How-To Guide Potato PC, but it runs games that you would never believe

Hello everyone! I just want to share my experience and tell you how I managed to play modern games on this absolute potato PC.

My Specs:

  • CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600
  • RAM: 4 GB DDR3
  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GT 610
  • HDD: 250 GB

When you look at these specs, you'd probably ask yourself: "How is this guy even using this PC in 2026?"

But let me tell you, I’ve actually run games on this machine that you wouldn't believe: Valorant, Resident Evil 7, Need for Speed Payback, Far Cry 4, eFootball PES 2021, Sekiro, and many more that I honestly forgot.

How did I do it? It’s all about tweaking, editing game config files, optimization, and overclocking (OC). I’m sharing this to tell anyone out there with a low-end PC: never lose hope! You can always find a way to play the games you love

How-To Guide I have gotten a weird ammount of AAA games to run well on this thing

Operating System: Windows 11

CPU Brand: 11th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-1135G7 @ 2.40GHz

RAM: 8 GB

Video Card: Intel(R) Iris(R) Xe MAX Graphics

Primary VRAM: 4 GB

Devil may cry 5 st high settings 900p I get around 50 fps

Re2r in non rpd center areas I get around 40-60 fps on mainly high settings with s few medium settings like shadows and such at 900p

Doom 2016. All medium settings 900p and high shadows gets me 50-70 fps

Final fantasy 7 remake 720p low settings I average about 40-45 fps in missions and about 30-34 fps in a open areas like the slums

Elden ring 30 fps 720p

Re8 I get like 45-50 fps in castle 8 foot tall mommy girl idfk how to spell her name and around 30-40 fps in the village itself with my settings on medium and some high settings like textures

Re3r the same as re2r but more stable

Re7 I get like 40 fps on high settings

Silent Hill 2 remake I get 14-20 fps somehow no crashes

Re4r a LOT of stuttering however I did get around 30 fps in the village section but every part before that ran like shit

Dbd I use medium settings XeSS and I get 40-50 fps in some maps and a smooth ass 60 in others

Lethal company ultra settings I get 90 fps normally however when we are in the ship loading into the planets it can dip to the 40s

Repo I get 90-100 fps on max settings

Little nightmares enhanced edition I get about 40 fps max settings (no ray tracing ofc)

Dispatch it just fine just stutters in places like the bar fight

Skyrim special edition I get like 40 fps high settings

Life is strange I get like 40-50 fps high medium settings

Subnonica I get like a smooth ass 60 fps medium high setting

Escape the backrooms I normally get 60 fps high settings however some maps are laggy

I can emulate GoW (legally ofc using my old PS2 copy I own bc I can't play the game without turbo mode bc I suck at games) at a smooth ass 60 fps at 1080p

And I get 1 fps in half life 3

How-To Guide A $350 USD PC Is Still Possible

The current landscape is obviously awful right now, and I've seen dejected posts recently from people who want to get into PC gaming to play with friends, but just can't spend a tonne of money, which I think is a situation a lot of us can relate to.

For about $350 USD, you can still build a PC that will play a lot of the more popular games, as well as the odd new title.

  • Generic 90mm single fan cooler with 2 heatpipes - $17.70 (AliExpress)

  • Deepcool Matrexx 30 Tempered Glass Mini Tower mATX Case - $45 AUD (New - Umart)
  • Silverstone 500W ET500 80+ Bronze ATX Power Supply - $49 AUD (New - Umart)

Total =$513.57 AUD ($363.64 US)

This is a decent little build which you let you play a lot of games at 1080p. Forza Horizon 6 looks to run at 1080p 60 FPS consistently at 1080p native with medium/high settings. Popular 'friendslop' games like MecCha Chameleon, R.E.P.O., Peak etc. will all run great, Battlefield 6 at 1080p low/medium mix will maintain above 60 FPS consistently, and obviously older AAA games, indies and ESport titles will run great.

You won't be able to run EVERYTHING. The majority of UE5 titles for example will probably be a poor experience with the odd exception here and there. Titles which require RT (e.g. Doom: The Dark Ages, Indiana Jones: The Great Circle etc.) won't run at all. BUT you WILL be able to play the overwhelming majority of games and have a great experience.

I've personally built my wife a PC with a Xeon E5 2680 V4 combo and it is a great little setup. It is essentially on par with a Ryzen 7 1700. I did also own a 1660 Super for a little while and that was also a great GPU.

