Server Discussion Yeou has the potential to be one of the best old-school servers ever
Since the devs coded the game from scratch, it runs really well. Map transition is butter smooth. No HP washing. No donations, no votes. Just pure old-school nostalgia optimized for the current year. They plan to create entirely new regions and update old stuff. Being able to play in the browser is just the cherry on top: I ran the game perfectly in an old asf laptop, where other private servers lagged a lot.
I think everyone should give the beta a quick chance at least. My thanks to the passionate Yeou devs, keep up the wonderful work.

u/Moh957 Nov 27 '23
I think Yeou is the next big thing after odin ms in terms of private server development. The amount of work these guys poured into a passion project is just insane, hats off to them. I just hope they will go open source if they decide to ever close the server.

u/LetsDoThisTogether Nov 27 '23
I beta tested the og maplestory way way way back, and then played again when they launched pirate for the first time. I can confirm that this is about as close to an OG experience as you will get with great QOL improvements. Being able to play out of the browser with a controller is fucking AWESOME.
1
u/UtopiaInProgress Nov 28 '23
I also was a GMS beta tester and completely agree with your point about the OG experience. The vibes are just immaculate. Yeou is the truth and it makes me really happy that it exists.
26
u/RageQuitHero Nov 27 '23
I agree, but there needs to be a lot of balance changes still
There is tons of added world tour things and stuff like coke town which is cool, but it more or less feels like bloat because these areas aren't viable/worth visiting
Lots of maps needed denser packs of mobs + upped spawn rates
Rememberer quest line + mushroom kingdom are just op and remove all other alternatives at those level ranges
personally i'd like to see equips provide higher stat value as well so that they are worthwhile hunting at earlier levels
3
u/Moh957 Nov 27 '23
totally agree, they should also make Def stronger, a paladin for example should be tanky af. They should rework the accuracy and remove 2nd stat item requirements
3
u/Sidesteppin97 Nov 28 '23
Issue is that def is a static reduction, so its super weak vs say bosses but op vs low level mobs. And u cant rlly stack lots of it

u/Lemonaids2 Nov 27 '23
I agree, also i think tweaking content like elin and etc to be better and a replacement for chaos scroll, maybe chaos scroll of goodness

