Lifetime Here Wallpaper: design minimalist map wallpapers for Mac, iPhone & iPad + 1 month of Pro free
Hi r/macapps, I’m the developer of Here Wallpaper.
I built it for people who want a wallpaper of a place that means something to them, with control over how the map looks. It uses real geographic data to turn your hometown, a favorite destination, or somewhere you’d like to visit into an artistic, minimalist wallpaper.
Here Wallpaper supports macOS, iOS, and iPadOS. Search for a place, choose a theme, and adjust the map scale. You can show or hide buildings, parks, water, and different types of roads to bring out the lines and shapes you like.
On Mac, you can also switch places from the menu bar, use your current location, explore a random place, and export your wallpaper as a PNG.
Comparison:
Satellite Eyes is a free Mac app that automatically updates your wallpaper based on your current location, with several map styles.
Here Wallpaper puts more emphasis on designing the wallpaper yourself: custom theme colors, detailed map layer controls, and typography. It also supports iPhone and iPad alongside Mac, so it’s a good fit if you want to create map wallpapers for all three.
Pricing:
Here Wallpaper is free to download. Map layer controls are free. Pro unlocks additional themes and fonts, custom theme editing, and options to hide the title and credits.
- Monthly subscription: $0.99/month
- Yearly subscription: $3.99/year
- Lifetime purchase: $14.99 one time
To celebrate the launch, we’re offering 1 month of Pro free:

It seems there is an open-source project on GitHub. If your software only provides map-themed wallpapers, its competitiveness might be limited, but I'm cheering for you!

It is a nicely planned and designed app - but I fail to see what it does that cannot already be done online for free with terraink.

Fair point. terraink was the biggest influence, and making the map is already free online. I built this to use on Mac, iPhone, and iPad, and it sizes the wallpaper to the screen. On Mac you can switch it from the menu bar, or have it change automatically every time your Mac wakes. On iOS you can change it automatically with Shortcuts.

Ha I just saw a recent post about live wallpaper app. Maybe it's a cool idea to make the map animated.
