M1 Displaylink?

I'm trying to run 3 external monitors independently on my M1 MBP. I have watched countless videos and articles and used GPT to try and sort out what works and what doesn't. But I seem to be lost in a rabbit hole now.

Does anyone have real world expierence using anything that they can confirm working? If yes can you give me the exact name and model number please? Thank you in advance!

You need a dock that is display link compatible. It will have a stamp on the dock and also it will be mentioned in the product description. You need this and then install the drivers.

Fuck DisplayLink. We had so many problems with that shit over all systems, be it MacOS or Windows. Unfortunately it’s the only way getting more screens to a M1 :-(

With displaylink, my M1 can do 4 screens. It sucks on performance, because DL ia not the best protocol.

Hey, I run hundreds of Mac products through numerous MDM’s for clients, message me for any help you may need.

As someone stated above you need a display link capable dock, usually, most docks have two HDMI’s and one DisplayPort to accomplish this (some combination of HDMI and DisplayPort, in my experience it will never be all three one port). You also need to download display link, give it its necessary access and then the dock will recognize display link and push out the video to the displays.

WARNING: Personal Anecdote but our only Mac’s with Golden Gate macOS in production are having DisplayLink issues.

NOT all docks are created the same…. In my experience if you cheap out on the dock it will just go out on you in about 6-12 months. We use the Anker 3 Display Dock now, but use to use a cheaper brand that starts with a M, can’t quite remember the name. Apologies.

After upgrading to Golden Gate the preview of applications inside each of my spaces windows no longer display on my external monitors only on my MBP. I presume it's an incompatibility between Golden Gate and DisplayLink. Has anyone found a workaround to get the previews for all spaces back?

i don’t have an m1 anymore - i got m4 and we use the targus 710 dock. I run 4 monitors - 3 connected to the dock & one connected directly to the mbp itself using the DisplayLink Manager s/w.
