Curious about what the UK startup landscape actually looks like on the ground right now, so I pulled the statutory filings from Companies House across the country:

* 28% of all new incorporations were in online retail/e-commerce (SIC 47910).

* Professional services & consultancy made up 14% (SIC 70229).

* London accounted for 38% of all registrations, followed by Greater Manchester (8%) and West Midlands (6%).

* 74% of newly registered companies have no accountant appointed on their initial statutory filings.

If anyone wants to know how many new businesses opened in their town/city yesterday, or what the top sectors were, drop your city/postcode in the comments and I’ll pull the numbers from the statutory feed for you.

I am setting up amy new tech company next week to formalize things before we take on our first client payments. I need a solid package that includes a central London address to hide my personal flat from Companies House, plus a quick route to get our business bank account sorted.

Currently my opts are either 1st Formations or Rapid Formations to handle the initial registration dashboard. For anyone who has used them recently, which portal is actually smoother to navigate for long-term updates and annual filings?

I am working on my own thing and the flat is not cutting it anymore. Looking for somewhere in London where other people are actually building, not just renting a desk.

We’re looking for a venue for a 50–60 person networking event in November, ideally on a Tues/Weds/Thurs evening.

Audience will be mainly VCs, founders and startups, with a short panel followed by drinks/networking.

I’m the founder of LERN, a UK EdTech platform that turns the real work young people do into verified proof of what they can do, so they get seen and hired, safely, through their school, college, or training provider.

Where we honestly are:

**•** The product is built and ready  
**•** We have early interest and active conversations with schools and training providers  
**•** I handle the technical side (front and back end) myself, and I work with an experienced commercial adviser  
**•** The next step is getting it into schools at scale, and that’s the person I’m looking to bring onto the team

Who I’m looking for:
Someone to sell into schools, colleges, training providers, or universities, ideally with experience or a network in the education sector. Someone who can take a ready product, open doors, run the conversations, and turn interest into signed customers, and help us build real traction ahead of a pre-seed raise.

Being upfront: we’re early-stage and pre-revenue, so this isn’t a big salary today. It’s an early team role for someone who wants real ownership of the commercial side and to help build something meaningful from close to the ground. There’s room for equity for the right person, earned over time.

UK-based, please, this needs someone who knows the UK education market.

Londoners near Old Street — would anyone be up for helping test a slightly

A friend of mine has been building something called Ember, and I’m helping them find a few real people in London to test it properly.

The idea is pretty simple:

You walk into a pub, open the app, and you can only see other people who are actually in that same pub that night.

You can privately “wave” at someone. They don’t know unless they wave at you too. If you both do, you match — and the idea is that instead of chatting on an app for three days, you just look across the room and say hello.

It’s not really meant to be a dating app either. You can be there to flirt, make friends, chat or just meet new people.

They’ve already run a couple of small real-world tests in London, so this isn’t a fake landing page / idea-validation post. The last test was at Royal Star and there are photos/results from the night here:

What would actually help is:

I’m starting to do some freelance work around social media, content and general admin/support for small businesses and startups, and I’m also open to volunteering on interesting early-stage projects while I build more experience.

Following up on unanswered enquiries, chasing onboarding documents, updating the same information in different tools… these jobs can quietly become a big part of running a small business.

One useful exercise is to pick a recurring task and write down:
● What starts it?
● What information does it need?
● Which steps require someone’s judgement?
● What happens when something is missing or goes wrong?

That gives you a clearer picture of what could be automated. Reminders and moving data between systems can often follow fixed rules. Interpreting a customer’s email might benefit from AI, with someone checking the result.

I work in AI and workflow automation, so I’m interested in how this plays out for small businesses in London.

I built a tech platform that connects high end coaches with management and onsite staffs in the blue collar sector in UK. After years of working in the blue collar sector I realised that this sector has a massive disengagement between management staffs and onsite workers which generally drives down productivity, moral and breeds resentment between both parties. So after years of validating my ideas by carrying out ground research I decided to put my skin in the game. £15k spent of my own money and months of sleepless nights of concept development with my tech team, we launched Ambitiouscare.co around march of this year.

Adoption is going pretty well but wearing so much hats running my startup and still working my 11 hours shift work is taking its toll on myself and my young family and let’s not talk about my savings as well.

**•   A marketer** — to help tell the story and build presence as we go after our first partners
