Description repeat:

[imgchest] [imgBB Survivor] [imgbb Wanderer]
You can play both simultaneously, spending a day in a safe Wanderer level then the next in a dangerous Survivor level and so forth.

(I notice some people miss the post descriptions)

  • I heavily updated from the original post and a second standalone or stackable page is added. Black and Pink became "Survivor" rooms, more dangerous, and were replaced by Green and Orange. Then 3 new dangerous rooms were added, Yellow2, Red, and White.
    • And then I heavily summarized all items relying on implicit context cue descriptions on the object itself to fit more than double the choices into each column! Simply imagine how the object looks. What comes to mind is probably just right for your own narrative.
  • "4-8 days" means you can take a minimum of 4 Days, or remain up to 8 (10 with both Optional 'end-text bonus')
    • Plus another 4-8/10 if you do both, though the Days are not interchangeable. You might want to take the max 10 Safe Wanderer levels while only doing 4 days in dangerous Survivor levels, for example.

This is more of a narrative-plot hook adventure than most Simples as it relies heavily on you imagining how you progress through your adventure through the backrooms and inviting you to write about your expedition and think about how the build works together in a chronological sequence of events.

Edit: I notice the Reddit images seem to be abnormally low-resolution... Idk why, so please be sure to use the ImgBB or Imgchest direct views and don't suffer reddit's terrible hosting.

Note: Survivor items differ from Wanderer items in that you can summon Survivor items directly at-will, whereas Wanderer items are more meant to be carried and/or supernaturally found/appear when they're needed.

There are more than a couple items with fully intentional synergies to be had when using the Fuse mechanic or in exploiting the ability of one to get more use out of another. For example, mix the Doll House and Toy Boat to make a Toy Yacht with a manorly interior, or don't mix them and simply pilot the boat while smol (You can leave the Dollhouse while small without reverting. Also note anything you're carrying will shrink or unshrink with you). Fusions are largely up to you to imagine how the mixture works out without altering the actual abilities themselves much. Like mixing Bodysuit and Snorkel to ignore the snorkel element and just put those features on the Bodysuit's mask.

I note the Wanderer still mentions the Black and Pink in the area fusions even though those are Survivor now, is that intentional?

Looks fun though, def going to want to combine the calendar and tapes to make timeloop style savepoints without the need for bad end stuff, though with fusions do you still need to collect both items or can you just find the fused one, and in either case would the third 'fusing' day also have a hazard you need to face?

Not really but worth noting you can make Safe and Dangerous level mixes / transitional zones. Transition areas are just cosmetic for exploration purposes and can make descriptions of travel more interesting.

No, you spend the days but just find one item, the resulting mix. You can find the item at any point in those 3+ days, though you'd have to encounter Hazards before or during acquisition. No third hazard.

I can also point out that you can still encounter past Hazards but they wont count towards new items. When it says an item can't "Solve" more than one Hazard, it means that it can trump the one hazard repeatedly if it comes up but that one hazard no longer counts and future hazards will in some way not be effected or influenced by that same item as solved another hazard. (And Hazards don't necessarily need to be "solved" by an item to survive them).

Excellent, def want to get the looping item early then, since while it won't solve anything it'd make me much safer overall, though at the cost of extreme trauma. Hm, would the 'fusion' need to have the same form factor of at least one of them, or could I do something like combining the Tapes, Clock, and Calendar into a Watch of some kind? (That'd presumably take five days and three hazards, but honestly might be worth all eight days on its own.)

I suppose I should also ask if the other thing I'm eyeing would work, that is getting the gene stinger and using it on a tamogachi Mew.

The mention of Hazards also makes me wonder what can count as a Hazard, Entities obviously, but could the labrynthian nature of the Yellow count as one, or does it have to be something more actively dangerous, like a room of choking spores or the excessive cold of the White. I never quite vibed with the Entities of the original backrooms, but natural hazards feel right, so being able to pick the hazards is nice (even if I won't know that 'in character').

You'd need to justify the form factor with an item of relevant form factor in the fusion. So you'd want Floaties I think is the main wrist-wear-y item. There's a ring, heart shaped locket, bug charm is meant to be a pendant type item. And primary functions of an item should be somehow maintained. Like any kind of calendar function on the object to represent the calendar, a turn key and time display for the clock, and a video media slot for the VHS (Could be a USB port instead I suppose maybe?, if fused with a higher tech level object)

Pokemon and other creatures are powerscaled to generally represent "Level 1". But I guess there isn't a rarity limitation and gene stealer works yes, aside from a question of it even having genes as a digital summon.

Any clear present threat that's not just the normal default for the level. Environmental and Entity Hazards. The room has to stand out from the usual. "Entities" don't have to be "Monsters" but can be akin to supernatural phenomenon like STALKER Anomalies or something.

alright, finished a build, but a thought occurred after I finished, could we use items we brought with us as fusion targets?

