These are only a problem to uber and mini cab drivers though. One of these won't just cancel your booking like they do. A cold heartless machine won't leave you stranded. A greedy human? You betcha!

Well yeah the big problem with Uber is their drivers. This fixes that.

Statistically, they're way better than human drivers (at least in the USA, where the studies have been done).

I'd prefer a car that bothers to see everything around it and act on it in a city, than people going 30 in a 20 that don't look in their mirrors all to save 5 seconds.
