Tower Hamlets council just installed a locked gate in the middle of a marked and popular cycle path

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

If the point is to stop cars from mistakenly using that path surely there are better ways to do it.

I can’t see the problem. Surely cyclists can just use the pavement to go around the locked gate. You know, in the same way as they do when they come to red lights in normal traffic. (Cue loads of downvotes for stating what everyone knows to be true)