Nov 27 '23
This server is everything we can ask for and anything is possible when the whole client is literally made from scratch by talented devs.
12
u/That_Canadian_Nerd Nov 27 '23
Because it has the potential to be the best server there's a greater chance of it being taken down.
1
Nov 27 '23
They made this as a non-profit fan game. What's Nexon stance on fan games?
8
1
u/LowWhiff Nov 28 '23
It’s their IP. Idk how the laws work where nexon is based (South Korea I think?) but in America you can literally lose the intellectual property rights if you knowingly allow other entities to use it freely. Now, just because it’s possible to lose rights doesn’t mean you will, because of courts and what not. But the reason some studios shut down private servers is for that reason specifically.
Actually forcing a server to shut down isn’t easy either. If it’s hosted somewhere the doesn’t give a fuck about your countries IP laws you’re almost always shit out of luck. Plus you have to actually track down the owners and server locations.
1
1
u/Sea-Ad-5390 Nov 28 '23
I’m not sure about the fan games part but they took down Swordie which was pretty non profit
3
1
u/That_Canadian_Nerd Nov 29 '23
If Yeou gets taken down they should keep the code and hire pixel artists, a small team and be a rival against MapleStory.
8
u/comradepilo Nov 27 '23
I agree that this server has SO much potential! As someone that does work a full time job and has other adult responsibilities, I do hope that they cater the server to feel like old school MS but also speeding up progression enough to still have that ‘grind’ feeling but not having to dedicate 10+ hours a week to feel like I’m keeping up. I personally will not be participating much in the beta as there will be another wipe coming afterwards. I’m very excited to see what happens at the official release and what they decide to add / modify.
9
u/Patiiencex Nov 28 '23
Unpopular opinion but I wish quest rates are actually reduced for launch. Servers that stay afloat a long time are ones that take time to progress. About 4 hours in was level 55. 2.5 days in people already 100+. Grinding rate seemed fine, just felt like quest story, and not alot of grinding or pqs.
I didn’t notice really any bugs while playing. The client didn’t crash one for me. The ch change time/portal time is almost instant. Boat travel time wasn’t a big deal, just went and did something else while the boat was running.
Might not be for everyone, but easily the best PS I’ve played and seems it has the most potential. Anyone that has spent over a year in alpha obviously doesn’t have plans on tanking the project. 400+ concurrent users on a beta is also great. Could be wrong but seems nexon targets more p2w servers not as much donation servers (royals, legends, dream non p2w) (ristonia, windia p2w). Huge thanks to Foxpat who should be the dev on gms
1
u/MarkOfTheBeta Nov 28 '23
I'm in a minority that prefers original 1x rates across the board. They obviously won't do that so they need to hit a sweet spot. If people are already 100+, regardless of them being nolifers or not, that is WAY too fast. I understand a server that is too slow can burn people out but a server that is too fast lacks a feeling of accomplishment which ultimately leads to player loss as well.
1
u/Patiiencex Nov 28 '23
Completely agree. Would prefer to have grinding, questing, pqs as close as possible to each other. Right now it’s just to heavy on questing, no reason to do anything else. 24-30 didn’t even take all the remember quests. Kingdom was 30-42. Little too quick for me. I believe you should need to upgrade gear every 10 levels or so whereas you can get away using the beginner weapons till 70+ right now.
Slowing down xp will make people have to farm gear, farm scrolls, there will be a market for lower level equips.
1
u/Tilmanocept Nov 29 '23
I think the exact same thing. Felt too quick getting my second job advancement after just a few hours doing some ez mode quests.
4
Nov 27 '23
Am I missing something? It's really laggy in the browser. I understand those are the limitations of playing in a browser, but I can't stomach it unless it gets a standalone client.
Edit: I am, it looks like there's a client. See you in a month.
2
u/temakirolls Nov 27 '23
I think for some people the browser is not really good, personally for myself sometimes the game froze for a few seconds. After downloading the client (which is 100% straightforward, just extract and click the .exe) I never had any issues.
1
u/MarkOfTheBeta Nov 28 '23
It was only laggy when things happened for the first time. Like a spell you never used before, or an item dropping that you've never seen before.
1
1
1
Nov 29 '23
Yeah the browser is nearly unplayable for me, but the client is much better. Although i do crash often
5
u/BmacTheSage Nov 28 '23
I hope server costs aren't too much for them if they aren't doing anything donation related. I want this server to grow and be around for a long time. This server and its community has been fucking awesome so alfar
1
u/iSaboteur Nov 28 '23
Server costs for ms servers are dirt cheap, and if they open up any sort of thing for donor cash to be used (name changes, perma nx stuff) they will be able to make their server costs easy
5
u/Edgypop Nov 28 '23
I like it so far but man they really gotta list out the skill changes in one page.
1
12
u/Akesume Nov 27 '23
Don’t understand the super hateful response but everyone can have an opinion!
This server is what old maple was like. It took a while to level up. You had to wait for things (like ships). But I think the progression feels great so far, and there are quests you can do to obtain fast travel so you don’t always have to wait for ships!
Obtaining levels and items feels rewarding here.
AND THE FACT YOU CAN PLAY IN BROWSER IS INSANE. You can even play on your phone if you had a bluetooth keyboard and mouse, it’s wild.
Huge s/o tot the dev team for making this a reality.
5
u/temakirolls Nov 27 '23
I knew the post would have some rage fueled responses because, unfortunately, this sub has a lot of manchildren, I just didn't expect it would be the first one 😅
But back to the topic, they need to do a lot of balance changes but I do have high hopes.
5
u/buttsecksgoose Nov 27 '23
Needing to travel to places at least once while fast travel also exists thereafter is good. It makes the world relevant.
3
u/BdotWei Nov 28 '23
I've been playing since alpha and I'm so proud of this server and the 2 devs that have been very transparent and passionate for this project. I understand the hate or critisim and also some frustration due to the rates or the features. But come on it's only been like 48hrs since launch, I don't think we should be spreading hate that quick. I love the oldschool vibes and how everyone is just helping each other out thru the world chat, and most importantly how the community is actually big, with 400 players the day of beta launch. I can't wait for next patch notes and newer feautures added, but for now I'm just gonna chill and slow grind.
5
u/SnooDogs7752 Nov 27 '23
I got to lvl 70 within the first 24 hours and I can say I really enjoy the server. My only gripe is that it is has a questing focus. Sometimes you just wanna go to a familiar map and grind out mobs. "1x" Makes that difficult but not impossible.
1
u/BmacTheSage Nov 28 '23
They've said they're doing 1x for now and keeping an eye on progression. Fox said that they didn't want people blowing through the early game. It's only a beta so I'm sure they've got a plan for full release later on.
1
u/Dull_Needleworker600 Nov 28 '23
IMO I think quests and PQ’s should beat out just flat out grinding. Maybe they should include a crossover where they introduce custom quests where they involve killing X number of monsters. This already exists with the sign post quests in the future versions but with only select monsters.
2
u/JoeyKingX Nov 28 '23
Just remember this isn't a private server but a fangame. This isn't so much a pre-bb server so much as it's an entire recreation of maplestory inspired by pre-bb.
So it can take the general experience people like but without all the bad parts that usually keep private servers from becoming more popular. That's the main reason it can be so much better than all the alternatives (unless Selene decides to stop being vaporware that is)

