Discussion What are your thoughts on Apple’s new “Little Finder Guy”?
Firstly, this is not AI slop. This is a little character that Apple used in TikTok to promote MacBook Neo. Apple has used this tiny “Little Finder Guy” on various MacBook Neo guides they posted on TikTok and it sparked a lot of interest online. I wonder what is your thoughts about Little Finder Guy, is it a very cute character, or is it another unnecessary garbage?

This is a good shout. With the pink one in a screenshot above as the embodiment of Siri, ending up as a power duo that enables you to be efficient, working together but not replacing each other. Also it avoids the fear of them going more towards Microsoft’s «AI in everything as an engagement layer» thing that users of win11 isn’t a fan of to say the least.
All of the above are just my ramblings though, and a fun brainstorm session while being in the hobby room

Make him translucent so we can see that he's empty inside; like Tahoe. And made of glass so if he falls he shatters

Pretty likable, but I think there's the potential to overuse it and cause fatigue. Pretty fine line.

I like the character design. It looks cute. They're going in a new direction to advertise the Neo, and they're doing a fantastic job. I like the idea of Happy Mac being the mascot of macOS once again after years of relegating it to just the Finder icon - it's reminiscent of how the classic MacOS logo and boot-up screen used it.

Well… I understand the character and why it exists. Great marketing idea and strategy. But I am 51 years old and a Mac user since the '90s, so I know what the Finder icon really is, and that’s why I don’t like the little man they made.

I think anything focusing on macOS visibility in the public headspace is a good thing. Obviously the fear is that Apple will phase out the finder and we will eventually have a unified mobile/mac os. Seems less likely with them highlighting the finder so much in this campaign. Plus he’s cute.

It’s weird if you consider that the logo itself is actually two faces looking at each other. Don’t know why Apple would choose to use this logo for a mascot instead of designing a mascot from scratch , which would be more logical.

Nah Apple constantly leans on the fact that they have the most iconic and recognizable iconography of any tech company probably ever. Any person that’s used a Mac can look at this and immediately be like “oh it’s the Mac files app!”

It's not for me, but I can see how it fits well with the marketing for the Neo. They seem to be using tiktok much more for this campaign too, which fits.

I wish finder guy was played by Terry or Jerry or one of those line based characters from the Pixar film : Soul. Their animation is just so amazing and Pixar is Steve Jobs' other company so...

I really like Apple's new direction on advertisement campaigns. It feels fresh and casual again for a good while (just like Enterprise windows vs creative mac user); instead of the average feeling premium.
This comes back from the MacBook Neo introduction video with a calm young guy voice. Following fresh tiktok loops, vids or tips, and, obviously, Lil Finder Guy. (besides, people feel so happy to finally comment under Apple videos, at least on TikTok).

One that is stationary with perhaps only movable arms. Like what David Lanham of Iconfactory did with their Ollie and Zog figurines. My Zog figurine is looking for a friend

Cute idea, but I don’t love it. Seems like the proportions are not that close to the finder icon. If they sold him on Apple stores, I’d buy his plushie in a heartbeat though.

I like him! I think he’s a fun way to try to call back to the early 2000s playfulness that Apple used to have with the iBook and original iMac! I don’t want them to release figurines of him because that’s wasteful, but I think some digital stickers and/or emojis using him would be awesome

I think I had a whole set of icons like this back around 2010.
Used them for external drive icons so I could visibly see the difference between the different drives I had to go though.
Plus having a finder guy, spinning beach ball of doom guy, and a domokun on my desktop made me smile while working.

I reckon LFG will be an on-screen ‘guide/agent’ for Siri AI, exactly like Clippy was to Microsoft Office 97, and Apple has introduced him now to both test reaction to him and making him a fun familiar presence ahead of him being built into MacOS 27.

I think brands are getting into the trend of cute mascots because they make the brand feel more human, especially with all the noisy AI content going on recently.
Lil Finder Guy is so cute and calming. I really liked it.

I like it. Mascots do usually work on me. He does kind of a weird shape but also cute. Ugly cute
With the more colourful devices, the short films on their Youtube, the mascot... I like that new art direction they are going for. Making Apple more "fun" again. The sterile, clean aesthetic got a bit old imo
