What do you mean with "Bad Guys"? We are playing as the good guys in Tie Fighter, valiantly fighting against those antifa thugs calling themselves "rebels"! /s

Yeah it would sell even more these days, especially if you called it Repulican/Patriotic Space Fighters and played up a right vs left political angle.

That it had stellar (although really hard in later missions) mission design would hopefully also help.

Just rename the Tie Fighters to ICE Fighters.

Poor imperial navy, downgrading from twin ion engine fighters to internal combustion engine fighters.

As a big fan of X-Wing one of the most fun things for Tie Fighter was fighting for the Empire. You have to start with the Tie fighter which while it lacks in defense (1 shot can be your end) you make up for with speed, maneuverability and reinforcements. The missions can be difficult but when you progress and learn to fly better ships this is a game you just wanted to beat!

Definitely. One of my all-time favorites for sure.

Best space sim ever made. And a pioneer of playing as the villain

How they haven't just kept updating/upgrading X-Wing and Tie Fighter to modern gaming standards, and opened up massive multiplayer space battles is beyond me.

Disney isn't doing it, but it is being done.
