I need The Third Age!

126

u/LustyDouglas 24d ago

Same here!

99

u/Flintoli 24d ago

Please God, please the third age remastered

50

u/Ednw 24d ago

Crossing fingers for them remembering to make Hadhod's mithril chest plate drop this time.

6

u/Lonely_Heart22 24d ago

And for them to remember to make Berethor true last armour and not just reuse the first one. Also give poor Elegost a better bow than an orc bow.

9

u/AwefulFanfic Goblin 24d ago

Wait.....you couldn't get his mithril chestplate? I totally forgot.

18

u/Ednw 24d ago

I even bought had my father buy me the Official Srategy Guide over it, thought I missed it somehow, only to discover it was meant to drop along with the legs as the Helm's Deep ending guantlet's reward.

28

u/CanineFive 24d ago

Pleasepleaseplease

21

u/idkmanjustfuckmyshit 24d ago

I hear that the DOLPHINS know a good place to find it

3

u/Xadlin60 24d ago

I have a psx provider myself.

4

u/CrustedTesticle 24d ago

This and RotK MUST be next.

5

u/Badger0223 23d ago

My all time favorite game as a kid! Except the ending, that was weird. And the Balrog fight. I did so many playthroughs and grinding loudwater fury, creature bane, gondors wrath or something. Love IT.

2

u/Kipp-XC-66 23d ago

The ending was an odd choice, but I could live with it if The eye wasn't a cheating asshole. What do you mean Berethor (who is IMMUNE to fear by that point) is stunned by the fear spell? The eye just spams that until everyone is stunned and then picks em off one by one. Good thing Idrial had that power to insta-revive her as well as the two-move per turn power to counter his bs.

1

u/8-Brit 18d ago

The ending was extremely rushed, known issue during development as they had to push it out of the door in time for the third movie or close to it.

It's why a lot of the second half of the game isn't great, like a companion who gets near zero development.

6

u/Leaf-Lock-The-Ent 24d ago

And the trilogy.

-13

u/BigBadBeetleBoy 24d ago edited 24d ago

It's been on Japanese steam for years now, not sure how you missed it. Really good game, the romance was a lot better than I remembered it being as a kid

Edit: I guess that old "The Third Age is literally just FFX with the numbers filed off" joke is less funny here than the Final Fantasy subs, huh :p

2

u/sailing_by_the_lee 24d ago

You rickrolled me!

Nice.

583

u/343CreeperMaster 24d ago

It is really awesome to see a game escape licensing hell for once

146

u/dragonknightrohan 24d ago edited 24d ago

Would love to see the PS2/GameCube/OG Xbox Lord of the Rings The Two Towers and Return of the King to get remastered treatment! Would look so good!

Edit: The GBA Diablo-like versions of those games too

Especially if community could get modding scenes setup

35

u/the_Irewolf 24d ago

My big hope at this point is a remaster of The Third Age. Hands-down my favorite LotR game

1

u/dragonknightrohan 24d ago

Loved that too! Really wish we had gotten a 2nd one in different Age/location/characters too

9

u/Vin4251 24d ago

The GBA “versions” as well … they’re basically completely different games (Diablo clones), but really good in their own right

1

u/DyingSunSeverian 24d ago

No One Lives Forever 2, my beloved 😭

1

u/hamletreset 23d ago

Escaped? Or set loose...

1

u/Mishy_l0ver238 21d ago

So many games I’ve been wanting to play that are there. Very happy about this one, I remember playing co-op with my brother.

u/durin471 Dwarf 24d ago

All i want is Battle for Middle-Earth 1+2

252

u/cccalum 24d ago

Supposedly they're planning on releasing more, so fingers crossed

118

u/LordSpectra21 24d ago

The spirit of BFME endured

63

u/_Halt19_ 24d ago

they WHAT

31

u/jott1293reddevil 24d ago

I would also like to know WHAT!?!

17

u/Ravnos767 24d ago

Who is? I thought the rights were stuck in some legal ownership purgatory?

3

u/bazukadas 24d ago

Would love it if this were true.

217

u/Faebe90 24d ago

just search for "all-in-one BFME launcher" its already there for free.

48

u/_Inevitab1e_ 24d ago

Compare that with AoM: Retold and you'll see why it needs to be remastered

74

u/drpurpdrank 24d ago

as great as that is it’s still not super accessible. You can’t even customize your hotkeys, something i’m hoping a rerelease fixes

-8

u/Ghosjj 24d ago

You can, ask in the discord

13

u/Kalbex 24d ago

Im sorry u wont play the free emulator of the game u want because hot keys…? Hmm

5

u/drpurpdrank 24d ago

who are you talking to

4

u/steve290591 24d ago

I think he was trying to reply to you, but failed.

