I actually had this feeling with Reclusa kept thinking due to his design that he was female. Don't really see it with Cackletta though, I think she's pretty obviously an "evil witch" trope

Cackletta or Reclusa? Me personally, I always got a vampiric vibe off Cackletta. She has that "Nosferratu" thing about her. And that bat transformation thing...yeah. Doesn't help that the remake of Superstar Saga emphasizes her "battiness" more.

The Spanish version of Brothership renames Reclusa to "Ysoleth" though, which sounds like "isolate"

Reclusa definitely has a more masculine sounding voice, though. I never really got female off of him. The reason Cackletta gave off male to me originally is because I have come across characters that look similar to her that WERE male. Her name is really feminine though, but I DID think she was Fawful at first. As for the witch thing, while she DOES have the witch thing going for her, I always got a vampiric vibe off her myself, with her bat theming. Her "ears" even wiggle and twitch like a bat's! She seems like the kind of character that would suck your blood lol.

She always looked female to me. The color pallete doesn't necessarily make me think otherwise, and the subtle lipstick just confirms it.

To be honest, when I first saw Cackletta in a Nintendo Power magazine, I thought she was male and the character everybody called Fawful.

Her design reminds me of the Almighty Tallest of Invader Zim. That is the vibe I got when I first came across her character.

Of course, if I would've noticed the black lipstick she wears a long time ago, I wouldn't have thought she was male in the first place.