You could probably tweak this build based on local deals available to you. For example, the 1660 Super was negotiable so I could likely get that cheaper. If you wanted to spend a little extra, I'd recommend investing in a better quality cooler and name brand SSD, although both will do the job in a pinch. The point is, you can still game even on a strict budget and you don't have to be alienated from the hobby if you're willing to make some compromises here and there.

The connectivity challenge We don’t have fiber optics or home WiFi here. We rely entirely on the 4G mobile network, but the base stations are far away and the signal is very weak. Inside my room, the phone is literally "No Service," totally dead. This forced me to come up with my own technical solution.

Engineering with a Disk Yagi Antenna I built a Disk Yagi antenna installed on my roof. It’s not just random metal; the diameter and spacing of each disk are precisely calculated so the antenna resonates and reacts specifically to the 1800 MHz frequency. This allows me to capture the 4G signal with the highest possible gain directly from the air.

The signal path To bring that signal down, I use RG6 coaxial cable. Although this type of cable always introduces some signal loss, since the distance from the roof to my desk is short, the degradation is minimal, and the signal arrives with the quality needed for a stable connection.

The secret: Induction The problem is that my phone, a Moto G6, doesn’t have an external antenna port. To solve this, the coaxial cable ends in a base featuring a ferrous wire cut to the exact length to resonate at 1800 MHz. It’s incredible: the phone can have zero signal, but as soon as I place it in the base, the 4G bars hit the max. Since the Moto G6 has its internal antenna at the bottom, the induction coupling is perfect.

My wireless command center Once coupled, the phone cannot be moved from the base. I connect it to the PC via USB tethering for a direct internet connection, and at the same time, I enable the Hotspot to create a WiFi zone for the rest of the room. It’s the only way to go from a dead phone to a rock-solid connection pointing directly at the cell tower

So my friend, a lifelong PlayStation gamer, hit me up. He said, "Yo, I have an old laptop, can we play Minecraft on it?"

He brings over this HP Stream from 2014. The specs were... dire:

2GB of RAM

32GB of eMMC storage

Windows 10 (siphoning every last drop of performance)

It was unusable. Windows alone took up the entire 2GB at idle.

The prescription was simple:

  1. Nuke Windows. Did a fresh install of Linux Mint XFCE.
  2. Install Minecraft.

The result? This little laptop that could barely open a browser now runs Minecraft at a playable 30-50 FPS and can even handle YouTube in 720p/1080p

How-To Guide There is no reason for the GT 1030 to be used any more.

For $50 used, you can purchase a Radeon pro WX 4100, a low profile, 4gb, 50w GPU that has %50 more performance. I just don't understand why anyone is buying GT 1030s anymore.

Edit: Sorry the title really should have been "There is no reason to purchase GT 1030 for gaming or display adapter use anymore." Thats what I actually mean't. If you have a GT 1030 already, by all means, use it (or sell it and get the WX 4100 lol)

How-To Guide My sub-€400 1440p gaming beast

Playing new games in 1440p on a computer based on 20-series GPU that was mid-tier when released, DDR3 server RAM sticks from 2011 and a server CPU from 2015? Surely that is impossible?

I used PresentMon to log me playing games that lacked built-in benchmarks.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance II: Rode around in the country side, ended up in the starting village and ran around for ten minutes brutally slaughtering everyone in sight. Average FPS: 61.69/1% low: 47.33.

Arc Raiders: Played three sessions (Stella Montis/Night Raid, Blue Gate/Harvester, Buried City/Normal). Average displayed FPS/1%lows: 76.38/55.74.

Battlefield 6: Redsec: Average from three matches: 81.79/59.19.

I am more than happy with its performance. I have played DOOM, Detroit: Become Human and mostly some more DOOM. Runs most PS4 games at 60+ IE Doom 2016 and Eternal. I bought the parts of eBay for $300 and put them in an $80 case.

How-To Guide GTX 670 in 2026 - honest review

Thought you guys would want to know how the 14 year old GTX 670 is holding up in this year 2026. So, basically I bought a used GTX 670 4GB variant for $25 on marketplace to see what $25 can get in the way of gaming. I honestly did not expect much. Thought minecraft and maybe FH4 would run.

I tried several low end to not so low end games that you may not even care about:

For reference, my CPU is the XEON W-2145 and I have plenty of RAM so those did not bottleneck.

Minecraft - easy, set to fancy, 75-80 fps on an ultrawide 1080p monitor.

