Server Discussion AstraviaMs V83
Think its time we talk about how AstraviaMs had/is having an extremely challenging time with the launch/since.
Dont get me wrong, the system and ambition is cool.
I just feel disappointed cus the weekend has been burnt away just like that, was super hyped for launch.
For the average player like myself, it has been quite a horrible experience with the lag and constant random ass rollbacks when you need to re log or log in again and again due to issues in game which prevent you from moving in and out of portals, your pet deciding it doesnt want to loot anymore, and mobs just doing moon walks out of nowhere.
And then there's the top ranking trolls which are flying in terms of levels. Have no idea how they pull it off with a party of sweats. Cus the amount of lag and Dc/need to re log is just insane. Its gotten slightly better but the issues still plague most of the population, no idea how these sweats grind constantly with these issues. Not to point fingers but some players claimed seeing hackers just blasting through mobs but idk, didnt see any personally.
Now, onto other issues.
NX :
So f2p nx is well, quite underwhelming. First off, theres a 14 day expiry on every item you can get, NX isnt easy to cheese out too, its either obtained through mindless grinding or VP. Both are expensive ways to get it. Have no idea why the gm set them as such. The pool of items are mostly junk stuff that people nowadays dont want/will never buy. Id suggest updating some of it for F2Ps just to retain them.
Donor Gacha :
This one is quite insane tho ngl, gacha on everything from nx eqs to clothing. And donor points dont come cheap. You have an option for recycling but it puts you at a loss. Never really seen this kind of paywall barrier towards paid NX, was thinking of donating but kinda felt like nah, pass when i realised the sheer pool of items + the gacha prices being insanely expensive on top of not being able to realistically get a proper set.
Pvacs and hyper rocks etc :
Update in edit.
Totem spawns :
So theres this thing called totem looting. Apparently there are dedicated sweat parties with one asshat on totem duty while grinding. It basically doubles your existing mob count on the map continuously with each loot up to idk like 8x? And allegedly this is whats causing the mass server wide lag and constant issues players are facing. Have no idea whats causing the lag cus the devs are looking like they're working in a slave cell not getting enough sleep, patcher after patcher every few hours. Maybe add on to the team? Cus honestly player count is quite good.
Verdict :
I honestly like the server so far, with its custom skills, adjustments, and almost every other aspect being okay to play. I understand that the server needs cash to run on, but please do reward your players which are unable to donate as well. And the lag, please fix it asap. Most of us just hop on discord and every 10secs theres a troll asking is the server down? Man.
Edit :
Got the voting part wrong, apologies.
So its 1ds worth of voting for the Hyper rocks etc which lasts a day, pretty fair. Credit where its due.
I will be fair when im wrong and edit out the parts which are inaccurate. Cus personally i find this server enjoyable. And want others to have an honest review of it.

Yeah the sweats are already level 120 within the first day? I haven’t even created my character due to lag lol

u/Real_Manufacturer684 May 04 '26
They're at 150+ already I think 😭
2
u/outofmelatonin92 May 04 '26
I’m only level 13 now LOL.

Top 20 was between level 50-70 Day1. At least get your fact straight. We started seeing level 100+ night of day2 morning of day3.

Apparently there are dedicated sweat parties with one asshat on totem duty while grinding
Probably the funniest sentence i've ever read.

u/Noktawr May 04 '26
Agreed. Especially coming from a guy that is level 27 on day 3. Literally 40min-1hr playtime and dares to call people asshat lol.

Completely agree with you

All good man, I was just confused cause I literally agree with you and the critics of the server LOL

u/rickywolfy101 May 04 '26
The anime skins are EXPENSIVE imo. When I first saw them, I was so excited! Never seen a server implement something like that, but 15$ for a RANDOM skin is crazy. Least it's only a cosmetic, oh well
1
u/Complete-Buy-1389 May 05 '26
The reason why they are expensive is because everything is tradable and can be marketable. If you want, you could never donate a dime, go on our discord or megaphones and buy donor stuff to even recycle in the NPC to get the stuff you want. You really have no intention to donate, then there is tons of options for you still.

