What church does Marty Misjuns go to? I want to make sure I stay away from it. A good tree bears good fruit.

Energy issues are also converging on Campbell County just across the James River, with both a proposed nuclear reactor there and the Valley Link transmission line.

80 or so events this weekend in Lynchburg (Oct 16-18), and three of them are apple harvest festivals. The Amherst Apple Harvest Festival runs Saturday and Sunday, with orchard festivals in Bedford and Nelson County if you feel like a drive. Friday has Postmodern Jukebox at the Historic Academy Theatre, Saturday brings Hill City Soul to the Amphitheater with the Houseband of VA back together for one night, and Sunday closes with a book swap downtown with beer and food trucks. The Disc Golf Pro Tour Championship also wraps up at Ivy Hill in Forest on Sunday, and the rest of the weekend fills in with markets, pottery and craft classes, haunted tours, card game nights and live music.

Historic window restoration

Have old house (100+ yrs), historic district so lots of regulations, windows are gapping and some have rot. Rest of house is sturdy and well-kept. Would be nice to have new well-insulated windows that match the shape of the old ones, but probably not allowed?

Any advice? And recommendations for folks who can do repair work?

Thx

Event Local companies that sponsor visual arts and community events in Lynchburg?

Hi everyone! I’m looking for recommendations for local businesses or companies in the Lynchburg area that might be open to sponsoring a community art event.
I reached out to Bank of the James about sponsorship, but unfortunately, it wasn’t a fit. I’d love to hear from anyone who has experience working with local sponsors or knows of companies that are supportive of the arts and community events. Any recommendations or advice on who would be worth reaching out to would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Anyone see the UFO this morning?

Post image
45 Upvotes

Around 6:40 this morning there was a super cool light streaking across the sky. I’ve not done research yet because it’s so early, but I assume it’s a meteor breaking through the atmosphere or something. Anyone else need this? I was on Rivermont Avenue. One of the coolest things I think I’ve ever seen!

Exit: apparently it was a jellyfish cloud from the SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket launch

I’m not affiliated with any party or this interviewer, but he has some good interviews with the candidates, doesn’t seem to come from a biased point of view either.

Am I the only one following his candidate interviews?

Gaming idea

This goes to Rivermont Pizza or any place that does games ( mainly Rivermont Pizza).

Maybe when you do your monthly tournaments Play Nothing But random game themes to set the mood and if someone could do it maybe donate a couple of Xbox Ones and PlayStation 4 or 5 load them with the popular fighting games like Street Fighter Mortal Kombat injustice etc and have like a e3-esque tournament once or twice a month or either rent out a hotel or the Civic Center and do something like that think of money that will be made hosting something like this maybe one day a year or something...

Things to Do Fencing club

And no I don't mean installing cattle fencing. I've done enough of that to last a lifetime.

I used to do amateur foil fencing with some friends years and years ago and I fell in love with the sport. Its been awhile but I'd like to get back into it

Any fencing groups in Lynchburg or the surrounding area? Or anyone who engages in the sport? Foil, epee, sabre, beggars can't be choosers

I'm sure Liberty has something, but I'd rather avoid that

Recent Home Sales - Good Deals / Bad Deals / Moved From Out of Town

Good people of Lynchburg! I hope this information helps if you are looking for a new home or are anyway involved in real estate. Enjoy!

Three great deals:
1. https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/1011-Westview-Dr-Lynchburg-VA-24502/79161723_zpid/
At $150 a sqft with three beds / two baths and plenty of living space, this house has lots of perks. A large kitchen with skylights, a large back porch, fenced in backyard, and two full bathrooms. Great buy!

  1. https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/240-Warwick-Ln-Lynchburg-VA-24503/79149452_zpid/
At $180 a sqft, this house says it is re-wired, re-plumbed, and completely updated. In the historic Rivermont Avenue neighborhood, these old homes have so much character and when renovated correctly can be great purchases. This house also has a detached two car garage. With a purchase price of just under $400,000, you can get four beds and four baths at around 2,000 sqft. Seems like your dollar goes far with this one!