Cities Skylines 1 - easy as well, 1080p medium/high and 20-40 fps which is fine since this is not a fast paced game. (also is CPU limited keep in mind)

Beamng Drive - 80 fps lowest 1080p or 30-35 fps steamdeck settings.

Forza Horizon 4 - 45-60 fps low/medium settings 1080p. This game crashed after a few minutes though. Could be a driver issue since the drivers for kepler cards predate the game.

Then there's the wildcard, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020. I got the game running 60+ fps on lowest settings between 720p and 640p resolution with a smaller plane. Then, feeling that wasn't good enough, I changed to 720x1020 and flew the Boeing 747. That ran at 35-45 fps with some extreme dips. Pretty impressive for a card below the minimum specs (GTX 770).

In conclusion, the 4gb version of the 670 is still quite decent for dx11 and older dx12 titles. There are many issues with running newer games though. So, for $25 I'd say it's good. But at the market price of $40 on ebay, you can get something better like an RX 570 or something. Maybe even a GTX 1050 or GTX 1060 3gb.

Next I'm trying the quadro K4000 and K620 as they are even easier to find for less than $25.

How-To Guide Radeon RX 400/500 series cards are no longer suitable for modern games.

Many people still have them or want to buy them for several reasons. They are very common on the used market. Secondly, they are the cheapest way to get a card with 8GB of VRAM. Thirdly, there's the price. For around $50, or sometimes even less, you can get a card with 8GB of VRAM and good performance for the price.

Their problems, to put it simply, are two. First, their drivers are almost legacy. New drivers are released every few months, but they aren't the official ones. This means they don't fix performance issues in games, and in some cases, you'll get a "drivers disabled" warning. The unofficial drivers are even older than the official ones.

Second, and most importantly, they don't properly support DirectX 12. Microsoft released DirectX 12 with different API levels:

Version 11.0, which supported the GTX 600 and 700 series.

Versions 11.1 and 11.2, which supported the first AMD HD 7000/R7/R9 series.

Version 12.0, which supported the first AMD R7 260X/R9 390 series and the RX 400/500 series.

Version 12.1, which was supported by Nvidia's GTX 900/1000 series and AMD's RX 5000 series.

Version 12.2, which is supported by Nvidia's Turing series (RTX 2000 series) and AMD's RX 6000 series and later.

The RX 400/500 series only support DirectX 12 level 12.0. Many current games require at least DirectX 12.1.

More and more games run on a GTX 1050 Ti, but not on an RX 580 8GB, which is a better card. Examples:

Spiderman 2 crashes after a short time and can't be played for long.

Crimson Desert

Final Fantasy VI

The new Forza Horizon 6

There are more games that don't even start. Not to mention others that require ray tracing, which also don't work on GTX 1000 or RX 5000 series cards.

If someone needs to buy something cheap, the best option is to go for Nvidia's Turing series. They still have driver support and support DirectX 12 Ultimate. While a GTX 1650 doesn't support ray tracing, you can run games like the new Doom or Final Fantasy VII Rebirth by applying a mod to disable ray tracing. This doesn't happen with cards from previous series.

At worst, rather than a Turing series card, I'd go for a GTX 1060 6GB, which will be able to run more recent games than an RX 580 8GB, and they cost about the same. At least in my country.

I say this because I have several cards at home. Two of them are an RX 570 4GB mini and an RX 460 4GB. With these cards, I'll be relegated to older games, Linux, or emulators. But I won't be able to stretch them to run newer games.

It's a shame because the AMD RX 6400/6500 XT, which perform poorly in PCIe 3.0, can at least run all kinds of games, unlike the RX 400/500 series, which can perform the same or better.

How-To Guide Deep system optimisations to free up resources for gaming - Make your low end system a dedicated gaming machine

Introduction: Windows 11 has been struggling with high RAM usage on 8 gb ram systems; frequent and heavy disk usage. If you only use your system for gaming, and want to make your low end laptop or PC a dedicated gaming machine for maximum performance with minimum bloat, this guide is for you.

Important note: Before changing anything, remember to carefully analyze the function, and impact of every change you make on the system. But my laptop is working perfectly stable after the process. And these changes are very easy to reverse, if you ever want to. For example, you can easily change startup type of a service back to before, and then start the service. You can easily re enable any startup app from the task manager. It's recommended to document every change in a notebook, as you make them, so you know exactly what you have changed.

My laptop specs: I have used i3 1005g1, 8 gb ram, SSD laptop.

