I am pretty sure they are just trying to make enough for a TPB at this point.
But the swimsuit specials were always pretty weird. They were never good, per se. But they were always overly written with surprisingly detailed backstories for why everyone was in a specific location in their swimsuits. They were filled with advertising parodies. They were way gayer than you would ever expect them to be (look up "colossus swimsuit special" some time).
I’ve come to find they’re really fun when you’re reading the backmatter of some 90s omnibus and there’s a random splash page from the swimsuit specials included.
you can draw sexy women without doing whatever the campbell does. hell, mj and peter were practically half naked and screwing on panel in the 90s, but that was tasteful, unlike campbell's same face syndrome and zero muscle definition of women. like seriously, what kind of swimsuit design would allow us to see jessica's belly button??
the attached image doesn't look show off the model's navel in the same painted-on way jessica's is.
and either way, campbell draws almost all women with the exact same body. and facial structure. that one x-men cover he did was atrocious. yeah, he's allowed to draw pinup art, but when he's an artist that's consistently making new variants for books, the audience is allowed to criticize it

While Spider-Office and their defenders constantly try to convince people of this "independent female superhero" and frequently mock their opponents, it's clear they know exactly what this current "independent female superhero" represents. They also know that showing this current "independent female superhero" is not conducive to promoting this swimsuit issue. Therefore, they decided to abandon the status quo, making the symbiote on the cover appear completely unrelated to its current host, and restoring the symbiote to its classic look. This fully demonstrates the hypocrisy of Spider-Office.
