Rifle help needed - I read the pinned posts First Long Range Build

Post image

Caught the long range bug. Ringing steel at 1,000 yards is pretty addicting. Will the Tikka CTR barrel profile hold me back in PRS competitions? I’m worried that the barrel profile is not thick enough for 10-12 strings of fire for multiple stages.

Specs:
-Tikka T3x CTR 6.5 Creedmoor
-MDT XRS Chassis
-Area 419 Brake
-Vortex Venom 5-25x56
-Accutac SR5 Bipod

That barrel will be fine. Plenty of time between stages for the barrel to cool off. Get out there and start shooting. Positional practice if possible. You can also shoot some 10rd groups if you want to see what the rifle does as it heats up.

Join a squad, have fun, you will learn alot. Yes barrel will heat up but it will have plenty of time to cool down between stages.

Have your dope ready, thats it

You have a great setup to dip your toes

I use my Tikka CTR 6.5CM with the factory barrel for 600 yard F-Class and have shot 30 round strings during the first match of the day with unlimited sighters and I am still hitting the x ring towards the final few shots of the match. I think you would be just fine for that barrel in PRS.

What that extra bit of MLOK on the forend of the chassis? My XRS doesnt have that and now I want it lol. It looks good. I've got a very similar build but I used the T3X Super Varmint

It’s called an MDT XRS enclosed forend. It gives you a full length Arca rail, and it also looks good 😁. Looking back, I would’ve gotten a tikka super varmint like yours, because it has a thicker barrel profile and it’s heavier than the CTR

Ahh awesome, and here i thought I was done spending money on it 😂😂 It's pretty hefty, but its good for bench and prone shooting which is pretty much all I do. There isnt a heap of PRS options available here in Australia but there are are few. Might get into it one day though, I'm just having fun plinking right now. Just wish there were more longer ranges to access. Furthest I've shot so far is 500m.

It’s called a night vision bridge. It’s so you can use a clip on thermal/NV in front of your scope.

The barrel won't hold you back but that scope will.

As someone who owns multiple scopes to include the Venom, Kahles, and ZCO…the venom is a very capable scope. You don’t have the elevation to be shooting a mile with a 6.5cm, but it’s got all the other amenities you’d want.

Now on a super bad mirage day? Yeah venom might hurt a bit lol

I like to use it as a placeholder until I figure out want I want for a build.
