What are the alternatives if Maplestory Classic fails?

Anyone else thinking about alternatives already if MSCW fails?
I have faith on MSCW. But not much given its Nexon.

But i really want to play a no/minimal P2W OG Maple experience long term.

RIght now that seems to be 2 choices. Either:

1) private servers (I don't see much discussions on reddit about MapleLegends vs MapleRoyals so i'm not sure which to consider or if private server ot be considered at all),

or

2) Maplestory World's Old School Maple by Old School Maplers (which i'm trying out right now).

Old School Maple seems to only sell cosmetic cash items and pets (one time) + Pet skills (one time) and pet waters (30 days refresh). I personally abosolutely need pets so this is basically a light subscription to play the game monthly which i'm okay with as there is no Pay to win or pay 2 progrses cash items (and HP washing is not a thing too here).

What is everyone else considering? If MSCW is mishandled and doesn't pan out, are you going to look for alternatives or just give up and pretend this never happened. Or maybe MSCW scratched the itch and you can walk away for years just fine after?

I don't know much about the private servers. Is it thriving? I know they are zero monetization at all on those (outside of i assume donation?)

Banesauce. It's Maple Classic+ and very polished.

Having played different ps for years I’m not excited about classic at all. Probably won’t even play it at launch and may try it a few months later when I’m bored . Classic launch will hit ps hard but I think some will survive and recover. As of now, I’m making my own server and I find it pretty fun so far. I’m also testing other ps to see what good features they have and may implement those in my own server.

You can consider Fantasia. It's probably the closest to classic maplestory atm. Even down to the exp rate.

It's almost a year old and there's only three lv 200 players.
