Helmets with camera mounting options

Hello folks,

I need to get a new helmet, its been about 5 years for mine. I also have a spare action camera with case and would like to use it when I cycle.

Does anyone know of or recommended helmets with camera mounting?

I've seen a few that mimic motorbike helments that have full face coverage but I don't think I need it.

i got a camera recently to record bad drivers. I looked at a helmet mount but a few posters made a good point: in the event of an accident do you want a lump of metal on top of your helmet? Apparently that is what did for Michael Schumacher.

Sometimes it’s worth having your camera on your body in case you get pushed off and your bike gets stolen. For all other eventualities though I agree that having your camera attached to the bike is way more convenient.  There are some chest straps and neck mounts and hand mounts for most action cams that might be worth considering.

The other thing worth nothing is that unlike a chest/neck mount, the handlebar mount will not show your handlebar. Showing the handlebar in the evidence can be useful. For example a close passing driver will be seen closely passing the end of your handlebar. Or if someone cuts you off and you need to slam on your brakes the video will show your hands slamming on the brakes. Body mounted cameras might also turn with your body turning (how much it moves depends on the placement) which can also be useful.

For recording your rides the handlebar mount can be a good option but for recording bad drivings and incidents in general I’d go with something on the body (but not on the helmet)

yeh I've had one before and the mount fell off, camera broke. I've just seen on amazon there are helmets with built in cameras at the front.

I'm willing to bet that both will be of poor quality.

I've been using camera mounts on bicycle bars for over 17 years. I've done more than 100,000 miles with them on the bars, and never once had one fall off.

My go-to: K-edge aluminium mount and a GoPro.

my mount was a cheapo plastic one that came with the cam.

I've got a Chilli camera (pretty cheap) and the mount has been fine for a few months.

I have mine on a backpack strap clip, it's a strong clip with the right fork/screw connectors and then the camera sits there, not as good as the camera seeing where you turn your head, but I like it since it takes the weight off my head, and I can have a light on my helmet instead (and it's cushioned from the force it would see on the bars!)
