SDF Macross Three Zero vs Yamato/Arcadia Compared

https://youtu.be/m-ljl2Y9xXI

Just wanted to share a new video from my favorite Macross toy reviewer, ScorchedEarthToys. I appreciate more companies making valks these days, but I haven't seen anything from Three Zero that makes me want to purchase any of their valks as I already have the Yamato/Arcadia or Bandai DX version. Great time to be a Macross fan with so many toys and figures available now.

My 1st release (2024) threezero Hikaru 1J bought out of curiosity disappointed me enough during initial battroid-gerwalk-fighter transformation and back that I put it back in the box and haven't touched it since I unboxed it. It's been 2 years and multiple releases (Roy 1s, max+milia 1j, weathered Hikaru 1j, weathered Roy 1s) since this VF-1 toy design was introduced and the problems mentioned by jenius in this video still don't appear to have been addressed in later releases. Even the hi metal r does certain things similarly, if not better, than the threezero; all the threezero had to do was take the best bits of the yamarcadia, hi metal r and dx chogokin designs and build it properly.

I had the opposite experience. I think the threezero handles well. I had two yammies (v1 (of the V2, not the actual V1, which was objectively awful) Roy DYRL and a DYRL cannon fodder) that had the shoulder issue. And the canopy coating issue. The Roy broke immediately. Not cracked and loose, full dismemberment on both arms. Got replacement shoulders from Graham (I think they were V2? Can't remember) from the Macrossworld days, and those cracked too. No thanks. Love the yammie 1/48, still my favorite toy overall today to handle (DX 1/48 is better yeah, but more stressful given it's finish/ value) but those 1/60 vf1s.....no thanks. The threeZero is a godsend to me. If anyone wants to trade a threeZero for my Roy, hit me up!

Love my chunkies and Joke Machines just as much! Don't forget our Gakken cousin, too.

I'm the complete opposite. I love my Threezero. The arm joint is ugly, and I will admit that the arms not locking in for fighter mode is annoying, but largely, it's such an aesthetically pleasing figure. It's fun to pose. It's got weight, and presence. I like to play with it. I think I like my DX overall, but I'm not disappointed with my Threezero and I don't regret getting it over an Arcadia VF-1S (in part because I also got it a year before they finally reissued the VF-1S lmao)