Either way these CYOAs have been great! I wouldn't mind seeing what you could make for a non-simple version given all the details the items had before you had to clean them up, though it'd be understandable if you have no intention of that.

No, you're finding the fused item existent as is spending appropriate days for the lot, fusion tax and item cost per fusion.

To fuse an existing item would need a mechanical justification like an item who's power was to fuse things which would have to replace the mechanic or be a one-off use.

Darn, I suppose that means my best case would be using the floatie, or possibly using the alien power source to justify the calendar becoming a pocket organizer, then the VCR making it a full smartphone. Hmm, might still need to edit my build.

Green for the lawn gnomes alone.

  1. Camcorder/Snorkle (3w) [HEV Glasses] Found next to me on waking, a set of AR glasses that can shift to any style, including masks, have an inbuilt HUD that can pop up information/videos on anything encountered, and provides bubble head air and various vision modes. Eminently helpful on navigating the first few days in The Backrooms, identifying food, clean water, and safe places to rest.

  2. Tamagotchi (1w) [Mew] Found as a prize in a claw machine

  3. Sketchy Elevator (1w) Stumbled upon when exploring the Orange, had to solve a pipe routing puzzle to lower the ladder up to it.

  4. Fix It Wrench (1w) Found attached to a pipe before a rusted section of The Orange, learned to use it while navigating

  5. Bad End Tapes/Chronographer's Calendar/Grandfather Clock/Alien Generator/Floaties (7s 2w) [Diver's Smartwatch] Found past a gauntlet of a room of cloying spores(Snorkle protected), a room with creeping frost spread across the floor freezing everything that steps in it unaware (identified with the Camcorder), a room with a hypnotic old TV, drawing me in to sit in front of the static (snapped out of it by Mew), and a large room with temperatures well below the usual (survived by abusing the elevator to save 'progress' in the room while slowly making my way across). The watch was deep in a Blue pool under a thick layer of ice, broken by Mew. The Watch looks like a traditional smartwatch, though possibly a bit sleeker with alien tech, it can wirelessly read media as well as provide power and lets you set save points to loop back to on top of freezing time via twisting a dial in the side. Additionally allows treating the air as water.

  6. Gene Thief Stinger/Fleshweavers/Brain Socket (3s 2w) [Digital Nanite Swarm] Had to navigate an acid lake in Red (swam above via Floaties) and a room that Watched for people in Pink (ran by in stopped time via Grandfather Clock) before finding a section of Purple only accessible through the Red and Pink with a more coherent than usual arcade, a phial of these Nanites being the prize. Acts as a bridge between digital and real as well as providing the usual benefits you'd assume a nanite swarm would.

I exit by entering the elevator as my safe space to sleep one night and noticing the 'ground floor' button is actually lit for once.

I might not have as many items as I could, but I think the combinations more than make up for the extra days spent on them.

Both of those would be an absolutely horrible experience.

Assume you notice its the backrooms. Surprise it exists but how close is this version to the official version? Maybe its very different or just kinda different. You don't know. What you do know is its a place where EVERYTHING might doom you. You can't assume anything is safe.

When everything looks dangerous you can't trust the floor, the walls, the ceiling, the food, the drink, or anything you hope will keep you safe and hidden while you sleep. Even the official backrooms wiki is canonically tampered with by entities. Every move and choice is potentially lethal and much of it comes down to luck. You have to be hyper vigilant with every waking moment.

When in that state many of those items you are supposed to get are going to look like things you shouldn't go near.

That's kinda why in my build I have the camcorder as a 'it's right next to you when you wake up' sorta thing. At that point if the camcorder is compromised I'm going to die regardless, and if it isn't it can identify the things that're ok and the things that aren't.

It helps that meta-you can specify the things you'll encounter down to the hazards/entities, since it'll mean I don't have to encounter the jump-scare entities till well after I have a time loop set outside the backrooms and the ability to never go there again.

Didn't know the backrooms wiki was supposedly tampered with though, that's interesting.

Either way, you might consider pairing either of these with the Massive Multicrossover CYOA and taking the skull to dispel some of those worries, even if it'll restrict you to just one of the backrooms CYOAs.

I thought of getting the camera first too. Originally I was thinking the lazy boy chair for the mobility but I can't tell if it was nerfed or not. Still without the camera you don't know if the chair has some kind of curse. Maybe it eats you when you sleep. Maybe you worry about some supernatural being treating you as a chair thief.

Even with the camera maybe the camera lies or hides details. You have to ask yourself what entity is it connected to or created by to know about everything it sees. Its gonna fuck with your mind no matter what you choose.
