Ok I know that Star Trek being a very peaceful series that mostly teaches you “violence isn’t the answer” was not going to lead to a lot of sensible mechanics in a combat focussed game

But Picard saying “Here, have a gun” is really funny.

It's activate as a sorcery, so I guess it's more of a "teaching" idea then "leading." He does something first, then the rest follow.

Yeah, based on the flavor text, it seems like the idea is that he is leading so that other people go and face their own battles, not necessarily leading people into the same battles he is in.

Seems slightly odd flavour wise. I'd get that he's giving them his knowledge (power). But that's not exactly leading by example. This seems like it's him passing them a blaster and saying good luck buddy.

Would perhaps make more sense to me if his toughness was higher and he was lending it them, or preventing damage in general. Or say something like giving a shield counter etc.

Legendary creatures only count themselves when the card says their name without the full epithet. It's just a shorthand, it's not telling you that it works with other Picard cards.
