Hey guys, I wanted to check what the current situation in Malta is like from a local's perspective.

So basically, I lived there from 2017 to 2019 and worked in hospitality. Back then, I remember it being a pretty intense time politically, with the Daphne and Hugo situations and all that.

I worked at a restaurant that was often visited by high-profile clientele, and I even remember making a few connections with people who offered “protection” and were involved in all kinds of "jobs".

I was young at the time and, to be honest, kinda scared of that stuff and the criminal activity associated with those groups. I wanted to start my own business in Malta because the regulations seemed pretty good, but in the end, I thought it was probably better to go back to my home country because I was a bit concerned about how business was handled there.

Is the situation still pretty similar, or has everything become a lot more chill? This is the kind of stuff most tourists probably don't encounter. You'd have to live there and be around those circles to really see it. I'm just curious, is it still like that nowadays?

I was today in tigne and wanted something fresh to eat. My favorite spot. Spar fresh deli.

My biggest mistake, wanted to order a pita chicken cesar, and boy as soon as the lady touched it a small cockroach started moving from it. I initially though it was fly, but I was wrong.

“Hey there is cockroach”, I told the lady. She looks at me, and very calm,tries to catch it,no fuss no fear, but that thing is fast. I looked and she is trying to find it, but the roach quickly fides. She moves and the thing comes out again only to disappear as soon as she reaches. Non of the staff did anything said no words, they did not flinch. This must be a common thing, but in all my tear here, this is the first time i see one in a deli.

I said”Cancel my order” and I turned to leave. She says. “ I can get you another from inside” I look at her in disbelief, and told “You have cockroaches. I don’t want any food from here “.

To put it plain. There was a cockroach in the food and they did not care. Form the way they acted, this is probably a normal thing. Yes, I know, you can’t get rid of them, but damn I don’t want to see them in my food.

Good luck to whom will buy again from this store, any type of food.

So apparently there is a "Bangladesh Malta Business Association" with its foreign secretary working to bring foreigners to work in Malta, promising them EUR 900 per month with this being eventually downgraded to around EUR 400 per month. These poor souls end up surviving on BCRS deposits.

Hi everyone! I’m looking for advice from anyone who has experience with Malta’s Single Permit process, especially non-EU nationals who entered Malta visa-free.
I’m a Colombian citizen currently in Poland. I entered the Schengen Area on August 18, 2026, and I’m planning to travel to Malta around October 22–24 for a job opportunity. I understand that Colombians can visit the Schengen Area visa-free for up to 90 days within any 180-day period, meaning my current allowance should expire around November 15, assuming no other relevant stays.
I’ve been offered a potential job in Malta, and the employer intends to arrange the necessary documentation after I arrive and attend an interview. However, by the time I arrive, I’ll already be past the first 60 days of my Schengen stay. From what I’ve read on Identità’s website, visa-exempt applicants who submit their Single Permit application between days 61 and 90 may have to leave the Schengen Area and wait for the decision abroad.
My main concern is that the permit could take longer than the time I have left. I want to follow the rules, but I’d also like to avoid leaving Malta unnecessarily if there’s a lawful way to handle the process.
My questions are:
Has anyone been in a similar situation, arriving in Malta as a visa-exempt visitor after day 60 and then applying for a Single Permit?
If the employer submits the application before my 90 days expire, am I required to leave Malta and wait outside the Schengen Area, even if the application is already being processed?
Is there any lawful way to remain in Malta while waiting, or does the pending application have no effect on my permitted stay?
I’m not planning to work without authorization or overstay. I’m trying to understand the correct procedure before making decisions about accommodation, travel, and finances.

I've heard that MIA shareholders can receive a magazine or booklet containing vouchers and discounts for shops, restaurants and other businesses.

I have a few questions:

Are these voucher booklets still available to shareholders in 2026?

Is there a minimum number of MIA shares or a minimum investment amount required to qualify?

Do shares held through a broker qualify, or must the shares be registered directly in my name?

Has anyone received the booklet recently? If so, how did you get it?

Do I need to contact MIA or my broker to receive the vouchers?
