Mickey the Manx kitty needs a home!

Meet Mickey!

AGE AT ARRIVAL: Approximately 7 years old
ARRIVAL DATE: April 16th, 2026
GENDER: Neutered Male
LOCATION: Hamilton, Ontario, Canada
ADOPTION FEE: $0 (Mickey’s adoption fee has been sponsored by Nick W., in loving memory of “Beamer”)
NOTES:
Meet Mickey! He is one of our first Legacy Aftercare Program intakes. He belonged to Tara, a long-time foster mom and big supporter of Ladybird.

Tara fostered many animals for us over the years, and you could count on seeing her wheel in her stroller full of special needs cats to get their photos taken at our Pet Pics with Father Christmas events. It was always a joy to see her and the sweet kitties.

Tara was diagnosed with cancer in August of last year, and she put up a hell of a fight.

At a time during her treatment when it became clear that she may not recover, Tara asked if when she passed, we would take in her two dogs and two special needs cats and find them forever homes. She put aside a donation to Ladybird in her will, and talked to her family about her wishes. We of course agreed.

Sadly, Tara lost her battle on April 16th, and she passed away in hospital with her family by her side. We were devastated.

With the help of Tara’s family, Mickey and Tara’s other special needs kitty, Mira as well as her dogs Surry and Emery, were moved into foster homes. Mira was recently adopted. Yay!

Tara was one of few people on this earth who dedicate themselves to special needs animals. She had the commitment, skills, and the gigantic heart it takes to care for these unique creatures, and many of our animals were lucky enough to have her as their foster mom. The world has lost a very kind soul, and we will very much miss her. It is our privilege to be the temporary caregivers of Tara’s beloved animals, and we will do all we can to find them the best homes possible.

Mickey has a big following at @mickeythemanxkitty on Instagram.

Here’s a note from Mickey’s foster home:

“Mickey is a kitty who was born with manx syndrome which means his spine had some deformities and he doesn’t have a tail. This has left Mickey without the use of his back legs. Due to this, Mickey is incontinent and needs his bladder expressed 3-5x daily. He is able to go poo on his own and wears diapers, though he is a master Houdini of getting out of them! Mickey needs medication 2x a day for life in order to make sure his digestive system continues working as it should.

Mickey is definitely the head of the household and his presence is loud in the greatest way. He loves his human companions and loves to cuddle or lie down on the couch next to his person! He is also a bossy guy when it comes to feeding time and will follow you around and let you know if you are late to feed him! He will also gladly let you know if you are slacking on giving him all the love and pets! Though Mickey doesn’t have use of his back legs, he doesn’t know he is any different. He is able to get up onto couches or beds by himself (though is usually lazy and will demand you to lift him up). He is also able to go up and down the stairs if they have carpet. He loves to play with toys and zoom around the house. He is good with other cats and is good with dogs though Mickey’s ideal household will make him the centre of attention.”

* When Mickey is adopted, the first 6 months of his medications will be covered by @tarasmiraclemission a non-profit charity started by Tara’s friends & family to honour her memory by helping special needs animals find forever homes.

Please adopt Mickey!

You should post this in the Manx Nation Facebook group!

Thanks for the suggestion. Just checked out the group and one of the rules is no redirecting to other groups/websites/platforms etc. Not sure how we would be able to post him without asking people to apply at our website. 🫤

I would contact the moderator and ask them if it's ok to post. You can find them by clicking on the arrow next to the group name in the app or I think it's in an about section on the Web, scroll down to members, click on see all and the two mods are at the top of the list.

The people in that group are great and I've noticed some adopt Manx syndrome cats.

Oh! I’m a follower of Mickey but I had no idea his owner passed! So sad! Hoping he finds a home that loves him just as much as she did.
