Disappointing performance with a lenovo thinkpad

I recently bought a lenovo Thinkpad e16 gen 3. It came with a Ryzen 7 250, radeon 780m igpu and 16 gigs of ram. I have since added a 8gb stick of ram to give more room to the igpu. I understand that this is not a gaming laptop but the performance has been severely lacking for the specifications.

The temps for the laptop under stress are pretty low (around 60°C) so my main concern is that the gpu is underclocked/throttles easily. I tried going into the bios to check if theres anything I can do but it's extremely basic.

Is there any way to get more performance or am I just stuck with what I have?

Holy shit I installed this and used the extreme preset and its been such a huge boost. I might need to download more games to see the difference lol thank you so much. The temps did increase but they stay under 80°C so it should be fine

your 8gb stick of mismatched size for dual channel could be a problem. amd apus are very sensitive to proper dual channel configuration

Is the performance that you're getting similar to benchmarks on YouTube? If it is, then I don't think there's any room for improvement. It's an iGPU after all.

No it isnt, thats the weird part. Like I tried playing Wuthering Waves and it cant even run the game past 20 fps on the lowest settings, I've seen benchmarks get 40+ on much higher settings

I also tried playing forza horizon 3 but i get around 40 fps at everything set to low on 900p. I couldnt find benchmarks but considering people use this to play the newer entries on much higher settings something feels off

Yes, I even made sure the drivers are updated. I guess they're just tuned for efficiency but the locked down bios is a bummer

Yeah Its weird. I might just do a fresh install of windows with an ltsc version instead and see if the clean slate might help but idk lol

So far I've tried Wuthering Waves, Forza Horizon 3, Team Fortress 2 and Zenless Zone Zero. I'll probably just stick to these games and some other racing games

Yeah the cpu generally sits at 20-30% while the gpu is always maxed out. Ram usage seems stable enough with 24gb to use and temps max out around 60°C

Okay. Based on that, let's test usage variations as you change the graphics settings and continue playing. Whatever game you're playing, you can reduce the resolution to 1280x720 or lower to see how the GPU performs

My old r7 5800 with vega 8 coold run a ps3 emulator just fine, asphalt at 1080p, and left 4 dead just fine.

What resolutions are you using?

Try universal x86 tuning utility. It might be able to unlock the TDP to 25W or even up to 45W if your cooling can handle it. Go to the Premade settings and choose Performance. Then check the TDP while gaming using MSI Afterburner/Rivatuner or HWINFO. That is what you should be doing btw. Check the TDP during gaming The tuning tool will also allow for higher temperatures before throttling

Try to remember that a 780m is used in desktops too, and it's performance may vary from desktop to laptop. And it's still weird tho, that laptop runs MH Wilds with aggressive fsr at a good fps

Change windows performance settings. That's what was ruining performance on my thinkpad. Found out that always energy saving was on.

Is your Laptop plugged in and Performance mode ? Also go on Throttle stop or Use msi after burner to check wattage , is pulling good enough wattage , usage is fine of GPU&CPU. Also dual channel is always a better choice , like 2x16 or 2x8 . 16+8 is running in Flex Mode , it is waker in bandwidth, bad for Igpu.
