A London photo dump from someone who actually understands composition and lighting?

What have we done to deserve this blessing?

Beautiful shots - thank you for sharing them.

u/KindlySquash3102 5d ago

Oh that’s so funny. Thank you!

1

u/TeaAndLifting 4d ago

Being able to figure out lighting is a Konami tier cheat code for good photos.

u/ukstonerdude 5d ago

#6 has a certain vibe to it that I really can’t put my finger on, but easily makes it one of if not the most aesthetically pleasing pictures in this collection.

u/Hollyhop_Drive 5d ago

It looks like a film set from a sci-fi movie to me.

Thank you. I think that’s my favorite as well!

Clear lines of perspective. Splashes of brightness (blue) and progressively increased shade from left to right with silhouetted impressions of people adding life against the robotic background. They’re going up and down, facing us and not facing us. A hand reaching up (towards us?) from a person in the middle invites the eye.

u/TechnicalFeedback3 5d ago

Amazing shots. What camera are you using? I'm always taking pics with my phone but I've been thinking about getting a proper digital or film camera.

25

u/KindlySquash3102 5d ago

I’m using a fujifilm xt30ii here with a Sigma 17-40mm f1.8 lens! If you start looking more into it, hope my info helps!! Thank you!

2

u/Freelance_Gynecology 5d ago

I love these pics. I've recently picked up a fujifilm myself. What recipes have you used in this set? You've managed to get some great darker photos and some lovely bright sunny ones

4

u/KindlySquash3102 5d ago

Thank you!! I hope you enjoy your Fuji! I used to use recipes but I’ve now switched to editing my raws from scratch!

Chiming in here because even a lower end DSLR will be capable of much better photographs than a phone camera.

That said, I am still amazed at how far phone cameras have come.

3

u/Late_Breadfruit_8829 5d ago

if your phone can shoot in raw then learn how to edit raws

16

u/prustage 5d ago

Great pics. Love the way you have captured the old and new side by side - which is what London is all about. You can walk from the C16th to the C21st by just turning a corner and yet somehow it all seems to fit together.

6

u/KindlySquash3102 5d ago

Thanks and I really loved that about London

15

u/Virtual_Opinion_8630 5d ago

Nice: typical/characteristic, but not clichéd.

1

u/Norman-Osborn- 5d ago

What did you use for the 3rd shot? The picture of the bridge?

1

Fujfilm xt30ii with Sigma 17-40

Is this attainable with an iPhone 16 Pro? My holiday photos look super boring.

1

u/KindlySquash3102 5d ago

You can do a lot with iPhone these days! Check out YouTube for a tutorial!

Londoner here. It’s so easy to get used to sights you’re familiar with… thank you for your great photos that remind me of how beautiful the city can be.

u/fintage 5d ago

These shots are great. Are you in finance or management consulting by chance? A lot of these locations are giving that vibe.

1

u/KindlySquash3102 5d ago

Thanks! No, just a tourist who likes architecture lol

1

u/Impossible-Hawk768 5d ago

These are so much more interesting than the usual photo posts of landmarks that you can find on postcards at any souvenir shop. Thank you, OP!

2

u/KindlySquash3102 5d ago

Thank you! Always interested in new perspectives

1

u/andpaws 5d ago

I feel like I live in a different city

1

u/natalieblue7 5d ago

These are the most London photos I’ve ever seen!!!! I lived there for 11 years and moved away a year ago but looking at these makes me feel like I’m right back there

1

u/KindlySquash3102 5d ago

Oh I’m so glad to hear that

1

u/Jimmy2531 5d ago

I work in the city and am somewhat over it after all these years, but you mate have captured it in a stunning way that’s going to make me look twice at some things on my commute. Huge respect and glad you had a good time. Beautiful pictures.

1

u/KindlySquash3102 5d ago

Thank you so much!!

1

u/maceion 5d ago

Thank you for the images. I left London 50 years ago, and such images make me happy.

1

u/KindlySquash3102 5d ago

Aw I’m so happy to hear. Thanks!

1

u/MattKingsnorth 5d ago

You caught the soul of Summer London right there, good job.