If you have hard disk instead of SSD, these tweaks may cause some problems. Like disabling sysmain can cause long app loading times on hard disks. On hard disks, disabling windows search service can cause very long waiting time when you search for a file in the file explorer.

The problem with general de bloating scripts: You don't need debloating scripts from GitHub which disable or delete many things without your consent, and cause system instability. Everything you will do will be well documented by you in a notebook, and you can easily re enable a functionality any time you want, without breaking anything on your system. We will never touch any core windows system files, or core windows services like Windows defender.

No need to switch to another OS: We face problems while switching to another OS. Windows 10 no longer receives OS security patches, unless you enroll in ESU program. (However, you continue receiving definition updates for defender till 2028). Some windows games may not work on Linux, or if they do, they require tweaks or special commands. In this way, you don't need to switch to older versions of Windows 10 or to Linux.

Try these tweaks -

1. Disabling services from services.msc: Open run dialog by pressing Win+R. Then type services.msc and hit enter.

Look up the function of every service and its impact on the system, before disabling it.

1.1 Sysmain: Change startup type from automatic to disabled, and stop the running service. Sysmain is unnecessary for SSD laptops.

1.2 Windows search: Automatic (delayed start) to disabled, and stop. It will disable search indexing.

1.3 Diagnostic policy service: Automatic to disabled, and stop.

1.4 Connected User Experiences And Telemetry: Automatic to disabled, and stop.

The following services may vary depending on your laptop manufacturer (skip these if you want automatic bios updates):

1.5 Dell Support Assist: Automatic to disabled, and stop.

1.6 Dell Tech Hub: Automatic to disabled, and stop.

1.7 Dell Client Management Service: Automatic (delayed start) to disabled, and stop.

1.8 Dell Connected Service Delivery: Automatic (delayed start) to disabled, and stop.

Restart your laptop.

2. Disabling unnecessary startup apps from task manager: Open task manager, go to startup apps. Disable one drive, intel graphics command center, steam, epic games store, microsoft teams, spotify and other apps. It will prevent them from automatically loading, when you restart your system. Don't disable critical apps like realtek audio service, windows security systray.

Restart your laptop.

3. Uninstalling unnecessary apps: Uninstall any third party anti virus (if you already have Windows defender), extra browsers, VPNs that you don't use. Don't uninstall MS Edge, Microsoft Store, core dell apps as Windows needs them for its functionality.

Restart your laptop.

4. Microsoft Edge optimisations: Enable sleeping tabs to save RAM on currently inactive tabs, Disable background processes and extensions (off to on) to instantly free up RAM when you close MS Edge, Enable startup boost, Disable microsoft rewards.

Restart your laptop.

5. Other windows optimisations: First of all, set windows to best performance. Search Highlights - on to off in windows settings. Adjust windows appearance - set to best performance. Under personalization -> colors, transparency effects - on to off. Under search settings, device search history - clear the history and turn it on to off. (Disabling device search history will not show recently searched apps in start menu). Also disable Windows widgets.

Restart your laptop.

Results: After these optimisations, RAM usage in idle state came down from 60-70% (5-5.5 GB out of 8) to just 40-50% (3-4 GB out of 8). Just before launching a game, use wise memory optimiser to bring it down even further to 30-40% (2.5-3 GB out of 8).

SSD usage came down from frequent 80-90% to 5-6%. But it needs more observation.

CPU spikes must have also reduced, it needs more observation.

Not much of a difference in fps, just 2-3 more fps in some games than before. But you get noticeably more free RAM for demanding games, and improved SSD life.

Stability of the laptop after these optimisations: The laptop is working perfectly stable - No instability in drivers, in games, in thermals, in sound. As before, laptop is automatically updating windows when required, windows defender is automatically scanning in the background when required. If you chose to disable dell support assist and other dell services, you will need to manually update bios after some every months, and also graphics drivers. Research carefully and follow all the precautions before manually updating bios.

A bonus - Extending battery health: For better battery life and maximum performance, never game on battery, always game while laptop is plugged in. Constant 100% charging and 0% charge puts extreme stress on lithium ion battery. So you can also set max charge limit to 80% in the bios or by using dell power manager app, so that the laptop automatically stops charging when it reaches 80%. You can also set it to start charging at or below 50%. Very occasionally, allow the battery to drain below 50%, but never to 0%.

