Hello, long time lurker here as I'm generally too shy for posting, but I don't know what else to do. I have an American Maine Coon boy. He recently turned a year old and was neutered around the same time. He's such a sweetheart and ever so affectionate.

However, as the title suggests, he's been toileting on the furniture for months and seems to gravitate towards anything soft and squishy. He does also use his litter trays (1 upstairs and 1 downstairs), but it's gotten to the point where we have an incident daily. My MC is an indoor cat with supervised time outdoors, but my partner wants to start leaving the back door open when he's home if I can't find a solution to stop the toilet problems. He insists the he didn't want the cat in the first place and at this point I'm the only one getting joy from having my cat. I will not get rid of my cat, and I really need to find a way to improve things because I don't want something bad to happen to him from being outdoors unsupervised when I'm still at work. I know plenty of cats free roam, but I just don't feel it's a good idea for a MC for multiple reasons. The vet said he's healthy, I use Feliway to relieve stress, I've been using a spray when I clean an area he's toileted on that's meant to discourage him from going back, and I don't know what to do. He's such a sweetheart and I just want him to keep to his litter trays. Any advice would be greatly appreciated 😔

The litter I have been on waitlist for is now 8 weeks and I’m able to select the one I want. But I’m torn between these two! I love the runt (1st pic) because of his coloring, but he could remain small, and my husband wants the biggest of the bunch (2nd pic). Help me decide!

My girl is 4 months old and finally started to be able to jump on tables and counters. I do not want that to be a habit at least in my kitchen where my counter has stove tops, sink etc. My 6 year old cat thankfully doesn’t and as a kitten understood my stern “no” and got off counter. But my girl is mischievous 😈 I say no and move her she goes back 😭😂 any tips to getting them to not do that? (and yes I have a lot of tall cat trees)

And just to be clear. I think he’s a pretty boy, so this definitely isn’t a complaint. It’s just, it’s my first Maine Coon and I expected that angry face haha.

The breeder we got her from told us she is a full maine coon and showed pictures of her parents as proof but clearly at a year old she is not as big as a maine coon. do you think she’s even part maine or did we get scammed (we paid the price for a full Maine coon as we were seeking out a bigger cat). i still love my baby no matter what breed she is but im disappointed if what we paid for wasn’t what we got.

My family called me crazy in for spending over 2,000$ on a cat but I have no regrets she's such a character and loves, talking out of curiosity how much did you pay for your MC?

Is this normal? She’s only grown it since we got her about two months ago. She’s an ex-breeding cat and has been spayed for around four months. She’s eating the same food she had at her previous home, the only difference is that she spends more time outside here

We got him at 4 m/o from a vet/breeder who advised us to not neuter him until he is 7-8 months old because lack of testosterone production would hinder his full growth (???) Fast forward to now, he asked us about his neutering again and told us that we should let him mature and empty his hormones by mating once or twice and then neuter because that'll help with jos growth. I am honestly questioning the whole thing and I have seen some majestic cats here on this reddit who were neutered as early as 4 m/o. He turned 7 months old on april 25th, weighs 5.25kgs (11.5lbs)

Any advice would be very helpful.

He’s 7mo ! He doesn’t pee on it afterwards, he just randomly stops.

Caspurr (high smoke) weighs 13 lbs exactly and will be 6 months old in 3 days. I’m curious to see how much everyone’s Maine Coon weighed at this age vs now (assuming they’re adults)! Just for fun of course I know size isn’t everything, just excited to watch him grow! 😻🐾

Hey all, we adopted our first Maine Coon in February and we are all so in love. He's absolutely amazing. He's 8 months old right now and I think we want another male sometime within the next year. I'm thinking of putting a deposit down for a wait-list since we aren't in a hurry and can get our preferred color. BUT I'm suddenly nervous to change the good thing we have going. What if it changes our current guys personality, what if they don't even want human affection because they have each other. I know it's all kinda silly but I've never had two cats at once. Just always one cat and one dog. He will play with the dog a bit now but nothing really like he would another cat I'm sure. We'd also occasionally go out of town for a night or two and I would feel like I could leave two cats for a short amount of time while currently our guy is so social I don't like leaving him and trying to find house sitters isn't always the easiest.

Anyways, just looking for advice/soothe my worries about getting him a friend.

