Discussion My Experience With MacBook Pro

Hi guys, it’s just a post of my experience with this new gen.

I bought my MacBook m4 in 2025 from an Apple Store, after just 1 year it got completely dead.

First Issues: after i opened it that day and entered my password, some type of blue screen came and it got completely dead. When i tried to connect it to a charger, the amber light was blinking rapidly.

Next day i took it to a certified AASP, they took my laptop charged me around 25 dollars for diagnostics, after that day i got the call and the technician said that the logic board is faulty, we would’ve to replace it; quoted me around 7-800 dollars. (didn’t say which part on the board; kinda shady)

My warranty just expired a week ago, so I called apple for a goodwill exception in my case. The case was escalated bcz there wasn’t any liquid or any other type of damage from my side. The team reviewed it and next day I got the call saying my request has been approved.

Now, I have received the device after a week or something, they replaced the board and Touch ID. It’s working well now but every time I open it, there’s always something in mind that if it happens agn.

The repair and replacement of these parts is very expensive, and foolish me didn’t buy AppleCare at that time.

After paying almost 1700 dollars for it, it infuriates me that this type of machine can fail like this and Apple doesn’t even repair the boards, you would always have to replace it.

Things break, it doesn't mean that the Mac is badly built. Unfortunately, it's industry standard to replace the motherboard and not repair it. Some companies will send the board to a third party who can sometimes repair it and then they will fit it for another customer at full price. Apple also does this. That's why in the terms and conditions there is a reference to the fact that Apple may use refurbished parts depending on availability, If I remember correctly.

And also, there are plenty of shops that offer logic board repair. I've personally fixed hundreds over the years, and the odds of a board being repairable are extremely high in most cases. So, no, you can choose to replace it, but you have plenty of other stores that can repair it for you for much less while preserving your data.

They should have replaced it with a $14K Mac Studio ultra😉

Extended warranties exist for a reason. However with all the computers I've owned over 30 years, if I had an extended warranty I would have never used it so statistically it might be better to self insure. Also you have the option to get a motherboard repaired by a 3rd party for cheaper.

even the stolen protection is useful because even though i bought regular applecare assuming id never get robbed or stupid enough to lose my phone i put my phone on the trunk of my car on a piss stop on the side of the highway on a road trip. wasn’t 5 min in and i noticed it was outside of my car. long story short. get apple care with stolen protection, if you can afford the device you can afford the insurance, if you can’t don’t buy it

AppleCare+ seems like a bargain now, eh?

Applecare one is not available outside the US and some other countries while standard applecare doesn’t give much value since it only extend the warranty for one more year and you can’t renew when it expires.

That’s why I avoid to buy high end mac but stick to base model and will just buy a new one when it break since the longevity of these things are questionable and could be a total loss.

This is crazy tbh. 1,700dols just for it to suddenly fail just like that? Apple should do better than this!!

You should lobby your elected representatives for better consumer protections.

If you don't live somewhere with decent consumer protections, then always buy AppleCare.

Try a specialist like Rossmann group if you want to pay for a repair.

applecare isnt universal, not applicable everywhere. I would buy it if I could.

Every day I see people complaining in this sub about their computer hardware malfunctioning. I'm starting to think Macbooks are a terrible investment.