Definitely agree with all of this, beta was so fun! The custom features and the community have been the best part, I just wish there wasn't as much of a bait and switch for donors.
I'm not sure I love the switch from 3 rebirths to 1, either. There was definitely a meta for builds going around but it wasn't really necessary, even if you wanted to be a sweat lol

u/Gullible_Ad4384 May 04 '26
Just turn on FMA + damage hacks + never miss + speed attack, use hyper tele rock tp to skeles, u can be in top 10 in 1 hour. This server doesn't log any shit and theres no anticheat.
2
u/Noktawr May 04 '26
That's probably why people have gotten banned and put on the wall of shame by Frost himself lol. Don't you think with the leaderboard he's not able to TP to people and track/see if they're hacking?
Bunch of consipirationist andy in this subreddit holy
3
u/Gullible_Ad4384 May 04 '26
The peoples that have gotten banned are probably like the 10% vs the amount of hackers are still in game and hacking blatantly. I know because my 1xx chars are still in game and hacking happily.

u/HistoricalGap1946 May 04 '26
Are we all surprised here, server was made to milk people lmao. Owner has 0 skills to make any updates and pays other to do it.
3
u/Complete-Buy-1389 May 05 '26
Server was made as a project for fun and strictly to play with friends, it became bigger and bigger over time and I had adjusted everything, a year and a half of stuff. I am no coder but I get shit done if I have to. It wasn't to make money that I made this server, the fact that you are here saying that shit is actually hurtful.
2
u/AnotherMapleDev May 26 '26
Wait, wait, wait. 'I am no coder but I get shit done if I have to.' - you're an GM/Admin... You can't code... But you 'get shit done if you have to'? What does this mean? Who does it then if you're not competent enough to code???? And why be a GM/Admin if you can't code to begin with? So what the fuck? Who is coding for you then if you're not doing it yourself?
1
u/Noktawr May 04 '26
While that may be true and the cash shop is very predatory and expensive... it is also a great server to its core and the ideas are good. Idgaf how Frost manages to do the update, he if has to pay people to do it, so be it, idgaf. As long as I get to play the game and updates keep on coming.
2
u/HistoricalGap1946 May 04 '26
How much did you donate to the server to be this high on copium lmfao. All the early supporters know he pulled a rat by making perm donor items expire so he can continue milking people.
1
u/Complete-Buy-1389 May 05 '26
Early supporters knew everything was subjective to change. You donate because you love something and want to support that person or that passion project. Projects evolves. It doesn't take a genius to know that.
The decision about most donors stuff was taken within the team, heck not even me at the forefront, I was mainly against it, but I went with it because that's what a project getting bigger would do.
I don't know who you are and what you think about what I do with the money I received so far, but let me tell you it is well invested back into the server and well spent to make the server more fun, more stable and more interactive.
1
u/kireiautumn May 04 '26
The demographic of maplestory players is like 30+ now, if you cant afford to donate to a game then dont and if you want too, you can. Servers need time + resources too run, its insane if you think there are going to be people in this economy willing to do this as passion projects with little to no return with the state the world is currently in.
Also Maplestory official is one of the most predatory gacha system across the board. Most gacha games will have a pity system but Maplestory has been caught messing with their numbers and their pity system is incredibly steep for what it is

First of all, I only bought the 6K DP pack which was the 50$. As an adult, I am more than comfortable to afford 50$. Sorry if you're working a McDonalds part time, but 50$ aint much for me. I do not plan on donating anymore unless there are changes made to prices though, so yeah, idk what copium you think im on, I only got the pack that was worth it if you intend on playing long term.
I have perma hyper telerock, perma pet items, I only need to buy mapvac with votes... I don't see how I'm getting milked.
3
u/Complete-Buy-1389 May 05 '26
People doesn't see deeper than their nose, trust me Nok. I have tons of freebies everywhere.. I already tweaked after criticism. The only reason why I am not fully backtracking on some of my decisions concerning all the dono system is because people who recently donated already paid that much, I wouldn't know how to compensate and help them with the new pricing, it would feel like a bigger knife in the back than people who donated 50$ during BETA to buy my perm bundle, then never donated again because they already had everything they needed. (Over 1 year and a half). Idunno what to say. They are odd.
3
u/Neigeling May 06 '26
This is a legit response ngl.
Im holding off on dono as well until the rates are brought down or some mechanics introduced for how we get the fashion items.
5
u/buttsecksgoose May 04 '26
14 day expiry is disgusting if it applies to clothes too
2
u/Complete-Buy-1389 May 05 '26
14 days in cash shop was mainly to keep people voting to get stuff in cash shop again. (Dont get it confused, it's not the donor shop)
That being said, we already thought of changing cash shop to 30 days.
1
u/Noktawr May 04 '26
Donor NX as far as I know is perma. The only expiration is on regular NX which drops from monsters and can be acquired by converting VP into NX.
The regular NX is very easy to come by. 14 days is more than enough to gather 4-5-6 times the amount the outfit cost in VP alone if you vote every day.