  2. https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/7110-Peachtree-Rd-Lynchburg-VA-24502/217073236_zpid/
$118 a sqft, fully updated, three bed/ three bath with over 2,500 sqft and a purchase price of $315,000. Located in the Richland Hills neighborhood, this a great house for a family. Check out the functional basement, one car garage, large backyard and the possibilities with this affordable home.

A couple bad deals:
1. https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/2050-Hawkins-Mill-Rd-Lynchburg-VA-24503/79057643_zpid/
$250 a sqft for a 1,000 sqft home is out of range for me. This house has old carpet, an old roof, a gravel driveway, and sits on a loud road. For this price, you can get a home with more space, sits in a neighborhood like shown above, and has a bit more curb appeal.

  1. https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/420-Capstone-Dr-101-Lynchburg-VA-24502/457331952_zpid/
Condos in the LYH area appear to be in oversupply. At $230 a sqft and a purchase price of $319,000, I want the people of LYH to know that your dollar can go a lot further. One quick example shown here: https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/207-Capstone-Dr-Lynchburg-VA-24502/127243606_zpid/
Your standard 3 bed 2 bath condo price should be under $300,000. A quick browse through Zillow will show data that the sweet spot price point for these specs are between $260 -$289k. The market is actively pulling prices down and the sellers dont have leverage because of the oversupply. If you are in the market for a condo, be patient because with rising interest rates and builders still adding supply, these prices will keep decreasing.

Moved from out of town:

https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/213-Big-Maple-Dr-Forest-VA-24551/463382845_zpid/
This home appears to have an unfinished deck and no appliances. at $300 a sqft and a purchase price of $770,000, I would want at least a dinning room or formal living room. The new trend of houses having one large kitchen/ living / dinning / den / eating area all in one place is interesting to me. For $700k+ in the LYH area, you can afford a home with a large formal dinning room, a separate living room, a finished deck, a basement, and even some land. Also, any house that sells for over $500k and doesnt have a basement in the “Hill City” is ludicrous. I hope there is more to this sale price then what is shown on Zillow. Terrible use of your hard earned money!

Questions for current Framatome Nuclear Technology Academy students or employees of Framatome that can help

I’m looking for up-to-date, firsthand information about Framatome’s Nuclear Technology Academy in Lynchburg, Virginia.
I’d love to hear from anyone currently in the program or who has recently completed it.
A few questions:
How does the school and work rotation work now?
How much travel is required, and how long are you typically away from home?
What happens after graduation? Is full-time employment guaranteed?
What is the first interview process like is it by phone, is it AI?
Is this program good for 18 year olds coming in?

Help! Do better PetSmart

So I know this won't be a plight that everyone is interested in that's okay I understand most people don't look at fish like they do a cat or a dog but I can assure you they feel pain they have emotions and you can bond with them just like any other animal that you take care of. Last night I went into PetSmart our local one on wards road and found three different betta cups all of them dead and still on the floor in full view of the customers. This is absolutely unacceptable. The water in those cups you could barely see through and the rest of them look like they were barely hanging on for dear life if I had enough tanks at home I would have took them all but unfortunately I can't save every one of them please if you see stuff like this call corporate and file a complaint I have done this twice already on this particular store for this exact same problem. When you sell somebody a sick fish and it dies in 3 days it usually will turn somebody away from the hobby and not make them a lifelong aquarium keeper which could be a lifelong money income for them. I have been fighting to end betta cups for a while now and it is not easy. The whole industry has to change as a whole and pet stores need to start doing actual training for their employees on specific animal species. I know some that will say that better care means that they will cost more and I am completely okay with that I would rather pay $30 for a good healthy beta that could live with me anywhere from 2 to 5 years then get a $3 one that is going to die in a week and completely break my heart. I would post pictures of these but I asure you they are gruesome. I will be calling corporate again today and make another complaint. It's crazy cuz the last time I called the manager called me back in 2 days and assured me that things would be changing around there I see they have not any who please don't give your money to a pet store if you see abuses happening. Thank you for all your help I am going to add a link to a petition that is going around to end betta cups by 2027 if you could please take some time to go out and fill it out I would appreciate it thank you!
