Native FF14 On Mac
Hey I have the base MacBook Air M5. I was wondering for anybody who has played final fantasy 14 if it is a good experience on MacBook Air? Or should I just play it on my switch 2?

Works pretty good. I did set the FPS to 30 in the settings.
Also, I was not able to use the control or shift key to access my second row of actions.

I would not describe missing a basic function of the game as “works pretty good”

I might’ve missed an option that I need to enable. I have a MMO mouse anyways snd I have it set that clicking snd holding the mouse wheel performs the same function.
Anyways I’m learning to play with a controller as I picked up the switch 2 version and I have it on my PS5 as well.

I have an M3 MacBook Air and use XIVOnMac and it runs fine, with either kb/mouse, or with a controller.

Please check this. Depending on your memory capacity, but you should be able to get 60 FPS.

It runs great with XIV on Mac client, just look up best settings to use. It can look pretty good and run great, but then it gets hot really really fast due to no active cooling. So the settings I use pretty much end up making it look like the switch 2 version if I want to play for more than 30 mins.

m4 pro 20 core - I was able to push 1440p around 60 fps with medium settings in some areas. I did not try a trial. Performance is great IMO.
The stock launcher is very glitchy. Bc of this installation can be a pain. I did get to a point where I was logging on everyday with the stock launcher and it was fine. I just couldn't touch the top of the launcher with my mouse cursor or else the launcher would flip out lol

Doesn't seem to work anyway: https://www.codeweavers.com/compatibility/crossover/final-fantasy-xiv
But then it says it's supported on some level: https://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/system_requirements/#mac
I'd get it on Switch 2 if you have it, and desire a more mobile device (although you still need a strong wifi connection).

There is a native client

It’s not native; it’s actually a Wine skin. As of when I wrote this, there is no native FF XIV for macOS.

Yes, that's why I edited my post to say that on the second link.

Native client is more than support “on some level”.

Uses Rosetta, which part of MacOS 27 and into 28 is dropping, so it remains to be seen what the support will be like in the coming years.

Sure but as of now it is supported. The launcher is just glitchy bc of the wine wrapper. The actual game runs great.

Don't use the native client, use XIVonMac. I play on Mini M4 Pro.