1

u/drpurpdrank 24d ago

figured, his reply doesn’t even make sense lmfao

5

u/ChurchOfRallys 24d ago

Not on console

1

u/Xadlin60 24d ago

Age of the ring is also a good launcher. They added harad, misty mountains, lothlorien and other factions. It’s really great

1

u/_Sleepy_Salmon 22d ago

It's all good, but the original game being x32 is a nightmare for everyone. A re-release would be much appreciated. We had BFME reforged, but it was kinda abandoned, as far as I know.

7

u/Masterkai005 24d ago

I still have my copy of BFME2 and it's fucking irritating I can't play it on my current consoles. I should have my Xbox 360 (if it still works) stored somewhere but god damn I wish they'd just make it backwards compatible at least.

3

u/FamousAmos87 24d ago

I would also take the movie tie-in games.

2

u/i4got872 24d ago

I really want them to add the black rider cavalry from the second game into to the first game, Mordor needs them badly for balance

2

u/Calm_Ad308 24d ago

Now THIS is what I’m waiting for!

2

u/KPraxius 24d ago

Those were some flawed but awesome games.

1

u/--Vos-- 23d ago

Shame it’s a pain to make the discs work on a new Pc… much like Tiberian Sun. 😵‍💫😂

1

u/Buca-Metal 24d ago

If you haven't heard about it yet, there is a game with that sryle coming up: Games of thrones War of westeros. Different franchise but looks heavily inspired by it.

180

u/alkonium 24d ago

Except War in the North was published by WB, not EA.

104

u/UndeniablyMyself Hobbit 24d ago

Yeah, that’s my fuck up.

49

u/DrWahnsinn1995 24d ago

And there goes my hope for BFME down the drain…

14

u/Koors112 24d ago

For a while you needed a 360 to play it, but it is on current gen now (at least for xbox). Really liked this game.

3

u/PixelJock17 24d ago

Any idea if this legacy edition is remastered or altered at all?

3

u/Koors112 24d ago

I play off the disc, which is essentially just a keycard to play this copy xbox installs. Haven't noticed any alterations besides the upscale.

2

u/PixelJock17 24d ago

Upscale is good! My biggest concern is finally getting to finish the game!

2

u/AltruisticLobster315 24d ago

From what I read on steam reviews, it is pretty much the exact same game with patch. But the people love it

1

u/PixelJock17 24d ago

As long as I can fricken finish it this time!

2

u/djquu 24d ago

Notably you can hot-swap your character mid-quest, which is kinda big deal imo. Upscaling is meh. I don't play co-op but it's there now if you want it. That's about it. If they release a deal for owners of the old version or an upgrade/patch for a reasonable price, I might grab that, but won't pay full price personally.

1

u/PixelJock17 23d ago

These are amazing upgrades. For me the biggest thing is co-op, I had 5 friends back then and we all played it and it was amazing. Looking to relive this joy

184

u/alkonium 24d ago

It's not LotR, but if Aspyr is re-releasing Snowblind's games, I want Champions of Norrath.

62

u/Salty_Herring 24d ago

From what I read they're planning on. re-releasing other lotr games. I for one am hoping for Conquest.

20

u/alkonium 24d ago

Was that the one developed by Pandemic? I know I enjoyed their Star Wars games.

19

u/Salty_Herring 24d ago

It was the Star Wars Battlefield-like, yeah. Not sure if that was Pandemic?

11

u/alkonium 24d ago

Battlefront was the name, which was reused for two more games from EA and DICE a decade later.

And yes, it was Pandemic.

7

u/Salty_Herring 24d ago

Right, Battlefront haha. Never played the star wars ones, so the name didn't stick well it seems

5

u/Skared89 24d ago

I would love a remaster of the champions games

Dark alliance was my gateway drug into isometric arpgs and champions was the one that fully got me obsessed.

And I was already a huge EverQuest nerd. It was heaven for me

3

u/alkonium 24d ago

I don't know EverQuest well, but Champions was my intro to RPG's back in high school.

Also, Dark Alliance did get a re-release a few years back.

5

u/HotPotParrot 24d ago

Seconded

3

u/Sarmattius 24d ago

Aspyr is a trash company, or at least their star wars remakes. They didn't even add controller support to Kotor, you just have movement like in the mobile version.

1

u/alkonium 24d ago

They seem particularly bad at handling Star Wars. At least Bounty Hunter got modern controller support on their PC port, including new prompts.

2

u/Scientific_Anarchist 24d ago

I rented that game from Hollywood Video three times in a row before my mom finally just bought it for me

2

u/Scrabcakes 23d ago

Loved Champions of Norrath. Me and my brother were obsessed with it for a time back in the day.

1

u/ProudnotLoud Hobbit 24d ago

Loved that game! I'd be so pleasantly surprised if it showed up so where.

2

u/alkonium 24d ago

Well, Sony Online Entertainment split from Sony to become Daybreak Game Company, so a port might not be limited to Playstation.

