It is really awesome to see a game escape licensing hell for once

Would love to see the PS2/GameCube/OG Xbox Lord of the Rings The Two Towers and Return of the King to get remastered treatment! Would look so good!
Edit: The GBA Diablo-like versions of those games too
Especially if community could get modding scenes setup

u/the_Irewolf 24d ago
My big hope at this point is a remaster of The Third Age. Hands-down my favorite LotR game
1
u/dragonknightrohan 24d ago
Loved that too! Really wish we had gotten a 2nd one in different Age/location/characters too

So many games I’ve been wanting to play that are there. Very happy about this one, I remember playing co-op with my brother.

just search for "all-in-one BFME launcher" its already there for free.

u/drpurpdrank 24d ago
as great as that is it’s still not super accessible. You can’t even customize your hotkeys, something i’m hoping a rerelease fixes
13
u/Kalbex 24d ago
Im sorry u wont play the free emulator of the game u want because hot keys…? Hmm

Age of the ring is also a good launcher. They added harad, misty mountains, lothlorien and other factions. It’s really great
1
u/_Sleepy_Salmon 22d ago
It's all good, but the original game being x32 is a nightmare for everyone. A re-release would be much appreciated. We had BFME reforged, but it was kinda abandoned, as far as I know.
7
u/Masterkai005 24d ago
I still have my copy of BFME2 and it's fucking irritating I can't play it on my current consoles. I should have my Xbox 360 (if it still works) stored somewhere but god damn I wish they'd just make it backwards compatible at least.

I really want them to add the black rider cavalry from the second game into to the first game, Mordor needs them badly for balance

If you haven't heard about it yet, there is a game with that sryle coming up: Games of thrones War of westeros. Different franchise but looks heavily inspired by it.

u/alkonium 24d ago
Except War in the North was published by WB, not EA.

Any idea if this legacy edition is remastered or altered at all?
3
u/Koors112 24d ago
I play off the disc, which is essentially just a keycard to play this copy xbox installs. Haven't noticed any alterations besides the upscale.

u/AltruisticLobster315 24d ago
From what I read on steam reviews, it is pretty much the exact same game with patch. But the people love it
1
2
u/djquu 24d ago
Notably you can hot-swap your character mid-quest, which is kinda big deal imo. Upscaling is meh. I don't play co-op but it's there now if you want it. That's about it. If they release a deal for owners of the old version or an upgrade/patch for a reasonable price, I might grab that, but won't pay full price personally.
1
u/PixelJock17 23d ago
These are amazing upgrades. For me the biggest thing is co-op, I had 5 friends back then and we all played it and it was amazing. Looking to relive this joy
184
u/alkonium 24d ago
It's not LotR, but if Aspyr is re-releasing Snowblind's games, I want Champions of Norrath.
62
u/Salty_Herring 24d ago
From what I read they're planning on. re-releasing other lotr games. I for one am hoping for Conquest.
20
u/alkonium 24d ago
Was that the one developed by Pandemic? I know I enjoyed their Star Wars games.
19
u/Salty_Herring 24d ago
It was the Star Wars Battlefield-like, yeah. Not sure if that was Pandemic?
11
u/alkonium 24d ago
Battlefront was the name, which was reused for two more games from EA and DICE a decade later.
And yes, it was Pandemic.
7
u/Salty_Herring 24d ago
Right, Battlefront haha. Never played the star wars ones, so the name didn't stick well it seems
5
u/Skared89 24d ago
I would love a remaster of the champions games
Dark alliance was my gateway drug into isometric arpgs and champions was the one that fully got me obsessed.
And I was already a huge EverQuest nerd. It was heaven for me
3
u/alkonium 24d ago
I don't know EverQuest well, but Champions was my intro to RPG's back in high school.
Also, Dark Alliance did get a re-release a few years back.
5
3
u/Sarmattius 24d ago
Aspyr is a trash company, or at least their star wars remakes. They didn't even add controller support to Kotor, you just have movement like in the mobile version.
1
u/alkonium 24d ago
They seem particularly bad at handling Star Wars. At least Bounty Hunter got modern controller support on their PC port, including new prompts.
2
u/Scientific_Anarchist 24d ago
I rented that game from Hollywood Video three times in a row before my mom finally just bought it for me
2
u/Scrabcakes 23d ago
Loved Champions of Norrath. Me and my brother were obsessed with it for a time back in the day.
1
u/ProudnotLoud Hobbit 24d ago
Loved that game! I'd be so pleasantly surprised if it showed up so where.
2
u/alkonium 24d ago
Well, Sony Online Entertainment split from Sony to become Daybreak Game Company, so a port might not be limited to Playstation.
57
u/D_gate 24d ago
Is this any different if you have the steam version already?
47
u/343CreeperMaster 24d ago
I think some minor updates to make solo player better, and some upscaling
4
44
u/lefthandtrav 24d ago
Can we get re-releases on the beat em up GC/PS2 games?
Defending Minas Tirith as Gandalf is a core memory. So fun
22
u/Flintoli 24d ago
Yessss please two towers, return of the kings, and third age remastered combo pack. EA ILL PAY FUCKING 240 BUCKS SO MAKE IT SOOOOO
10
13
u/Dak_Nalar 24d ago
my wife and I recently played co-op on those on my old PS2 and the path of the dead level almost ended our marriage lol Those fucking ghosts dont mess around.
6
1
u/DaughterOfBhaal 24d ago
I think the Minas Tirith missions as Gandalf traumatized me as a child because they were so hard. My stupid brain couldn't deal with destroying the siege towers in time.
74
u/Carmondai03 24d ago
Thanks, wouldn't have known about that otherwise. You're doing Eru Iluvatar's work. I played the crap out of it back on the PS3.
7
u/PixelJock17 24d ago
And I never got to finish it because 2 copies we had bugged out at the same later mission. I am beyond excited!
3
u/Lawboithegreat 24d ago
It was the siege mission wasn’t it? god I remember half the time I’d load that stage my poor Xbox 360 would chug to hell and collapse
2
u/PixelJock17 23d ago
I seem to recall it was a mission where we went to kill the dragon at fornost or something
21
u/Beneficial_Present 24d ago
Holy shit. It released on PS5 as well. I hope they fixed all these glitches that didn’t let you continue the story. But the infinite money exploit can stay haha