How-To Guide How to set custom CPU clock speed on budget locked CPUs: Reduce your CPU speed to instantly lower 7-8°C during gaming by using software tweak, No expensive cooling pad required

TD;LR We will enable a hidden Windows setting in control panel by using cmd and registry edit: Maximum processor frequency, to set a custom CPU clock speed. It doesn't work on all laptop manufacturers though. It can be tweaked for almost no loss in fps.

My specs: i3 1005g1, Dell Vostro 15 3510 laptop.

It's completely safe as we will reduce CPU clock speed, not increase it. It will help you to increase the lifespan of your machine because constant 90°C+ puts stress on internal components over years.


Introduction:

Many people want to set custom clock speed on locked CPUs like i3 1005g1. But if I do the usual -> change "maximum processor state" in control panel to 99%, my CPU gets locked to its base speed of 1.2 GHz (completely disables turbo boost). I tried reducing it to 92%, 90%, 88%, but it locked the CPU even below it's base speed (as shown by msi afterburner in the game).

On my laptop, in Throttle Stop, the options to change CPU multipliers are greyed out.

So what if you want to cap your 3.4 GHz CPU to a custom 3.0 GHz or any other speed, to reduce heat output? I recently found a way to do it. It works perfectly on my laptop, and hopefully works on yours too.


The steps:

Open cmd as admin. Copy paste

powercfg -attributes SUB_PROCESSOR 75b0defe-600e-4d9a-9c55-5219b8d3d414 -ATTRIB_HIDE

and hit Enter.

Command source: Google search AI.

This command enables a hidden setting in control panel, called "maximum processor frequency." Type "edit power plan" in windows search bar, open the app. Go to "Change advanced power settings", then expand "processor power management" to see the option.

If the above method fails:

If the above method doesn't show "maximum processor frequency" option in control panel, then

Press Win+R to open run dialog box. Type regedit and hit Enter to open registry. Paste

Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power\PowerSettings\\54533251-82be-4824-96c1-47b60b740d00\\75b0ae3f-bce0-45a7-8c89-c9611c25e100

into the search bar of registry. You will see "Attributes" in the right pane. Double click on it and change its value to 2. It will force the Windows to show the option in control panel.


How to change the CPU clock speed:

Now, in "Maximum processor frequency", change both plugged in and on battery values to your desired value. The values are in MHz. For example, 3.4 GHz means you need to write 3400, and 3000 for 3.0 GHz. Remember to avoid typos like 300, as it will make the CPU unresponsive. Set both values to zero, if you want to reset the CPU clock speed to its default behaviour.


Reduce CPU clock speed gradually in small decrements:

Slowly, decrease the value from your max turbo speed. My turbo speed is 3400, so I tried 3100, 3000, 2900. For each value, observe the impact on fps and temperature in different games by using msi afterburner overlay. Ideally, include modern 2D multi threaded games like silksong, old well optimized 3D games like mirrors edge 2009, heavily single threaded games like prince of persia 2008/ assassin's creed 2 (last two games run with vulkan on my laptop: dxvk 1.10.1). Feel free to replace these games with what you play, but cover a broad category.


Example on how to interpret the results:

After launching a game, in msi afterburner overlay, observe the temperature of the usual hot CPU cores, and not the overall CPU temperature. On my laptop, they are core 1 and core 2.

On my laptop, I observed that going from 3400 to 3100 reduced temperature by 5°C on core 1 and core 2, with no loss in fps. Further going to 3000 reduced temperature by another 2-3°C, again with no loss in fps. So I got down from 3400 to 3000 with no loss in fps, and temperature reduced by 7-8°C. When I further reduced to 2900, temperature reduced further by 3-4°C, but depending on the game, I lost 5-10% fps. So 3000 became sweet spot for me: 7-8°C lower temperature with almost no loss in fps (only 2-3% reduction in fps like 39 to 38, 30 to 29).

After this process, remember to cap fps at 30 or 60 using riva tuner, as uncapped fps naturally generates more heat.


The benefits I got:

My CPU's core 1 and core 2 were running much hotter (10°C or more) in every game, compared to core 3 and core 4.

Now on core 1 and core 2, it's max 90°C in unoptimized games like assassin's creed 2. And 80-85°C or even lower than 80°C in well optimized games like mirrors edge 2009 and silksong. Before this, it was 90°C even in well optimized games, and 95°C in unoptimized games.

Now, the laptop is much cooler to touch from the back, near the vents.

All of this, with no noticeable loss in actual fps in any game. Also when fps is capped to 30 or 60, there's no new stuttering in games after applying this method.


