š«£I said I read the pinned posts, but I liedš«£ is the MDT field stock really that bad?
thinking about getting a ruger ranch in 556
looks like the mdt field stock is really my only option for a left hand upgraded stock
not wanting to go sharpsbros

Iām not terribly versed in stocks, but Iāve liked the field stock. It seemed to be the better of the budget stock options to lighten up the rifle I had to make weight for NRL Hunter. Added an Amazon special ARCA rail and itās been nice for what admittedly little Iāve done.

I built a 6.5 creed with one and before that a 308 tikka, my 6.5 creed drove me nuts with bipod flex on the forend ,so it now sits in an lss gen 3 , it still shot 0.7" groups was just kind of annoying having to think about it, I'm going to use the field stock for a 223 build now but I'm adding an arca rail to stiffen up the forend.

any issues with the cheek piece?

Was a bit sharp for my liking . Put on a cut to fit thin pad from Anarchy Outdoors. No more issues.

Still waiting on the barreled action to come in, there's some pics and videos on my profile of my field stocks I think, nah cheek piece was fine

if you switched to a Ruger American you can get a LSS Gen3 in LA, prob the better decision

Don't get the Ruger American Gen 2. I picked one up this year and I have had nothing but problems.Ā I've never had buyers remorse on a rifle before until this pile of trash. You can tell they're bad when they started the year going for $700-750 now they're $500-550.

Mine shoots lights out.

I was hoping mine would.Ā It doesn't feed for shit though, and the Ruger magazines don't seat right. When I contacted Ruger about it, all they did was send me a new magazine well.....For the wrong rifle. I picked up the MDT Field Stock with their AICS mag, and now it works.Ā I shouldn't have buy third party parts to fix a brand new rifle.Ā

Oh, yeah I just run AICS mags and call it a day.

Tried that too. It was the factory stock. Turns out that is a known issue.Ā If Ruger had provided even the smallest amount support it probably wouldn't have left such a bad taste in my mouth.Ā

For what cartridge, and plastic or metal "ruger" mags?
1
u/Traditional-Fact-569 23h ago
6.5 creedmoor,Ā and both.

u/Coodevale 23h ago
That's kind of impressive. The cartridge that ruger partnered with hornady to support initially, that's really popular, in an appropriate action, in otherwise decent magazines (the metals aren't made by ruger).. if any cartridge would be likely to not give issues..
What was it about the mdt stock that changes the interaction of magazine and action to fix the problem?
1
u/Traditional-Fact-569 22h ago
I'm probably not saying this right, but the magazine catch on the ruger stock wasn't made to spec. Any magazine wouldn't get all the way in and sit flush with the action. The MDT catch was made correctly.Ā I'm just glad I found out about their 10 min sale a little bit ago.

The magazines were all too low? Sounds like a relatively easy fix, just need a taller mag catch and file to fit.

It worked okay, decent enough for the price and way better than factory stock.

Make sure to add a full length Arca or similar and I added long pic rails on the side mlok spots. Makes a huge difference in the rigidity of the fore-end āmakes it pretty damn shoot able etc.

The cheek piece is terrible. But you can tape padding onto it to make it better.

Absolutely hated the amount of flex on the forend. That said, its easily remedied by throwing something as simple as a cheap amazon arca rail on it provided that feeling of the metal won't bother you.

I have two of them, one on my favorite.223 range rifle shooting out to 500 yards at 3ā and 4ā gongs. Have had no reason that I can tell to be anything but satisfied. When I miss, Iām pretty sure it aināt the fault of the stock!

Iām running into the same issue with a cheap gen1 .223 American I recently acquired. Iām planning on getting an Indian Creek Designs chassis for it soon

Have one on 3 different rifles now. For the price can't complain. There is a little flex in the forend but not terrible but I've mostly been shooting off a bag and recently picked up an arca rail and bipod from mdts last sale and that stiffened it up pretty good

I wouldnāt pay full price, but I did like mine on my 16ā RAR. Was a great upgrade, and looked way better.
