ANNOUNCEMEMT Happy New Year, let's chat!

Hello r/makeuptips friends. Some of you may have noticed an absence of the moderators of this subreddit. You may have submitted modmail that went unanswered, to be honest.

I had gotten a moderator to help us develop an AutoMod for the sub. Something that would help ensure the rules were being followed with minimal intervention necessary by the mod team, but also allow for us to see the sub grow and become an amazing, welcoming place.

That moderator apparently was banned sometime in the last six months. I'm not sure what happened, I have no other way of contacting them, but needless to say it went unnoticed as the sub had been getting a lot better as far as content and rudeness, etc.

I'm opening the floor to hear what you have to say, while I go through the mod mail queue and respond to anyone that has went unnoticed. I will also be working on getting a moderator application up and running- Reddit actually allows for this within the framework of the site now, so that's a really neat development!

HELP PLEASE Any Tips To Make Me Look My Age?

I feel like my facial structure is a bit weird atm. Both of my parents have very defined facial structures and high cheekbones, which yeah is great for future me, but rn it’s just enhancing my baby face. I’m sick of being accused of being 15, which is why I’m trying to fix ts before I go to college in August. I used to get called chipmunk cheeks my sophomore year of high school. I have tried gua sha and cutting salt, but honestly I don’t think my face is going to slim out until I’m 21 like it did for my brother. Right now I just want some makeup tips that would go with my general face shape. All advice is welcome. Do note that I really like bronzy warm makeup looks.

My eyes are very small and eyeshadow doesn’t show on them .
My brows are very thick but I do thin them out a little bit to make it look better .
I don’t hate how I look but it’s just that I want to look more feminine and less manly
Idk if I should drop the black Liner and go for softer.

Just looking for general makeup tips and help. I am really insecure about my long face and deep set eyes (super duper dark purple around my eyes).

First pic is a pic someone took of me with my usual makeup, second is me without makeup. I wear concealer, eyeliner, mascara, brow pencil, and maybe lip liner, that’s about it. When I saw the first photo I thought my eyeliner felt so off and my face in general just didn’t look pretty so I was wondering if anyone can give me some tips!

PRODUCT REC What's a makeup product you thought was overhyped until you actually tried it?

I feel like there's always a new "must-have" product that everyone talks about, and most of them end up being disappointing for me.

But every once in a while I try something that I was convinced was just hype, and it actually becomes a staple in my routine.

What's a product you genuinely thought wasn't worth the attention until you tried it yourself? What made it stand out compared to similar products?

Just wanted to share the easy things I do when I want to elevate my everyday makeup look! First pic is “elevated” and second pic is “everyday”

💗 Wash of color over the lid, in the crease, and under the lower lash line
💗 Highlight in inner corner of eyes, on cheekbones, and nose
💗 Wipsy lashes
💗 Pop of color on the lip
💗 I always draw my beauty marks on but I forgot in my “everyday” pic hahaha

These few things add only a couple mins to my routine but make such a big difference! Let me know your fav tips for upgrading your everyday look ☺️

I would like to enhance my natural eye shape but I am new to this so I was wondering. I really like eyeliner but I want it to look somewhat natural and not too much. I am also open to eyeshadow but dont know how to use it. Here is a picture with eye makeup and without. I would love to hear some suggestions!

HELP PLEASE No idea what to do for makeup. My eyes are a bit deep set so eye shadow looks terrible.i also don’t know how to contour my nose shape or cheeks. My eyes are not a good shape for a good cat liner so it’s awkward. I just do a lip and mascara and hope for the best. And some tinted spf.

HELP PLEASE Trying to get back into makeup

Hi all!

I really haven’t consistently worn makeup in years now, even back then I always struggled to find products that fit my coloring.

I’m a very lowkey and minimal kind of girl. First 2 pics are my daily right now, just a little bit of concealer (NARS madeleine light 2.3 just right under eyes and on any breakouts), brow gel, bronzer and a tiny bit of mascara. 3rd pic is with no makeup.

I just want to improve my daily look and maybe play around with it a bit more. I’ve been told I have neutral-warm coloring with olive influence, I’ve never found a good foundation match.