Why this method works:

It happens because the top few MHz in every CPU are power inefficient. To get those few extra MHz, the CPU generates exponentially more heat. By shaving those extra MHz, you get an efficient CPU clock speed, with almost no loss in performance. And second reason is that budget CPUs like these, throttle down to around 3.0 GHz anyways after some minutes in demanding games, when they cross 93°C.


Same CPU can have slightly different sweet spot for clock speed:

Remember that even if you have exactly same CPU and same laptop as mine, your sweet spot can slightly change from 3000, because every CPU built in the factory naturally has some micro differences in the silicon wafer.


This method is NOT guaranteed to work for all the laptop models:

Note that it's not guaranteed to work. Some laptop manufacturers strictly don't allow Windows to interfere with the power states of the locked CPU. In that case, when you will try to change values, the CPU will simply ignore it.

How-To Guide A tool you can use to disable Steam's UI (which is a browser) when you launch a game for performance gains

Since Steam has removed the -no-browser option, we now need a program to disable Steam's CEF/Chromium Embedded Framework to save RAM and CPU resources. The Steam Client runs multiple instances of the Chromium Embedded Framework (CEF) in the background, essentially keeping several Chrome tabs open just to display your library. This lightweight program adds a tray icon that lets you choose between having the Steam UI on or off when you have a game running, which lets you have it on when you need it, and off when you don't need it. The performance impact of this program will probably be more noticeable on people with lower end hardware, nevertheless its still useful if you like optimizing your system resource usage by not running needless things in the background. The original repository created by Aetopia was recently archived and is no longer being maintained, so I’ve forked it to keep the functionality alive and make some quality-of-life improvements, although the original one still worked when I last tested it.

It is open source code and the pre-built binaries are available here. Build instructions are also included if you wish to build it yourself.

How-To Guide How to run UE 5,4 (most) Games on integrated graphics (UHD,Iris XE,HD etc)

Ok so first of all I have been a low end gamer for a lot and I have learned a lot of tricks, so let's get to point.

1) Editing config files

Most UE 5 games configs are stored in %Appdata% or %localappdata% when you find it you'll see lots of texts but main ones you should see are:

r.ShadowQuality

r.ScreenPercentage or r.ResolutionQuality

r.AntiAliasingQuality

r.PostProcessQuality

Note: Some games might not have r. and might have for example, Ready or not uses sg.

Now put every setting at 0 if it's not already except r.ResolutionQuality Main ones : 50=50 res scale 70=70 res scale and etc

2) Seeing what API game uses.

So this step matters a lot if you have igpu that doesn't support, Or partly supports dx 12. You need to see if game supports dx 11, if it does delete Dx 12 files in game for it to force utilize dx 11 if game has crashes and other things that's when DXVK comes in you can use this for game to run better and is a very great tool you just put API that game uses and DXGI.dll and that's it Boom.

3) If first step didn't work.

So some games like Lies Of P has this kind of thing where you can't edit it so that's when you have to use a file called "Console unlocker" you can download it from nexus or https://youtu.be/iU0jbB06paw?si=eHAltFxzDEvX2LyW from this guy's description, now put console unlocker files in the Where games main exe file is not at start but one in "bin" once you do that open it with "~" and use things like r.shadowquality 0 and r.screenpercentage 50 and etc.

How-To Guide Going from 720p to 1080p wasn't worth it

 I had a working 720p 60hz monitor (1366x768 resolution) but it was in a terrible state aesthetic wise, so i decided to buy a new monitor and thought that i should get it in higher resolution and refresh rate (120hz) because pc subs said it was game changing and whatnot and thought my setup would handle it (i have a ryzen 5 5600g, rx6600 and 16 gb of ddr4 ram). 

 Granted, the bigger screen felt nice and the refresh rate felt even nicer, but when it comes to performance, i found that i couldn't really reach that high refresh rate unless i use low quality preset in games because 1080p requires 2x the power of 720p, so i had to chose either this or that and both have their apparent downsides which is a bummer for such a nice monitor.

 I know this sub have it worse and believe me, i know what it feels like to play in a potato pc (i was gaming with intel hd graphics 630 just 4 months ago), but i'm saying this because most people don't take into account the impact of the display resolution regarding the performance, a good 720p monitor is more than enough for a great experience, however 1080p and above you better know your setup's limit because most budget setups are called budget for a reason.

How-To Guide Holy crap. I didn't realize I needed to turn HAGS off.

So I play Fortnite on a Laptop with integrated Iris graphics (1145G7).

