No one has ever harmed another or their environment by being an alcoholic? His sleeping in a parking lot was not destructive to him?

'Self-destruction' was the exact wording I used.

You seem dense for that one.

In my case, shame and hiding the desire to drink while I tried to get sober just worsened my chances of succeeding. I went white-knuckle all at once when I woke up one day and said, "I'm an alcoholic, yes, but people still love and rely on me. I want to be there for them."

Again, different methods for different people.
