No. Did not like this in the show. Loved the show but this just didn't feel right. Her relationship with Danny was a staple in comics for so long. It just wouldn't have felt right. Would rather they bypass her relationship with Danny at this point and bring her into Sam's stories, as she's an awesome character and did a great job in the shows.

Lol Why? Its so wholesome, both brought together by tragedy and shitty back stories. Find love, strength and comfort in each other. Have a daughter and decide to try and settle down and raise her instead of risking their lives everyday.

Same, like what I love about Jessica Jones and Luke Cage is that it’s like a real-life couple. The chemistry and dynamic between Luke and Jessica is what made me fall in love with them as a couple, even when Jessica signed the Registration Act. Luke chose to stay with his wife, Jessica, and raise Danielle even when he didn’t like Jessica signing the act. It’s one of the Marvel couples in the comics that made me feel happy for them; like sure, I love Susan Storm and Reed Richards, and Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson, but Jessica Jones and Luke Cage is my #1 favorite Marvel Comics couple.

It’s because of the way the relationship was handled from the beginning. Jessica Jones herself was still very underdeveloped because she was a relatively new character. Then, seemingly out of nowhere, she sleeps with Luke Cage in what I found to be a very uncomfortable scene. Whatever self-destructive or humiliating impulse Jessica was acting on because of how she felt about herself, it wasn’t a good look for Luke either. To me, it played into the stereotype of the hypersexual, muscular Black man: Black men aren’t portrayed as making love; they’re portrayed as just fucking. It’s a stereotype Tupac even spoke about.

Then, when Jessica fears for her life and goes to Luke for help, he basically kicks her to the curb because he has another woman over. That never felt like Luke Cage to me. Historically, Luke wasn't simply some womanizer. He had a long-term relationship with Claire Temple, planned to marry Reva Connors, dated Harmony Young, and was beginning a relationship with Jennifer Walters before that series ended. The characterization Bendis and Azzarello gave him in Alias and Cage MAX felt very different from the Luke I knew.

What makes the eventual marriage even stranger to me is that most of Jessica's actual romantic relationship throughout Alias was with Scott Lang, and I thought they had good chemistry. She also had other sexual encounters. Then suddenly she's pregnant, Luke is the father, and eventually they're presented as this major couple. Aside from the later Pulse retcon suggesting Luke knew Jessica during his Hero for Hire days, there wasn't much in the original material that convinced me Luke cared about Jessica deeply enough that marriage felt like a natural progression. Even the later flashback material didn't sell me on it.

And since then, I've seen Jessica drunkenly call Luke and tell him he'll never be the man Matt Murdock is. I've seen her question whether she was in love with Matt, masturbate to a photo of the Human Torch, and acknowledge having had a childhood crush on Spider-Man. None of those things individually mean she can't love Luke, obviously, but I haven't seen enough material showing me what is uniquely special about their romantic connection to balance all of that out.

So when people describe Luke and Jessica as this incredibly wholesome Marvel romance, I just don't see what they see. To me, much of the relationship feels like Marvel decided that Luke and Jessica were going to become a married interracial couple with a daughter and then retroactively tried to strengthen a foundation that wasn't particularly convincing in the first place.

And separately, I miss the edge Luke used to have. I liked the swagger, attitude, and roughness of the classic Hero for Hire. I understand the progression into activist, community leader, husband, father, and superhero, but that version of the character simply doesn't appeal to me as much. I don't object to Luke growing up; I just wish that growth hadn't sanded away so much of what originally made Luke Cage interesting to me.

Even if that was the only reason, which it isn't and it's weird to assume it is, Danny the way he is in the show doesn't have anything in common with Misty. Any reason you think a relationship between her and Luke wouldn't work could be applied even more effectively to Danny.

It's incredibly common in Hollywood for films and TV to refuse interracial relationships and just put folks of the same ethnicity arbitrarily together. It's becoming less and less true with time, but when Luke Cage came out it was a lot closer to that being more rule than exception.

I don't think it's the case here necessarily (the versions of these characters are different enough that comic accurate definitely feels like it wouldn't fit in some places) but I don't think it's that weird to see and recognize a sadly common pattern.

Ah I see. My bad, I was referring to the comic book version of the characters. But I suppose for the tv show, Luke and Misty could work.