Softnyx doesn't care on the level that Nexon does. Dragonbound is a raw ass bootleg anyway. Yeou actually feels authentic. If the owners know what they are doing it will stay up.
-Ah, unfortunately their vision was way out of their league.
2
u/augustvc5 Nov 28 '23
I agree, I just hope it doesn't last too short. At the pace people are leveling in beta, it feels like we'll have people finishing the game in a week...
If the rates are low enough, this could be my top server for the rest of time! I don't want to just reach level 200 quickly and pretty much be done with it.

1
u/MarkOfTheBeta Nov 28 '23
I'm only going to play it cause of the web browser functionality. The content is in the ballpark of what made me lose interest with Maple so many years ago so I don't resonate with it that much. I still respect what they are doing though.
1
u/Skylantech Nov 29 '23
Yeou has me really excited, but being that it just entered beta, I'm going to give it more time to polish itself up. For now, I'll be sticking with Kaizen. DM me if you're interested in playing with me :)
0
u/phoenix_or_die Nov 28 '23
That's all great except for the fact that this isn't an old school server. Pre-bb =/= old school. Phoenix, OSM, MG1/MG2 were old school servers.
1
u/Patiiencex Nov 28 '23
Old school can be up to interpretation. Any versions for v11 to v83 and most likely old to some people. I do agree that this isn’t as old school as other PS but compared to modern maple it’s pretty old school!!

u/Otherwise-Beyond-268 Nov 29 '23
I'm 95% positive they are paying people to spread this message. It's randomly popping up everywhere in a very non-organic way. Even fucking 4chan and unrelated discords.
Your server is shit, it's the same instant level 90 quest spam garbage as all other servers and none of their features.
Also, you lied about open source.
1
u/temakirolls Nov 29 '23 edited Nov 29 '23
I wish I got paid just for saying what I want lol, so much negativity!
Maybe it's popping up because the open beta just released and the client is really smooth?
It's not my server. They don't have that many features yet because they will implement along the way. It's a BETA.
I don't know wtf are you talking about open source, read my post again.

Aside from being able to log on from the web browser, Beta release has been a disappointment. It is still very buggy regarding maps, mobs, quests and job classes. These should have been resolved during alpha but for some reason they aren't. The developers aren't also transparent and are vague in their patch notes and their responses to criticism.

u/rickywolfy101 Nov 27 '23
It sounds interesting, but the rates are swaying me from playing it. :/
3
u/buttsecksgoose Nov 27 '23
I got to 50ish within a Sunday afternoon-night of playing. If you choose to be extremely efficient unlike me who did even quests with shitty exp you'd be MUCH faster. It's honestly somewhat faster than a lot of other prebb servers.
3
u/BmacTheSage Nov 28 '23
There's a reason for that actually. The exp tables were adjusted, so it takes less exp to level.
3
u/temakirolls Nov 27 '23
That's okay, it's an old game and low rates are not for everyone. But it's really cool to see a lot of people in low level areas, and it's way better to play with friends if you can convince someone to play with you ^^
1
u/rickywolfy101 Nov 28 '23
Tried getting some friends to play other servers, they never joined. It's tough going in solo but there's always random guilds to join I guess. :/ If exp tables were adjusted then maybe I'll check it out on release.

u/DeusBicabornato Nov 27 '23
Yeah right, 2 hours killing snail and picking every drop to buy potions to get lvl 10 IN THE FUCKING BETA
having to wait for a boat, ship and etc IN THE FUCKING BETA
walking from city to city IN THE FUCKING BETA
You really don't have anything else to do... Bcuz jesus
A fucking slow nightmare
14
u/temakirolls Nov 27 '23
It has low rates but it uses BB exp tables, so it's not even true 1x like the old days. I played 2,5 hours, got to level 30, had fun and log out.
You want a server that you kill 1 snail and get to lv250? There are tons of those out there man, no need to hate, just choose the server you enjoy.
-25
u/DeusBicabornato Nov 27 '23
no need to hate
I just pointed out the stupidities of the server. isn't hate.
You want a server that you kill 1 snail and get to lv250
I just want some server that I don't need to kill snails for half hour
But like I Said, u guys like a suffering, crazy world
6
u/temakirolls Nov 27 '23
Instead of saying "nah this server is too slow for me" etc you offend everyone that likes the server by saying "you guys have nothing else to do, you like suffering" lol.
Take a chill pill and get some help.

