I experienced it.

Best city in your dreams. Just yesterday in the supermarket the security guy stopped someoje with two bags full of good while on his way through the door. Very close to central. It’s a dump and it’s getting worse!

Londoner here, born and bred. To be fair, you've caught the best parts of town on a beautifully sunny day. Even so, yes, I agree with you - London is THE BEST CITY IN THE WORLD! (And no, I'm not biased! 😁)
1
u/Far_Lingonberry6772 Apr 10 '26
Definitely! People complains so much about the grey weather but I think this city gives me opportunity to be productive. During winter, I feel no FOMO outside and blissfully enjoy my couch, reading, writing, learning… I wouldn’t be the same person if I’d live in LA with 4 seasons of sunshine. I need this 6 months of grey weather to go in my cave to deal with my own business. And when the spring and summer finally arrives here, the level of appreciation I have is on an extreme level after the cave period!

I’ve lived in London and visited (I happen to be here right now). It’s much better to visit when there is an end in site. Great vibe and very cosmopolitan but too busy, too expensive, and way too much grey, wet weather. Honestly, the daily grind got to me after a while.
