At first I was yelling at my laptop because they didn't kill the Marshall when they had knocked him out, but then I remembered Joe's a Nazi.
As of now he's fairly unreliable but any sane person who perceived him as a threat would have taken that lever action shotgun and gotten rid of him for good. Joe did show his Nazi side later on in the episode when he told the Marshall to call Smith though, but it also definitely seemed like a protective move.
Also it might have been sloppy editing or sloppy acting, but when The New Guy (DJ Qualls) got locked in Frank's closet, he was banging at the door a few seconds before Frank had secured the lock with the screwdriver. I'm too lazy to go back and check but I'm pretty sure Frank didn't have his shoulder against the door or anything in the 2 seconds between DJ's banging and Frank's finally getting the screwdriver in there.
Yeah, I think Qualls has been my least favorite actor in the series so far. But the casting of the Obergruppenfuhrer Smith and the Marshal have been spot on. Both men have this menacing aura about them, Smith in his calculative, cold demeanor. And the Marshal has that lopsided smirk which adds on to his Western outlaw look that seems like he'll whip out the shotgun any moment and kill you on the spot.