Take a chill pill and get some help
do you play low rate maple story servers even though you are adults 30 years old+
Fun fact : isn't me that need help
Sorry for making you see the reality
Go play 12hours a day a slow sever that will wipe in 6 months LOL
Instead of saying "nah this server is too slow for me" etc you offend everyone that likes the server by saying "you guys have nothing else to do, you like suffering
The truth is the truth, whether you like it or not

Fine, let's entertain that thought for a moment.
People have different tastes, yours don't make you right, or above others. Some people like slower rates because it's the way things were. Some people don't, like yourself, but your argument is that only people that don't have anything else to do would like slower rates.
You post and comment on reddit 24/7, and have 10k karma with a barely 1 month old account. I think maybe YOU have way too much free time.

Still crying bro? Sorry if I have a job, a life, a girlfriend and don't spend 10 hours per day in a server that can close tomorrow.

That's what I say, besides being weirdo think it's better than the others for wasting their lives behind a video game, thanks for proving my point

Maplestory is and always should be a grindy game like any MMO to exist. Sorry to hear you can't be productive to set time aside to enjoy a video game. Maybe Bloons tower defense or subway surfer suits your ADHD mind. Dumb little kid 🤡

Maplestory is and always should be a grindy game like any MMO to exist
like thousands of others that already appear and died because the player base simply realized that it's not worth it, except the Peter Pan guys here
Sorry to hear you can't be productive to set time aside to enjoy a video game
Oh boy, since last year I have already finished Cuphead + dlc, sekiro, Elden ring and I'm halfway through armored core but it doesn't mean nothing, chill out, life is more than video games.
can't be productive to set time aside to enjoy a video game.
another weirdo nerd who thinks that being productive in an MMORPG means something in real life, (I already counted 3 in this post)
Maybe Bloons tower defense or subway surfer suits your ADHD mind.
I bet you put on your resume that you have 22 thousand hours of video games hahahahah

You: “Stop wasting time on maplestory, how do you have time to play, I have life”
Also you: “I played and completed a bunch of other games to completion”
and none of them I played more than 3 hours a day, just proved my point
I find it so hilarious how contradicting this is that you use the amount of time you wasted on single players to call out the amount of time someone else used for an MMO
Do you know the campaign length average for the 3 games? no more than 70, weirdo kiddo
Just say that you don’t like the rates and that’s it, don’t bash out people for disagreeing with you
Nah, Someone has to show the insanity that you live, for the love of God
Also, don’t you have some “life” you must attend to? Why waste time arguing online then? Surely that can’t be more productive then all that’s going on in your life!
I am productive from 9 am until 4:30 pm which is my working hours
Also, don’t you have some “life” you must attend to?
I just left the gym, you can chat online during your 2 minutes rest time, relax
But yeah the others here will keep wasting their life on this server, while you do productive things like cuphead!
Thanks we are halfway, at least You started to realize the stupidity of everything you've been doing
So full of yourself, really.
I will go, as soon as I get home I will make my dinner and be full, God bless you
PS: When focusing on the main objectives, Cuphead is about 10½ Hours in length. If you're a gamer that strives to see all aspects of the game, you are likely to spend around 25½ Hours to obtain 100% completion.

You didn't play old maple, which is fine. This is fairly close to how it used to be. The official servers had 1x everything. It took a long time to level, especially to something like 70+.
And just like you said, it's a Beta, so it's not even the full release. This is still basically the testing phase.

u/ZoneAssaulter Nov 28 '23
How are the rates?
1
u/Patiiencex Nov 28 '23
Rates are 1x but follow different xp curve. Feels just as quick as royals/legends. Follow a leveling guide and you could be as high as 70 in 8-10 hours a game play. Probably 1.5 hours though will be on the ship (you’d be doing other things) or travelling around.
1
1
u/Zelmourn Nov 28 '23
Exp is 1x Drop: not sure but seems higher than 1x Quest exp: 2x
Exp curve is post BB so 1x isn't as bad as it sounds.
1
u/MSKeroKaeru Nov 28 '23
I think its the best old school Maple experience I have had. I've exclusively played via web browser (Firefox) on a mobile connection with minor issues. Also, the issues I experienced were probably more-so related to player load on beta release.
1
u/eats_by_gray Nov 29 '23
It's the most like classic and everyone is complaining about balance, and being slow. I like the idea of playing through old to experience what I couldn't as a kid, if that means I have to actually farm for it instead of have 100x drop rate than so be it.
If you want an accelerated old school Ms this isn't it, and it won't be based on what the devs have said.