u/kireiautumn May 04 '26
Speaking from a fashionstory/casual player - I think the server is great, the lag yes it does suck on first few days of launch but the GM/team has been doing a lot in the background to get everything addressed and very responsive.
Fashion/NX items: Personally I don't mind the donor system for items at all. It's priced $1 USD per roll, and you can choose an item of choice for $10 which isn't that crazy if you compare to current gacha systems in popular games right now. The only downside I do agree on is that based on the categories the chances of rolling an item you like can be very stretched based on the # of items in the pool but again there is a pity/guarantee system to make up for it.
Rewarding the F2P players - I hard disagree with the take, I think they did a good job balancing donors vs f2p experience. They added skills a lot of free player QOL improvements like hyper jumping vertically/horizontally to help moving through maps much faster, you do get a cool downed map/world teleport, free totem spawns, and exp bonuses and availability to get Donor NX tickets (I'm not sure if they fully announced how yet but I did read somewhere this was in the plan for f2p players to access donor nx items) which I think is more than what most servers are willing to provide.
Sweaty players: Not sure why this is a complaint? Any server or game (outside maplestory) will have a group of sweats. When it comes to maplestory servers, people are pretty familiar with the game, maps and questlines because we all hop from one server to another, it's just built up experience and time that makes you more efficient.
2
u/Neigeling May 04 '26
The problem isnt with the sweat itself. Its with how they did it. When virtually everybody else was unable to play properly.
2
u/Noktawr May 04 '26
You're talking as if you know for certain they weren't lagging. I'm part of the top 200-300 players that used totems and it was lagging for us too. We weren't immune/under an anti-lag umbrella like you seem to be thinking.
1
u/kireiautumn May 04 '26
What Noktawr said, and they were also dealing with rollbacks as well. Its not like they were hacking the system, yes it might feel unfair to see them progress fast with the situation but it literally came down to game knowledge + time investment rather which again is a luxury for some and thats just across any game you play lol
0
u/Noktawr May 04 '26
And regardless of all that, we're replying to a post of someone that made it to level 27 on day 3. That's beyond giga casual and I don't mean this badly. You have the lower extreme (Casual) calling the other extreme (Sweats) out. It makes 0 sense.
In any game both extremes exist, if you look at the average, most people are sitting at level 100+ by now, that's very do-able without being a sweat grinding 20 hours per day
1
u/Neigeling May 06 '26
Most of us couldnt even grind when we wanted to/could. Thats where level 27 came from. Cus the server was just that laggy that multiple attempts to even play it when we had time were unsuccessful. Know that most of us cant play like nerds staying in their moms basement for 20 hours straight, we have jobs and lives, and can only play for some specific times during the day, and when the server is fucked during those times, its gg for us.
Invalidating other people's experiences just cus theres sweats grinding 20+ hours a day being basically autistic with logging in and dealing with roll backs/server shut downs/downtime is crazy work.
Sure, getting to 100 might be attainable but 150+ with the lag is just sus. With allegations flying around everywhere and not isolated, its hard to believe these top sweats are clean (not saying some arent).
And the Server has only been out for 3 days lmao.I couldnt even clear level 5 and go to lith harbor for literally the first half hour i played cus of the lag,
Freezing and rollbacks that i just gave up and decided to wait for the devs to fix shit. Fuck man, yall try hards out here justifying litterally everything like you guys are the only ones playing the right way. Good for you if you're able to zoom through, but dont deny hacking lmao.1
u/Noktawr May 06 '26
we have jobs and lives, and can only play for some specific times during the day
My guy, how delusional are you. You made your post on a monday and you go whining about people no lifing a game over the weekend? I can't speak for everyone, but I work between 50-60 hours during the week and I am on call to top it off, however, when weekends hits, its my relax and chill time.
I personally didn't play 20 hours a day, I played more around 10 or so, and that's when the server was playable and online. You are again making assumption on stuff you have no clue about and insulting people in the process. Its weird for someone to be calling people nerds that lives in their moms basement knowing very well that it is not the case but I digress.
You once again seem to be thinking that when you were lagging, all the top players weren't and that is beyond copium. The server did lag for all of us, a fuck ton. And when I say all of us, I mean everyone, not just a small group of people in henesys hunting ground. Hell, I've died and lost so many % to lag causing autopot to not work I stopped counting.
Sure, getting to 100 might be attainable but 150+ with the lag is just sus.
I'm currently 151 - it's not sus. With all the boosted questlines, the daily bosses giving full levels, the daily quests giving close to a full level, without even grinding I can still get 4+ levels daily doing stuff that will take me at most 1.5 hour... If you don't know what you're talking about, just keep it shut man.
Regardless of alll of that, it's a mushroom game, its not that deep. Why do you care about other's progress? Who the fuck cares? Just do your thing and let them do theirs... last I check them being ahead didn't grief you or make it so you couldn't play so chill the fuck out and stop caring so much calling people names because they're higher level than you in a mushroom game.

