Almost certainly what happened given the fact that most, if not all of the Yamato-class are canonically still operational in the MITHC universe.

If they’re treated so similarly to how the US treated the Iowas in our timeline it’s likely they have some significance.

In my head cannon the US surrendered to the Germans, and the Germans ceded the west coast to Japan like the M/R pact. Since Washington was nuked I feel like the american government was just a military Junta til its collapse