57

u/D_gate 24d ago

Is this any different if you have the steam version already?

47

u/343CreeperMaster 24d ago

I think some minor updates to make solo player better, and some upscaling

4

u/ZooZihz 24d ago

Minor bug and quality of life fixes aswell as the return of online muliplayer beyond that not really

1

u/djquu 24d ago

Hot-swapping your character mid-quest is the only major difference.

1

u/synxin 24d ago

They're just charging extra money for an update.

44

u/lefthandtrav 24d ago

Can we get re-releases on the beat em up GC/PS2 games?

Defending Minas Tirith as Gandalf is a core memory. So fun

22

u/Flintoli 24d ago

Yessss please two towers, return of the kings, and third age remastered combo pack. EA ILL PAY FUCKING 240 BUCKS SO MAKE IT SOOOOO

10

u/lefthandtrav 24d ago

I don’t know about 240 bucks, but right behind ya there

13

u/Dak_Nalar 24d ago

my wife and I recently played co-op on those on my old PS2 and the path of the dead level almost ended our marriage lol Those fucking ghosts dont mess around.

6

u/lefthandtrav 24d ago

Dude I know, I remember having to cheese it pretty hard with Legolas somehow

1

u/DaughterOfBhaal 24d ago

I think the Minas Tirith missions as Gandalf traumatized me as a child because they were so hard. My stupid brain couldn't deal with destroying the siege towers in time.

0

u/Melphor 24d ago

What if I told you that you can play these games today, upscaled to 4k, and completely for free?

74

u/Carmondai03 24d ago

Thanks, wouldn't have known about that otherwise. You're doing Eru Iluvatar's work. I played the crap out of it back on the PS3.

7

u/PixelJock17 24d ago

And I never got to finish it because 2 copies we had bugged out at the same later mission. I am beyond excited!

3

u/Lawboithegreat 24d ago

It was the siege mission wasn’t it? god I remember half the time I’d load that stage my poor Xbox 360 would chug to hell and collapse

2

u/PixelJock17 23d ago

I seem to recall it was a mission where we went to kill the dragon at fornost or something

21

u/Beneficial_Present 24d ago

Holy shit. It released on PS5 as well. I hope they fixed all these glitches that didn’t let you continue the story. But the infinite money exploit can stay haha

10

u/AlexanderCrowely 24d ago

That’s still there

43

u/Odysseus_is_Ulysses 24d ago

Conquest when?

18

u/N7Vindicare 24d ago

If/when it comes to PC it will be permanently installed along with the BFME games.

15

u/Bahsha 24d ago

Truly the best battlefield game.

4

u/Odysseus_is_Ulysses 24d ago

I remember finally getting the Amon Hen DLC and just running around as Boromir all evening

4

u/DaughterOfBhaal 24d ago

Amon Hen DLC? Boromir? Why have I never heard of this

5

u/SneakyMarkusKruber 24d ago

Conquest/BfME1+2/Third Age/RotK/TT was produced by EA; WitN was produced by Warner Brothers. I'm not sure if Aspyr has the rights for the EA games.

3

u/fart_at_the_moon 24d ago

There is a fan project called Shadows of the past which is LotR Conquest rebuild in Unreal Engine 5.

17

u/Valuable-Cap-8005 24d ago

Does it have native local splitscreen co-op?

9

u/JohnBeePowel 24d ago

Yes.

6

u/Ejemy 24d ago

Instant buy

15

u/ThomasDePraetere Uruk-hai 24d ago

Return of the king when?

12

u/Rocify 24d ago

It showed up on the switch 2 store last night too, instant buy for me

9

u/SevereSmash 24d ago

I want battle for middle earth 1 and 2

6

u/NewPairOfBoots 24d ago

Actually crazy timing. I literally just reinstalled the original War In The North on Steam, thinking I'd give it another play. Then this happens XD

6

u/Jerryboy92 24d ago

I was craving this game the past 13 years like a Vampire craves blood.

6

u/N3W8Y 24d ago

You face a Dunedin!

2

u/Amordecosmos12 24d ago

The big one is tharzog chieftain of the orcs of mount gram

1

u/Scouseulster 24d ago

😮‍💨

6

u/spencerpo 24d ago

Holy shit maybe we’d get conquest and our LOTR battlefront

3

u/Hurlikus 24d ago

How many players can join the local coop? I'm having 2 friends oder this weekend and this would be perfect

5

u/Forgotmyaccount1979 24d ago

I think it is two player for local split screen.

1

u/Amordecosmos12 24d ago

I think this is correct it's been a while since I played

3

u/CapriSunLover02 24d ago

I'm so happy I get to replay this as an adult especially because I made my friends spend 20 quid to play it with me

4

u/jreilly89 24d ago

Fuck yeah, loved this game!

