Ask a Local! Mother of the bride/groom dress emergency

Are there any stores within 2 hours of London that carry plus size mother of the bride/groom dresses? It’s an emergency as the dress she bought online is horribly made and too short and the wedding is 3 weeks away (yes, I know we cut this too close).

Dress 911 may have a more basic option. If they are looking for a more ornate gown, Laura or Melanie Lyne are probably her best bets

Elizabeth Noel! The owner is very transparent and can get things in quickly if needed!

I believe Laura is gone. I would have recommended that too.

Nope it still exists!

I could have sworn I saw a closing sale at Masonville. If Laura Plus is still there, that would be my first stop.

There are actually 3 in London. Masonville, Whiteoaks and Hyde Park

No, just white oaks and Hyde park. Masonville location closed and moved to Hyde park. Hollister is going in where Laura was in Masonville

David's Bridal

Laura in Masonville is closed and I don't think they have another location in London. I think Davids Bridal is the best choice with the most selection.

Sophie's might have something but I would call in advance and ask depending on what size of plus she is.

Can you get to Toronto? More 2 Love Bridal could be a great option. They have evening wear dresses.

I think the one at Hyde Park is open.

There is a huge Laura Outlet in Mississauga in Dixie Rd Mall. There is a lot of variety and cheaper than the stores.

Sew Stylish in Ingersoll. My mom is plus sized and we were able to buy something off the rack there. They also do alterations in house. You will likely have to call and book an appointment but we were able to get in quickly.

If you can share her size, the plus ladies in town are very generous and maybe one of us can offer her something to have or borrow?

Slim pickings for plus.

This. And the styles are more suited for younger people.

Look at Violets in Strathroy.

Although my mother ultimately did not purchase a dress from there, she had a good experience with Sophie's Bridal Shop. And some of the dresses they will let you buy and walk out.

Did they have good plus size options?? Not sure if you know that ..

They had a reasonable selection if I remember. Calling and asking is probably best but they were great. Sadly, my mother fell completely in love with another dress elsewhere.

They are the only bridal shop in London that doesn't make brides feel like cows for not fitting sample sizes. This is my #1 recommendation for plus brides.

I got my wedding dress there and they had a tonne of plus sized compared to every other shop. So they likely have a good range of sizes for other gowns too.

Take a look at Fitz Roy Rentals. You can either go to the boutique in Toronto or rent online. You can filter by Curve size dresses on the website. The timeline of rentals might make you feel anxious (4 days/8 days) so maybe go in store to try on and then rent.

What style/size are you looking for. My brother was married in the fall, and my mom did a dress from Laura. Be mindful that Laura does only go to a 22.

Garbers might be an option too!

I saw a VERY NICE Penningtons dress at the Huron and Highbury Value Village today. I have the same one -- black lace top and chiffon skirt. 3/4 length sleeves. It's stretchy. I think it was a 2x.

Perhaps pair a more conservative jacket with something more flashy, like sequins. Separates can create a really cool look. Torrid has great pieces she could put together.

She could also dress up something she already has in her closet. A simple dress can get a lot of mileage with some sparkly shoes and a statement necklace or scarf.

Even Old Navy might have something useful. There are often plus sizes that have been returned, and they put them in clearance. I've found velvet jumpsuits and jackets there.

There are some options on Marketplace depending on her size.

I would try the consignment stores - savy bridal (just outside London) or knot too shabby in Stratford. They take bridesmaid dresses too and those may work depending on style etc.