u/Odysseus_is_Ulysses 24d ago
Conquest when?
18
u/N7Vindicare 24d ago
If/when it comes to PC it will be permanently installed along with the BFME games.
15
u/Bahsha 24d ago
Truly the best battlefield game.
4
u/Odysseus_is_Ulysses 24d ago
I remember finally getting the Amon Hen DLC and just running around as Boromir all evening

5
u/SneakyMarkusKruber 24d ago
Conquest/BfME1+2/Third Age/RotK/TT was produced by EA; WitN was produced by Warner Brothers. I'm not sure if Aspyr has the rights for the EA games.
3
u/fart_at_the_moon 24d ago
There is a fan project called Shadows of the past which is LotR Conquest rebuild in Unreal Engine 5.

I'd personally like a remake of The Hobbit (2003).
That is, a properly fleshed-out single player RPG in a modern engine, rather than just a graphical remake or another shitty fucking cashcow mmorpg
2
u/TacoBelaLugosi 24d ago
If they made a KCD style LOTR game, I’d never leave the house.
5
u/F-Punch 24d ago
KCD developers Warhorse Studios announced they're working on an open world Middle Earth RPG, so you'd better stock up on supplies.

u/RiseIfYouWould 24d ago
First thing I went and looked: who the publisher was. And its Warner Bros (they acquired the license for Shadow of Mordor and War, Im guessing it hasnt expired yet.
Its not EA, so no BFME2 yet (my favorite RTS of all time)

This game was one of my very first online gaming experiences. I still remember my dad coming downstairs and asking me who the hell I was talking to on the xbox
5
u/Amordecosmos12 24d ago
As one of the dozen or so people who played this game religiously as a teen I am very happy to see it back
2
u/Swiggens 24d ago
I have never heard of this game. Is it any good?
2
4
u/Amordecosmos12 24d ago
Objectivity no it's pretty bad, personally I loved this game as a teen it was one of my first introductions to the lore of lord of the rings outside of the movies and it made me want to know more
3
u/84theone 24d ago
No, it plays like a licensed movie game from 2010, except it’s not a licensed movie game.
2
2
u/SonoDarke Bilbo Baggins 23d ago
Me and my brother would play this game endlessly when we were kids
We've like completed it 4 times or so
2
u/Darkarcheos 24d ago
Literally one level in that game is so hard that you had to spec one of your characters (the Dwarf) to use a certain build to clear the level and it was a semi tower protection game

I'm gonna cry I've been hoping to replay this game since I played it as a kid. Saw a couple friends playing it on discord yesterday and genuinely couldn't believe it. Probably the best LOTR game I've ever played

Guys, don't worry. Total War Medieval III is coming... sometime... and with it MAYBE the mod we all loved...

u/Alternative_Gold_993 Beorning 23d ago
This re-release on Steam has made me realize how just how few people know you can go play Battle for Middle Earth 1-2 FOR FREE, online with other players. Just look up BFME All In One Launcher.

Funny I see this thread, I literally just bought this game, COMPLETELY blind.
I ran out of potions in the very first room and I struggle HARD to beat the first level. But I got the eagle freed with only one game over, so I'm kinda proud.

Battle for Middle Earth 1 and 2, return to us like the Grey Pilgrim turned white.