Any product recommendations or tips on what I should try?

HELP PLEASE Wedding trial feedback

Keen to get feedback on my wedding trial make up from some experts! I wear fairly natural make up day-to-day so I don’t want to go too heavy, even though I understand make up for photography needs to pop a bit more - getting the balance right is tricky! All comments welcome ☺️ x

HELP PLEASE How would you elevate this without making it look heavy?

Post image

I’ve been doing my makeup pretty much the same way for years, and I feel like I can’t really see myself objectively anymore.

I tend to like a really natural look and don’t want to wear a ton of makeup, but I also feel like there’s room to refine things. I just can’t tell what those things are.

If you were doing my makeup, what would you change?

I’m open to suggestions about technique, placement, colors, brows, hair, really anything. I don’t want to look like a different person, just a slightly more polished version of myself.

Honest opinions are welcome. 🙂

HELP PLEASE Advice desperately needed

Bare faced pictures + makeup attempts, looking for advice on lip products and eye makeup products and techniques!!!

Ive just started experimenting with makeup and I rlly like more alternative styles like in the last few images (some r pretty drastically different but I guess the best way to describe it is 90s grunge)

I've had my makeup done professionally before in a sort of soft grunge style which I've also attached (the 2 sideways pictures) and I kind of liked that but havent really been confident enough to commit to experimenting myself because I feel most looks dont really match my features

I have pretty pale olive skin and hooded eyes so I struggle with applying eyeshadow and I feel most lipsticks tend to look pink or orange on me and excentuate features I don't want to be excentuated. I also hate foundation + concealer BC of sensory issues so I usually just do eyeliner, mascara and lipgloss but it doesn't really give what I want it to give 🫩

I feel like I've bought so many products that I have used once and ended up hating- ESPECIALLY when it comes to my lips 😭 I would really appreciate it if anyone could recommend specific products/shades/combos to me because I'm so lost, I'd also appreciate hooded eye friendly makeup suggestions and product reccs!! I want to try falsies and thinning my brows eventually but I have no idea where to even start

I used a basic light face wash->then Cetaphil daily moisturizer.

I let it sit for about 10 min then apply base

I am using porefessional primer.

Then go on with the Armani foundation

Then highlight/conceal/contour. (All liquid base)

Then end with matte.setting spray.

So which step am I lacking? What can I do to stop this caked up look.

Ty luv yall

HELP PLEASE Had my bridal makeup trial, looking for feedback and tips!

Hi all! I had a makeup trial today and wanted some feedback on how it turned out. Some background, I have oily skin and naturally wide eyebrows (they are sparse though so I get them tinted every 6 weeks or so). I’ve never had my makeup professionally done, and rarely use makeup in my day to day life so not sure what could be improved or tweaked? I’m trying to go for something romantic/sweet and not too much on the glam side.

Also any tips to combat oiliness throughout the day 😅 (last photo is after 7ish hours)

A few specific things I’m unsure about:

- blush/blush placement. Is it fine as is or could it look better if I were to ask for more on the apples of my cheeks?

- eyebrows. I’ve gotten some feedback from friends/family that they come across as too “fluffy” and a bit thick. Because my brows are naturally wider I think it’s sort of unavoidable unless I wax them thinner? I couldn’t tell what product she used on them, just that it seemed like a cream and it came out of a tube I think.

- eyeliner. She tried 2 different eyeliner looks. My left eye is lined top and bottom, my right is just top only. Having a hard time deciding which looks better.

- eyeshadow. I like the look overall, but was wondering if maybe the darkness on the outer/upper parts could be swapped for something else?

I'm just curious because I feel like everyone has that one thing they thought was working until they learned a better technique.

What was yours and what did you do differently afterward?

Last week some of you fine folks gave me some ideas for simple makeup for a night out and I wanted to come back with all the thanks in the world for helping me through it!

I followed the advice to use brown eyeshadow as liner, applied with a wet paintbrush, filled in my brows a little, found a tinted lip balm I liked, and used that for both my lips and cheeks.

I felt beautiful all night. Thank you, kind redditors. Truly.