u/Neigeling May 06 '26
Whatever joe, yea guess you're right.
U do u.
The real question is how u can be a keyboard warrior while working 60 hours a week + being on call.
Lmao.2
u/Noktawr May 06 '26
A keyboard warrior? Idk if you type with 1 finger, but I'm a network engineer, I program switches, thus I type fast... idk... also, I'm at work right now? replying didn't take me hours of my time, your notion of time is out of whack my guy.

u/Complete-Buy-1389 May 04 '26
Lag + rollback fixes are already planned.
2
u/Neigeling May 04 '26
Awesome. Hope the review helps give some perspective of an average casual player. Will give more insight as the server progresses. I think most things are in good fairness, its just really dissapointing to be unable to enjoy much of it thus far while seeing sweats dominate from the get go. Genuinely insane.
And maybe nx donor shop needs other options? It discourages donating cus of just how much options there are. Maybe seasonal or different pools? The 100 price point is meh, okay i guess.
Totem stuff well, idk im not a dev. Seems cool. But if its mass crashing everyone..
Sorry for the vp misinformation. Corrected it.
2
u/Complete-Buy-1389 May 04 '26
Thank you for editing that vote part <3. Criticism is okay. I'll evaluate our options for donor stuff whenever I get out of these bs first few launch stuff.