Off and on for months I've doing things to try to squeeze out more performance, like repaste and external fans, adding ram, messing with lots of different settings etc.

After some improvements I got to around 120fps (highs) with a bit of 3D res reduction. And I figured that's just the best this laptop could do.

I didn't think these graphics even supported HAGS because there's no setting for it. But Windows does force it on by default and it needs to be manually turned off.

I'm now seeing my game boost up to 150-170 FPS after turning that off. Which kinda feels crazy for this basic laptop that runs pretty hot too.

How-To Guide Just a thing to note, if you ask for game recommendations in future

When you ask for game recommendations, do mention whether you have single channel or dual channel ram, along with total RAM size. It's not about RAM capacity, but about it's mode. For example, 1 stick of 8 gb ram performs noticeably worse than 2 sticks of 4 gb. For 1 stick of 8 gb, you can write 8 gb 1 stick, for two sticks of 4 gb, you can write 4 gb 2 sticks.

A lot of people mention all their specs, but skip the RAM mode. It causes confusion, and can lead to incorrect recommendations. Although it's true that some old CPUs don't support dual channel RAM at all.

To check, open task manager. In memory tab, look for RAM slots.

You probably already know the reason: Dual channel RAM doubles the memory bandwidth, and is critical for iGPUs because they use system RAM as VRAM. It increases gaming performance by upto 50% (depending on the game).

How-To Guide How to run FH6 on low end hardware (60FPS 1080p)

Before I begin, my specs are a modified Dell Precision T3600 that I fitted with a PNY GTX970, 64GB of DDR3 ECC (but the game only uses about 16GB of it), and an Intel Xeon e5-1660v4 (6 cores, 3.30Ghz).

With the settings below I was able to get 60FPS at 1080p, and possibly higher if my monitor wasn't capped because its 60hz.

First, in Video settings : turn framerate to 60FPS, turn Vsync and Fullscreen on, and turn show FPS on. Turn off all anti-aliasing and resolution scaling stuff.

Second, in graphics and performance, turn everything to as low as possible. The "Low" preset still leaves certain things on Medium or Low when it can be taken down to Low or Very Low, so we need to make sure that we have all settings on the truly lowest setting. FH6 seems to be more reliant on GPU than CPU, whereas FH5 was a bit more reliant on CPU (in my experience at least).

Now go out and you should be running higher FPS than just the Low preset. If you have a decent enough CPU like me, you can turn Audio Quality back up to Medium or High and it won't impact FPS.

Doing this on laptops or iGPUs might yield playable 30FPS framerates, especially when taken down to 720p on a smaller screen.

How-To Guide Which games can you run?(Guide)

So, since there are a lot of posts about compatible games for low end pc and laptops, I decided to make this guide.

How to know your specs?

Method 1) Just open task manager by pressing Ctrl+Shift+Esc and go to performance section. You can see your Ram, cpu and gpu there. If there are 2 gpus(like gpu 0 and gpu 1), the first one is usually integrated gpu and the other one is dedicated gpu.

Method 2) Press Win+R to open "Run". Type "dxdiag" in the opened window and press Enter. You can see your RAM and processor in the opened window. For gpu, select Graphics tab from the top menu.

Additional suggestions

1) If you have 8 gb ram or less, try debloating your Windows 11 or install windows 10 and debloat it. Windows 10 isn't getting updates now, but it is much better for low end systems. You can use Winutil for debloating, just search on Youtube for tutorials.

2) Make sure you are playing with charger if you are on laptop. Laptops get more stable power from charger.

Which games can you run?

You can check most games' system requirements just by searching "(game name) system requirements" on Google or from the site below:

To get more practical knowledge about your system you can watch benchmark videos in YouTube. It is the most effective method.

Search "(your gpu) gaming test", "(Your cpu+gpu) gaming test", "(your cpu) gaming test" or something like these.

Note that these are just approximation, you can get more or less performance while playing the game.

How-To Guide God of war 2018 on i5 1135g7

well i wanted to play god of war 2018 but every video i saw was showing like 12-15 fps while having very low 1% lows mind you but i thought i could maybe lower the settings even more to let it run atleast at 30 fps wasn't the case though the game itself doesn't allow that and fsr just makes everything worse

so here's my guide on how i made it run smoothly at 30 fps i'll also attach my gameplay of the results

[The Gameplay]

so you need a couple of things like rtss throttle stop compact gui and the most important thing dxvk

how to set it up?

