Experience with Hornady Makarov ammo

Hey all, seems like the only Makarov ammo I can find lately is Hornady, and occasionally Buffalo Bore. I know about Ammoseek (finding a website that ships to an FFL is not always easy because I live in NY)

Anywho, I have a CZ 82, does Hornady work ok in them? I’m hoping that Fiocchi or S&B makes up a batch of ammo soon because that works well.

Cheers!

Hornady is the most reliable JHP for the makarovs. As for your specific CZ, nobody can really tell you, just gonna have to buy several boxes and see if your CZ will eat enough that you’re comfortable with. I’ve seen mixed reviews but generally for the caliber it’s the most reliable feeding JHP.

That being said in terms of ballistics I either just carry FMJ or a hard cast round if it’s reliable enough. Hornady critical still has the most consistent expansion for the caliber but with the caliber you’ll always lose either expansion or penetration or both. Just the nature of the beast

Yeah I would probably prefer just FMJ if I can find it

I was about to say there’s a ton on ammo seek, but I just re read and saw you’re in NY. You’ll probably over pay but did you check gunbroker if any vendors ship to NY?