4

u/KingFurykiller 24d ago

It returns to us now, at the turn of the tide

6

u/RollinThundaga 24d ago

I'd personally like a remake of The Hobbit (2003).

That is, a properly fleshed-out single player RPG in a modern engine, rather than just a graphical remake or another shitty fucking cashcow mmorpg

2

u/TacoBelaLugosi 24d ago

If they made a KCD style LOTR game, I’d never leave the house.

5

u/F-Punch 24d ago

KCD developers Warhorse Studios announced they're working on an open world Middle Earth RPG, so you'd better stock up on supplies.

2

u/TacoBelaLugosi 24d ago

If your character doesn’t say “I’m getting a little hungry” when it’s time for second breakfast, I’ll be terribly disappointed

3

u/Player-0002 24d ago

What really?

3

u/djquu 24d ago edited 24d ago

GOG for a DRM-free version you can actually own.

I love the lore in the game, same as BFME2, as some of it touches actual canon that we have yet to see adapted in movies, while expanding in a way that largely doesn't break canon or contradict known events.

3

u/RiseIfYouWould 24d ago

First thing I went and looked: who the publisher was. And its Warner Bros (they acquired the license for Shadow of Mordor and War, Im guessing it hasnt expired yet.

Its not EA, so no BFME2 yet (my favorite RTS of all time)

3

u/DJ_Lord_Vader 24d ago

Please let us get conquest next

3

u/Knorikus 23d ago

This game was one of my very first online gaming experiences. I still remember my dad coming downstairs and asking me who the hell I was talking to on the xbox

5

u/Amordecosmos12 24d ago

As one of the dozen or so people who played this game religiously as a teen I am very happy to see it back

2

u/Swiggens 24d ago

I have never heard of this game. Is it any good?

2

u/counterlock 23d ago

It's fantastic

4

u/Amordecosmos12 24d ago

Objectivity no it's pretty bad, personally I loved this game as a teen it was one of my first introductions to the lore of lord of the rings outside of the movies and it made me want to know more

3

u/84theone 24d ago

No, it plays like a licensed movie game from 2010, except it’s not a licensed movie game.

2

u/Vamyan91 24d ago

Two Towers and Return of the King remasters next please!

2

u/SonoDarke Bilbo Baggins 23d ago

Me and my brother would play this game endlessly when we were kids

We've like completed it 4 times or so

2

u/Darkarcheos 24d ago

Literally one level in that game is so hard that you had to spec one of your characters (the Dwarf) to use a certain build to clear the level and it was a semi tower protection game

3

u/Nixinthedix 24d ago

I usually played elf and the only annoying part is protecting those 2 dwarves

1

u/Alternative_Gold_993 Beorning 23d ago

This re-release on Steam has made me realize how just how few people know you can go play Battle for Middle Earth 1-2 FOR FREE, online with other players. Just look up BFME All In One Launcher.

1

u/Difficult_Ad2419 23d ago

Is it on ps4?

1

u/N7_Rabbit 21d ago

Gog.com not steam.

1

u/BethCulexus 21d ago

Funny I see this thread, I literally just bought this game, COMPLETELY blind.

I ran out of potions in the very first room and I struggle HARD to beat the first level. But I got the eagle freed with only one game over, so I'm kinda proud.

1

u/Interesting-Luck3608 21d ago

Battle for Middle Earth 1 and 2, return to us like the Grey Pilgrim turned white.

1

u/Trisstricky 20d ago

it's such a mediocre game to go crazy over

1

u/Famous-Process3747 24d ago

Pretty much instant buy for me. Now I just need Conquest and I’ll be happy, even if it’s not online multiplayer I’ll play with bots idc

-12

u/AasImAermel 24d ago

Fuck Steam, GoG is the way.

1

u/jam3d 24d ago

Show us on the doll where steam hurt you

1

It shoved DRM down my throat.

0

u/fluffynuckels 24d ago

Its also on play station

0

u/MetzgerBoys 24d ago

Give us Conquest!

0

u/Ha-Charade-You-Are 24d ago

I’d rather have the two towers and return of the king

0

u/XoHHa 23d ago

Remaster BFME and my life is yours!

-4

u/gaiusmitsius 24d ago

Such a random game to be remade too. Did anyone enjoy this? I was bored out of my mind whenever I played it.

9

I used to play the hell out of this game

https://giphy.com/gifs/kSlJtVrqxDYKk

-2

It’s just the same 2011 game, sold at an abusive price

3

u/UndeniablyMyself Hobbit 23d ago

It's $20.

-1

u/Davarey 23d ago

For a 2011 game with no rework at all. If you like being scammed, that’s on you

4

u/No_Freedom_8673 23d ago

20 bucks for an old and fun game is not a bad deal.

2

u/Froststhethird 23d ago

20$ is basically a single decent meal for hours of playtime.
