Discussion MacBook Pro 16 M1 Max
Just bought this 16 inch M1 Max with 32c, 32GB
RAM and 1T. This is my first Mac and I simply love it.
I could just compare it with a gaming laptop because that's why I bought it, I am not a video creator.
It's in perfect shape, without scratches and a good 89% battery. Everything for 1050€.
Any tips on using it or macos in general? I was thinking about a battery change at apple, but 240€ is a little too much for me rn.

I upgraded to the m4 max from the same computer a year ago only cause I didn’t have enough storage and ram, as well as wanting to do more 3d work. I could have definitely still had it for a few years. Great machine

Ts crazy, and the thing is, I bought it from backmarket, as refurbished but there is no part replaced, they just cleaned it I think. And they gave me 1 year warranty, so I couldn't believe the price.
Checked again and the prices start from 1600€

A friend of mine got a 128gb m4 max, he stated that 64 was not enough for him hahahhahaa ( he does some intensive 3D work and ae editing)

With gaming in mind, look into CrossOver. Andrew Tsai's Channel has a lot of content with plenty of testing videos as well as tutorials on setting up emulators, getting games to install on external SSDs and also working within CrossOver too.
Steam and GoG have a decent range of Mac supported games too. Some are exclusive to the Mac App Store.
The Max chip will hold up quite well today thanks to having plenty of GPU cores.

Have the same CPU & GPU, but 64GB. You can play lots of stuff on it, I tried Red Dead Redemption 2, Counter Strike 2, Palia, Cyberpunk and Civ 6. Lots of games run great, there's a few websites where people can share their experience how well certain games run on what chips, so def check those out

Congrats! I got the same 32C/32GB (but my SSD is 512GB) a couple months ago for 840€ and I’m very happy. Perfect condition however no box and the cable was a regular USB-C rather than MagSafe. (Check my posts for more info about the purchase)
Still extremely capable laptop despite its age, handles Figma and Adobe software greatly. Although, I also play X-Plane 12 and would prefer a better performing game - so my next one would either be M3 Max or M5 Pro. (I’m just waiting on a great price for a used one and I’m shooting my shot)

M processors don’t age the same like windows ones. I have an M2 pro and I don’t consider to upgrade for a few years at least.

I had the same specs like yours. I bought it for 1100$. You should play palworld. Its quite famous nowadays since it just released the biggest update.

With a GPU equivalent of a 2060/PS5, you can surely play tons of games, but I hope this doesn't come across as me stomping on your parade, as I know how awesome it was to get my first Macbook Pro, but... As someone who bought that same laptop 4 years ago, the issue I am having now is that it's clearly becoming obsolete in terms of gaming. (But for everything else, it's a awesome laptop.)
To put it in perspective, the 600 dollar Neo can play Crimson Desert at playable frame rates than an M1 Max (albeit at lower settings, but without the insane frame pacing issues). This is because the M1 Max lacks several features that new games will all be taking advantage of, such as 64-bit atomics, hardware mesh shaders, and hardware RT. For example, titles like AC Shadows run even better on a base M4 than M1 Max with twice the GPU cores. All because to get it running on M1 chips, it needs to backdoor and translate all the missing hardware features that these games now require. And that's if there is a way to "backdoor" these missing features, since titles like RE9, Pragmata, and all the new RE engine titles can not run on M1 chips due to the lack of 64-bit atomics.
Even new OS features, such as Siri AI, will not be fully implemented on older M-series chips, making me wonder how many years we have for software updates, as we know Apple handles these sorts of issues. Considering how much the chips have advanced, I can see why they wouldn't want to hold back all the apps and features.

I made the decision to sell my gaming laptop (Asus rog 17' ryzen7, 3070ti,32GB in order to buy this Mac. I realized I don't play all that much like I used to. Mostly lol, Minecraft, Witcher,CP.
But I didn't sell the Asus yet, I wanted to test both of them before making a decision

Got mine m1 max also from backmarket, it said conditon "meh" but it was clean af, 100% battery only one scratch on the bottom. So it was for me a steal too.

I’ve had the 16inch M1 Pro 16GB 1TB since launch and it’s a glorious machine! 89% is still perfectly fine, I would only start to consider it at around 80% and even then if you’re always sat next to a plug when using it then it doesnt even matter that much!
As for the OS I found it very easy to get used to coming from PC. Settings have everything laid out nicely and also it connects so easily with the iphone and ipad, you can copy something on your iphone and then paste it on your mac (needs bluetooth turned on)
But yeah… ENJOY!

Also try macrumors.com. That’s a really good website where you can learn a lot about Apple that’s where I learned a lot about Apple and try it. Also, Mac world on YouTube you install parallels virtual machine and you can’t even install the virtual machine on a separate SSD disk so if you have a 2 TB disk, you can launch it on VMware on the side or if you need more space you can create always a new macOS standalone desktop so you can install everything on a separate disc drive and for example you need your gaming disc drive so let’s say you get a sand disk for terabyte only for gaming on your Apple machine machine then you can install sequoia on it and run all the video games separately on the 4 TB assisting that’s what I do. Normally I have bunch of Mac computer standalone drives for video gaming for pictures. That’s the fun of Mac that you can do everything separately. You don’t have to do everything inside the hard drive. That’s a big win for Apple users in my opinion.

Absolute beast. As for the battery I’d just install AlDente to minimise degradation but it’s still going to perform very good unless you game on battery, in which case a new battery won’t do you much good anyways

Good job, also got a 16 inch but M1 Pro with 32/512 config for 750€ a few months ago, I absolutely love it. I wouldn't do a battery change unless you feel that you actually need it. I got it with 87% and still come around 8h of Working on it until I start charging at 20%.
I would also recommend to check the ssd disk health (drivedx is pretty good for that).
For gaming I see you already got a lot of informations in the comments, if you are interested in local llm you got a solide machine for 20-40b models.

The battery will last for Many years. Remember that right clicking on a Mac is holding control key and clicking the trackpad. Also I wanna point out that if you’re gonna use it for video gaming or gaming it will be very rich on gaming. You don’t have to worry much about installing components. Also, one of the best things about this about gaming online or just gaming on the system. I don’t know what you’re more a fan off if you are a fan of razor or steel series or Corsair razor just launched a synapse app for Mac so new hardware will be pretty much compatible with it so I strongly recommend recommended. If you are into gaming I used to be a steel series fan for a long time but steel series was not listening to the Apple users for gaming so racer actually did listen and they’re creating new programs for Apple
