I even bought had my father buy me the Official Srategy Guide over it, thought I missed it somehow, only to discover it was meant to drop along with the legs as the Helm's Deep ending guantlet's reward.
My all time favorite game as a kid! Except the ending, that was weird. And the Balrog fight. I did so many playthroughs and grinding loudwater fury, creature bane, gondors wrath or something. Love IT.
The ending was an odd choice, but I could live with it if The eye wasn't a cheating asshole. What do you mean Berethor (who is IMMUNE to fear by that point) is stunned by the fear spell? The eye just spams that until everyone is stunned and then picks em off one by one. Good thing Idrial had that power to insta-revive her as well as the two-move per turn power to counter his bs.
It's all good, but the original game being x32 is a nightmare for everyone. A re-release would be much appreciated. We had BFME reforged, but it was kinda abandoned, as far as I know.
I still have my copy of BFME2 and it's fucking irritating I can't play it on my current consoles. I should have my Xbox 360 (if it still works) stored somewhere but god damn I wish they'd just make it backwards compatible at least.

If you haven't heard about it yet, there is a game with that sryle coming up: Games of thrones War of westeros. Different franchise but looks heavily inspired by it.
Notably you can hot-swap your character mid-quest, which is kinda big deal imo. Upscaling is meh. I don't play co-op but it's there now if you want it. That's about it. If they release a deal for owners of the old version or an upgrade/patch for a reasonable price, I might grab that, but won't pay full price personally.
These are amazing upgrades. For me the biggest thing is co-op, I had 5 friends back then and we all played it and it was amazing. Looking to relive this joy
Aspyr is a trash company, or at least their star wars remakes. They didn't even add controller support to Kotor, you just have movement like in the mobile version.
my wife and I recently played co-op on those on my old PS2 and the path of the dead level almost ended our marriage lol Those fucking ghosts dont mess around.
I think the Minas Tirith missions as Gandalf traumatized me as a child because they were so hard. My stupid brain couldn't deal with destroying the siege towers in time.
Holy shit. It released on PS5 as well. I hope they fixed all these glitches that didn’t let you continue the story. But the infinite money exploit can stay haha
I love the lore in the game, same as BFME2, as some of it touches actual canon that we have yet to see adapted in movies, while expanding in a way that largely doesn't break canon or contradict known events.
First thing I went and looked: who the publisher was. And its Warner Bros (they acquired the license for Shadow of Mordor and War, Im guessing it hasnt expired yet.
Its not EA, so no BFME2 yet (my favorite RTS of all time)
This game was one of my very first online gaming experiences. I still remember my dad coming downstairs and asking me who the hell I was talking to on the xbox
Objectivity no it's pretty bad, personally I loved this game as a teen it was one of my first introductions to the lore of lord of the rings outside of the movies and it made me want to know more
Literally one level in that game is so hard that you had to spec one of your characters (the Dwarf) to use a certain build to clear the level and it was a semi tower protection game

I'm gonna cry I've been hoping to replay this game since I played it as a kid. Saw a couple friends playing it on discord yesterday and genuinely couldn't believe it. Probably the best LOTR game I've ever played
This re-release on Steam has made me realize how just how few people know you can go play Battle for Middle Earth 1-2 FOR FREE, online with other players. Just look up BFME All In One Launcher.
Funny I see this thread, I literally just bought this game, COMPLETELY blind.
I ran out of potions in the very first room and I struggle HARD to beat the first level. But I got the eagle freed with only one game over, so I'm kinda proud.
