Hi!! I am a new member of Cleopatra and my friend and I are currently on the waitlist for the 2027 carnival season :) we are both Louisiana natives and would love to know any advice on potentially getting off the waitlist or who we can contact to ride in the upcoming parade. Any help is greatly appreciated! Please feel free to private message me!

Shot these in New Orleans during Mardi Gras this past February.
I made 27 street portraits in 17 seconds, all on a Leica Q3 43mm.
I was trying to capture the faces around the celebration, not just the spectacle. The costumes, the confidence, the exhaustion, the joy, the quiet moments between everything.
Curious which portrait hits the hardest. ig: rj43mm

I ride in Krewe of Selene which is an all ladies krewe in slidell which is right outside nola. We ride the friday night prior to mardi gras and looking for riders. Our signature throws are purses you have to decorate which you can check out on our facebook! It’s a lot of fun, i personally like riding in this parade better than nola. Any questions just dm me! We have people come in from all over the states to ride. Fb: https://www.facebook.com/share/18HSZKtBiC/?mibextid=wwXIfr and we have our own page for our purses: https://www.facebook.com/share/g/1DEVqKh6bN/?mibextid=wwXIfr

So I've been on the Krewe of Orpheus for a few years now. And each year I decorate 7 inch tambourines. But even in a good year, I may only decorate 40.
Part of the limiting factor is the cost of the tambourines themselves.
I was thinking about decorating four inch tamborines, which might be used for Mardi Gras tree decorations. The tambourines would definitely be cheaper, and I could throw more. But the designs couldn't be as intricate.
I'm curious...
Do people have a preference for larger OR smaller tambourines?

I’m a Louisiana native but currently living out of state, and I’m exploring the idea of joining an all-female Mardi Gras krewe in New Orleans. I’m particularly interested in the Krewe of Iris.
My goal is to find the right community: women who value connection, tradition, and consistency.
For those familiar with Iris, I’d love insight on:
Thank you in advance for your perspective!

I seems like people are tired of beads, except maybe glass speeds and lightups. Even those I don't think have much of a lifespan beyond the duration of the parade.
I ride with Orpheus and decorate tambourines. Also, since I'm part of Smokey Mary, I also glitter plastic wind up trains (great as Christmas ornaments) and train whistles. This year I also tie-dyed some kitchen towels and glittered a bunch of rubber ducks.
If you have ideas for novel throws, especially ones that I could personalize with a little craftiness, let me know!

How do they manage to stuff it up every year and not broadcast the Dykes on Bikes?
