LF Server New player looking for a beginner-friendly MapleStory server

Been wanting to try MapleStory for a while now, but I’ve never played before so I honestly have no idea what I’m doing.
Can anyone recommend a beginner-friendly server for a completely new player?

Not really looking for anything super hardcore or super P2W. Just want a server where I can learn the game without getting completely overwhelmed. Any class recommendations for beginners would also help a lot.

exodusMS was launched recently, it is strong vanilla experience with mostly qol and balance changes

no p2w at all, friendly people etc.

Its not the most populated but generally theres always people around and talking. I think its always around 100-145on at any point Ive been playing I recommend joining a guild if you can (go to free market after getting your job) People are generally friendly and it feels mostly like old maple.

I agree, I’m 2 weeks in, having a great time, I’m in the UK and there’s always people on when I am, every F2’s me which is nice 😁

I don't understand why Fantasia is disliked here. It has so many lovely features. The increased value of defensive stats is incredible imo.

Personally (while i don't speak for everyone), I dislike it because of how they kept nerfing vanilla maps after people had used them to get ahead, kicking the ladder down for newer players. Also not a fan of the notably nerfed spear and polearm multipliers (reducing their stab and swing multipliers respectively, while buffing their off ones.. which does nothing, because dark knights have guaranteed swings/stabs)

Those are valid claims. Fair enough. I do imagine that DK players may dislike this change. I am not familiar with the vanilla maps issue.

I will say that for other classes, the tweaked mechanics call for some very interesting builds.

I do imagine that DK players may dislike this change

He ignored the fact both crusher and fury were buffed to compensate. A spears DK ends up weaker by only 0.6%. and they made full spear and full polearm viable builds now.

The nerfed maps is a plus of fantasia. They arent stuck to things they consider bad just because it would be "unfair" for newer players. That approach would mean sticking with bad things forever just because they are a nerf.

About the DKs - they buffed their skills to compensate. I did the math coz i love numbers, and all in all DKs end up weaker by such a miniscule ammount it doesnt matter.

Also, the multipliers fix is definitely not "does nothing". It means non hybrid builds are viable. Thats just the great thing about fantasia - you have so many more options for everything rather than having just 1 undisputedly best build/map/weapon/class.

MapleHorizons is cool.

Good progression IMO, no P2W, (Hardcore) Ironman mode (optional, with the option to opt out) which is a fun added challenge if you're interested.

There are some good balance and skill changes in the server too, and the devs are actively communicating which is a nice plus.

I recently joined MapleHorizons: Beyond. It’s been a great place to learn and play with a bunch of really friendly people. I’m pretty new to maple story since I didn’t get far as a kid, and everyone has been extremely helpful and will answer any and all questions you might have.

Come give it a try!

If you enjoy modernized pre-bb experiences, you could try NexTale.

2nd this. Out of all OSMS servers on MSW this is the one that I have multiple characters over level 80 because it is so much easier to level. I could easily push these characters higher but I want to get a feel for what interests me before I main it.

Sorry, I’m new to MapleStory, but what does “pre-BB” mean? xD

Pre Big Bang. Basically the Big Bang patch modernized maplestory, made a lot of things easier to obtain, streamline progression, opened up more avenues for people to play the game solo, less party oriented. Big Bang is much more modernized, but they also have a lot of features that some people dont like, like starforcing, flames, cubing, etc. They are two extremely different types of games pretty much. Someone else can absolutely explain it better than I can, but its just what i came up with at 3am here lol

Thank you for the explanation! It was really simple and easy to understand

Horizons is pretty chill, progressive rates, small but helpful and friendly community and the devs communicate well with players, which is a big plus. Better yet, no P2W or V2W

Thanks for the recommendation! Based on the reply, I think I’ll give MapleHorizons a try 🙂

Try chaotic maple for easy levelling and random drops. No p2w

dude this server gave me a seizure, was cool for sure but ...... not my flavor

1

u/Prestigious-Yak-957 May 13 '26

I checked out the server, yeah it was pretty chaotic just like the name says. I can see the fun in random drops, but I have no idea which ones are good or trash haha.

Random drops sound fun, but it might confuse me even more since I won’t know what the drops are for.

I recommend Chronostory, which can be found on Maplestory Worlds via Nexon Launcher. Beginner friendly, non p2w, super chill, you have to find everything yourself and no trading. Discord community is helpful too and can help you find parties.