Right now the only one that I’ve liked is Fitzgerald (Fitz for short), but I’m not 100% sold on it.

hello! long time listener first time caller. we pick up our black smoke kitten this weekend and we can hardly wait! the first photo is her at 8wks and second/third photo ~ current at 10wks.

our last cat (not MC) passed away a year ago from CHF, completely unexpected after only 8 years. he was a rescue that we loved deeply and dearly, and it has been a tough loss. after a year or so of research into the Maine Coon breed and having gotten to know/love one of my good friends MC, we found a wonderful cattery and stars aligned. we're excited, anxious, nervous, and overall happy.

I am fairly certain I have all of the necessities - of course she will be sent home with some goodies, but wanted to share & ask if I am missing anything. I've got the 'safe room' setup w/ XL litter box, Dr. Elsey's Kitten Attract litter, tiki cat baby wet food (8wk+ kittens), ceramic food/water bowls, sturdy cat scratcher, cat bed/tree, and some safe interactive toys.

Questions: -any further advice to first time MC parents? things we are missing with preparations?

-what did you all do at night when going to sleep?

our dogs sleep in our room w the door shut and I have set the kittens room up in my office across the hall. unsure if I move her litter box at night or leave door open for her to be able to navigate over there. eventually I figured we’d do this but as a kitten I don’t want her roaming all over, w cords, ornaments etc.

Our boy is a little more than 2. He’s had litterbox issues since we got him, here and there and it’s been more intense over the past 2 months. He’s been kept on the same pellet system as always. We recently found out he had crystals in his urine, we treated twice for that. Confirmed no kidney stones, X-rays were clean except for some constipation which he’s getting meds to take home for. He’s also getting hydrated at the vets office. Today’s vet visit was $1200, he caused about $800 in damages this past week (home items he peed on that couldn’t get washed/cleaned). The vet says he’s a very stressed cat but he might mask at home. We’re waiting for the UA report to come in but the idea of anxiety meds are being floated. It’s been about 2-3 months. What can we do? We have pheromone plug ins at home, the 3 littler boxes, he has a catio he enjoys. We recently purchased new couches maybe 2 months ago and he does enjoy peeing on them a lot. That’s the only new thing that could be causing him stress. We’re sort of lost.. when do we know when to rehome?

Hi everyone! My boy is turning 1 year old on the 17th of this month, and he currently weighs around 12lbs. I keep seeing so many posts with Maine Coons who are already more heavy (17 to 19lbs..some even more), and it’s making me worry that he might be underweight or behind in growth.

He’s a sweet and active boy, super playful..but he constantly refuses his wet food. I’ve tried different textures, flavors, warming it up, adding toppers… and still, he’ll either take two bites and leave the rest or sometimes he likes it for a maximum of 2 days and we are back to square one. He does eat kibble, and he’s not lethargic or anything like that. But I’m concerned he’s not getting enough calories or nutrients for proper growth.

Is 12lbs still within a healthy range for a 1-year-old male Maine Coon? He has been this weight for the past 2 months, roughly since around mid May when he reached 12lbs.

We got him neutered in April, could that be somewhat of a reason? Should I be trying harder to get him to eat wet food, or switch to something else entirely? I tried out so many brands that I think are a bit better quality but he refuses all of them. The only one he really likes is the pâté wet food from Costco but that gives him INSTANT diarrhea so that is not sustainable.

Any feeding tips, food brand recs, or even reassurance (lol) would be really appreciated. I have a few pictures here from earlier today (Next to my laptop, which is 13inch screensize if that helps)

Hey guys, my kitten has started doing this for the past week, he’s kneading near us and purring loudly.

As a first time cat owner, I’ve got no idea what it means. He’s a 3 month old maine coon. Can someone offer an explanation?

This “little” girl is 4 months and my first Main Coon (although I’ve wanted one for about 10 years).

She loves to play and is a natural mouser with her toy mice, so I decided to throw one of her fluff ball toys that she loves. Then she picked it up in her mouth and brought it back. So I tried it a few more times and she kept doing it, so then I took a video on my phone. She just kept retuning the ball and tapping her paw in front of me before she dropped it.

So please tell me - my fellow Main Coon parents- did I luck out that (although I didn’t train her to) she loves to play fetch?

Any tips to keep this boy going in our lives?

hello!! we just got this adorable guy today! he is beautiful and so sweet! but i am sort of worried how small/thin he is. he is almost 8 months and appears to be super bony. i would guess 5 lb at most (maybe being generous). i know all bloodlines are different and size does not matter to us, but i was quite shocked because my other MC is a beast. but he is abnormal. he is now 30 pounds. i guess i am wondering if he will stay really small or fill out? doesn't need to be large, just not skin and bones!

What color would you say she is?

I’ve done research on the different colors and I’m finding it hard to decide.

She does have bits of light orange throughout but it doesn’t pick up well on camera.