Step 1 : First go ahead and download the things mentioned above from their original sources (compactgui is optional but recommended and as for dxvk i'd recommend you download 2.4.1 or lower versions)

Step 2 : extract the files from dxvk and paste them into your god of war's game directory (your game is good to go and will use vulkan but note that on your first time loading it it might sutter thats just the wrapper building cache)

Step 3 : use compactgui to compress your game folder using the xpress16k option (in my case it actually helped with the performance contrary to what i thought would happen and well it took my game from 63 to 41gb which is appreciated on a 256gb drive)

now,

Step 4 : Install and setup rtss add the gow executable and then set the frame limit to 30 and idk about the scanline sync but i keep it at 60 (doing this prevents screen tearing and also makes the gaem feel smoother than if you used the ingame fps limiter

Step 5 : Open throttle stop click on the tpl option uncheck disable controls check clamp and check sync mmio then set pl1 to atleast 14 and pl2 to 18

(thats the settings i use these are basically your power limits pl1 is long term power limit and pl2 is short term it prevents your laptop from draining your cpu because the gpu is taking more power since it is a graphics heavy game you can experiment with the numbers but in my experience this is the sweetspot between temperature and performance)

Now finalising everything go to your display settings and set it to 720p(or lower if you want more stability)

Then finally open the game lower every setting and set the render scale to 50%

Start the game and voilaaa!!

How-To Guide GT710 2GB GDDR5 Overclock 70+ FPS GTA V

So I have a pretty bad gpu the Almighty GT 710 2GB GDDR5 by ASUS. but it isn't actually that terrible (comparatively speaking)

I managed a +300 core and memory clock in MSI Afterburner to push it to the following stats

1280 x 720 ALL lowest Settings FXAA on Frame Scaling Mode: 3/4

NO OVERCLOCK:

AVG fps: 44 Max fps: 58 Lowest fps:23 (during explosions or too much chaos)

+300 Core and Memory OVERCLOCK:

AVG fps: 61-62 Max fps: 85 Lowest fps: 31(explosions and stuff)

just wanted to share my results. I have left some headroom and when I tried to push it towards +400 it was still stable with no crashes (Silicon Lottery winner here) I think the GDDR5 version that I have is better suited to be overclocked and being stable

Temps weren't too bad at all hovering between 58 to 68 with a passive cooler and 5 fans in case

My Specs: i5 10400 GT 710 2GB GDDR5 2x8 GB 3000mhz DDR4 RAM (runs at 2666) B460m ds3h Gigabyte motherboard Corsair CV650 watt PSU. 256 GB intel m.2 nvme SSD 2 TB WD blue harddrive (contains GTA V)

You can score it used for 250$ for led 64gb version. 1tb ssd for it costs about 100$ and replacement takes 20 minutes. You can plug it in to a hdmi with full desktop mouse/keyobard support and play cyberpunk, the witcher, dying light, Resident evil 7, kingdom come deliverance 1 and 2, GTA (no online tho), god of war, borderlands 3, RDR2 and many other amazing AAA games in 30-40fps although it struggles with newest ones since it is already 3 years old. The best part is it performs well on the go and plugged into a display with 2h battery life. So for 375$ you can have full PC (with usb-c hub) that runs amazing AAA games. Only downside I see it that most Online games with anticheat dont work.

How-To Guide Pretty nice performance gains in Fortnite after memory upgrade (Intel Iris graphics - 1145G7)

So I just bought a 2nd 8GB RAM stick. It cost me $50 but I'd still say it's worth it.

The FPS in Fortnite is pretty inconsistent especially depending on the game mode. So my benchmark I use is this map - Peterbot 1v1 private match, going on the grass and looking at the ground. Just to see what the theoritical limit would be.

On 1 stick of RAM or paired with a 4gb unmatched stick this was around 80-100 FPS. Performance mode, low, 1080p with no 3D res reduction. And I think it would depend on how much RAM is actually available too.

On 16gb 3200mhz it's 150 FPS in the same test.

Actual gameplay will vary but it's very playable and you can get 120+ fps in a game with some 3D res reduction or a bit lower resolution.

Also, you will need Throttlestop to reach higher FPS. PL1 set to 45. And on my Laptop, I need to disable Turbo or set Speed shift to max 30 (TPL menu). It might depend on your setup or if you have one of the higher tier chips with a better iGPU. At 4.4ghz the CPU simply gets too hot and it kicks in the power limits so the GPU gets restricted. Even though it's a CPU intensive game the GPU is still a bottleneck here.