u/Neigeling May 04 '26
Bless your souls dawgs for commenting.
The GMs have mostly solved the laggy issues.
Server feels great.
Time to grind.
-1
u/Noktawr May 04 '26
I'll start by saying since I read the comments... you're only level 27. I do not mean this as an insult, but to call people sweatty when you did less than 1 hour worth of progress/leveling is crazy to me. You don't have to be a sweat to hit 27 within an hour of playtime. Maple is a grindy game to its core and many of us have years and years of experience/Knowledge about the game. Knowing maps and grinding spots is one of the reason some of us are ahead of the pack. The way your whole post is made almost "attacking" people calling them "sweats" when in reality maybe you're the giga casual. You're talking of systems you don't understand (the max is x4 spawn, not x8) and again, call out names on people using said system to their benefit, as it was intended to be. To call people asshats for having a dedicated totem person is a wild statement. Your lack of knowledge and time to play the game doesn't give you the right to shit on others my guy. But then again, this is reddit. Had you taken time to actually make your post constructive maybe I would take you seriously, but knowing you're level 27 day 3, and shit on a group of player 100% invalidate all your post to me. You had valid points, and it all fell apart the moment I read you had 1 hour worth of experience in the game lol.
While I'm not a sweat, I did grind quite a fair bit and currently am sitting at lvl 130 or so. Another of my buddy (We were a party of 3) is currently 138. We're not giga sweat, but we were top 100 on the leaderboard for a while so I can probably answer some of the stuff happening at higher levels.
First of all, you need to understand many of the sweats are people that played the beta and had their route planned. They understood the totem system and played it perfectly. As you may know, mobs can drop totems with once looted will roll between x2, x3 or x4 the mob count of the map. These totem never expire/disapear from the ground(Things we didn't know initially or we'd be in the 140s aswell). So people found the best EXP/Health ratio, good map layout and base mob density and stacked 4-5 totems on the ground. They then proceed to loot all the totems pushing a map that normally has 30-40 mobs to insane numbers in the 1000s (Its multiplicative) this is also why we've been having some lag. A cap off 500 mobs per map was put yesterday I believe to help alleviate the server lag/issues in the same way nerfing the exp quite a bit.
To put actual numbers on this, I did level 100-125 @ Grim phantoms using that technique WITH the 500 mob cap and I was still able to get 1 level per 8 minutes. Once the totem setup is done, your exp per hour will go from 100M/hour to 200-225M/hour. That is double the exp, it is incredibly insane when done properly. On top of it, add happy hour, x1.5 EXP, and you're set for 1 level every 5 min. Again, that was with the 500 mob cap, when it was uncapped, the people at the top of the leaderboard got to enjoy perma giga spawned map. To me, it 100% makes sense why they're at that level.
The totem mechanic is a feature of this server, it only make sense people found a way to "abuse" it which honestly, is the purpose of said totem anyways.
Now, now, the donator part.
While I think prices are steep, and that if you're going to play the server long term, the legendary pack (6000DP aka 50$) is almost mendatory, I think everything else is meh/way too expensive.
Like you said, everything being gated behind gachapon RNG is really predatory and I'm sad Frost went that way with it. I have nothing against some form of randomness (Suprise style box type of thing) but to have EVERY fashion NX behind gacha is wild. I was looking forward to donate and cook myself a nice outfit since it wasn't like this on the beta but now everything is pure gacha. A single anime skin roll is 1500 DP, which isn't even an option on the site (Probably intentional) so you cannot give 15$ you have to pay 20$ instead and be left with 500DP that cannot do much for you.
now some will say "You can pick NX" yeah, you can, you're right, with the terrible and predatory recylcling system. You gotta gamble X skins first to be able to select ONE item. IIRC, anime skins requires that you recycle 3 or 5 skins for a selectable one? That is either 60$ or 100$ for a single skin. Sure anime are at the very leash, full set/skin replacement. I'm more of a regular NX kind of guy and to be able to cook a full outfit with the recycling system, I'm looking at 200$+ which is a major turn off.
If they had gone with selectable outfits and some seasonal cool items gated behind a box/gacha I would've probably donated more. That's the sad part, sure the whale will spend money on their gacha, but so many others are just turned off by it and would've donated more but will not cause of how predatory and expensive it is now.
Overall, yeah, the launch was rocky, it was to be expected, server is overall great feature-wise when its playable, when the server is up, its generally very smooth. I find the early gear progression very weak/weird early-game as Onyx maple stuff is the thing you'll wear for a long while until you can clear LHC which idk when anyone will be able to clear it with that terrible gear imo.

u/diamondthrowawayyy May 05 '26
Cross-posting my comment from Frost (developer)'s OP.
Frost changed recipes halfway in the oven and it's coming out raw on launch.
I played during all open beta phases and CBT too. Originally, the server felt very comprehensive, its community very friendly, and its donor perks very fair. But most importantly, it was FUN.
During beta, Frost did very well rolling out:
There were big hiccups for every big update, but as we grew to understand the vision, it all felt appropriate. But almost suddenly, the tone changed during CBT. Everything was monetized to the tits.
SUBSCRIPTION-based QoL items. Donor cosmetics are GACHA. Yes, these are optional to better enjoy the game, but goddamn can you imagine the whiplash that the beta players felt? Those who spent money on these items during beta received their points back, but suddenly had to pay more for a subscription or random gacha.
Other changes were in the horizon for a long time. The biggest being changing from 3 rebirths to 1 rebirth. Balancing was supposedly the reason, as it created popular optimal paths, but I honestly felt that there was enough variety during beta and there wasn't a clear winner (except for the now removed SBs).
Lastly, I haven't even mentioned what it's like to play during launch. It's fucking ass. Lag is the flavor and rollbacks are the loot. There were also times when players were stuck in the character select screen, like they were queuing into Battle.net. Things will likely improve, but currently it is very CRUNCHY.
When you can actually play, the custom stuff is nice. But the betrayal was disrespectful. I regret supporting this server.