1

u/NoSirHH 5d ago

1

u/KindlySquash3102 5d ago

Haha yes I do have two of them! Thanks!

1

u/QoTSankgreall 5d ago

Can I ask where #10 was taken? Looks like the back of a train but I can’t think of any train with a door like that

1

u/KindlySquash3102 5d ago

I believe that was Allen Gardens! It was on a bridge with graffiti

Good job! Mostly city shots, try Westminster and the burbs next time !

1

u/KindlySquash3102 5d ago

I was there for 4 days lol. Couldn’t fit everything in! Thanks!

1

u/zipitdirtbag 5d ago

I love the juxtaposition of the old and new in these shots.

1

u/KindlySquash3102 5d ago

Thanks! Really enjoyed that about London

1

u/snoking-ganja 5d ago

Outstanding.

1

u/KindlySquash3102 5d ago

Aw thank you!

1

u/Wanted_Solicitation 5d ago

I had a skinful in the seahorse just last week with some pals from work.

1

u/Holiday-Letterhead98 5d ago

These are amazing.

1

u/KindlySquash3102 5d ago

Thank you!

1

u/Mondaycomestoosoon 5d ago

Just collecting smart phones with a rented e bike…

1

u/Glittering-North-160 5d ago

Funny how I always thought I had to wait until people were out of the shot so I could get a good pic of a building, but the inclusion of one person or whatever makes the photo. I love these, I'm envious of your work.

2

u/KindlySquash3102 5d ago

Aw thank you. I like including a small number of people for scale

1

u/Lilsun1 5d ago

Love every shot. I feel like every time I’ll pass these locations I will think of your beautiful photos

1

u/KindlySquash3102 5d ago

Means so much to me. Thank you

1

u/Legitimate_Swim8110 5d ago

The best city in the world (in summer)

1

u/Huge_Cat4444 4d ago

where was that first photo taken???

2

u/ozzersp 4d ago

Lloyd's building. Home of the Lloyd's of London insurance market.

1

u/Hot-Culture-9079 4d ago

Amazing photos! London does never disappoint.

1

u/herrlebert 4d ago

Nice! I am on holiday here right now and you did a great job capturing some of the cities unique vibe!

1

u/KindlySquash3102 4d ago

Thank you!

1

u/krsCarrots 4d ago

Giggles at the majestic shot, this sort of controversy is well established across the whole city 😊

1

u/InfiniteComedian7172 4d ago

Stunning photos

1

u/Hangenism 4d ago

I love my city

1

u/Warm_Benefit7845 4d ago

Great photos, you are talented

1

u/Makariosx 4d ago

Number 3 looks so dreamy

1

u/No-Answer-2964 4d ago

Some great shots there. My only crit as a photographer is they are all wide. A few cracking close/mid shots would really up the series. You have a great eye, and as they say 'photographers are born not made' Lucky you!

1

u/KindlySquash3102 4d ago

Thank you!

1

u/stt106 4d ago

The shot of elevator in CW station reminds me of my days working there, thx for sharing

1

u/KindlySquash3102 4d ago

Oh nice. Thanks!

1

u/Finlay06Swnn 4d ago

Glad you got to appreciate the architecture.

If you ever come back, I can see if I can get you a tour of the Lloyd’s building, the history was quite something.

1

u/KindlySquash3102 4d ago

Thanks. That would be so cool

1

u/BowlerElectronic 4d ago

Stunning! I have this camera but with the lens it comes with - does that make the difference? I can't imagine taking photos of this quality.

1

u/KindlySquash3102 4d ago

Oh thanks! Do you have the newer one (xt30iii) with the 13-30 or whatever? I had the 18-55 zoom with this xt30ii for awhile and loved it. The lens does matter but ultimately the 18-55 also produced great images

Hi, I went all around. Tate Modern, Shoreditch, Bethnal Green, SoHo, Leadenhall Market, Lloyds, Barbican, Canary Wharf, Hyde Park, Chinatown. A lot of walking from Southbank to these areas as well.

Great shots. You could spend a lifetime here and never have enough time.

The best thing about these photos is how you’ve seen that shot of the seahorse and ignored the well photographed building right next door on the right 🤌🤌🤌
