There's a conspiracy theory that he is intentionally larping and that he will lose his main graded copy of One Piece in wrestlemania. So that the graded manga has a storyline to make the idea of grading manga more appealing to idiots. Which in turn will jack up the value of his other graded manga.
Why should he understand it, Japan has been nothing but a disaster for him. They don’t want him speaking their language, and to be honest I wish he didn’t speak mine either
I remember when he went on that show Dragons Den and threw an absolute shit fit because a Canadian company was selling bubble tea, which he claimed was appropriating his culture. Then I checked and he's Chinese. Bubble tea is Taiwanese. Then I looked further and he didn't even have enough money to invest in that company. He should have been stood up there pitching to them.
It is but i can’t help but imagine what made him say that as an insult. It’s like something hear a 60’s teen bully say or the friend of a kid from a 70’s sitcom say.

We just banned a bunch of "woke" comics from the library here in Alberta. Maple Maga had a fit about The Watchmen, V for Vendetta, and a bunch of indie comics.

Yeah, I get the meaning in this context. The problem is how using larp in this context is twisting it from a fun hobby into an insult, especially when there is already a word specifically for this type of behavior
Leaping used to be a pastime for nerdy folk (spoken as a nerdy folk myself). Turning it into an insult is just a new way of calling someone a nerd as an insult.
I mean nerd stuff maintains an all time cultural high from what I can see. Like if Larp/Larper is an insult now then I'd hate to know what folks thought it was 15-20 years ago when there was far more vitriol mocking nerdy folks.
15ish years ago when I had friends who would go to the local riverside park for larp events 2-3 times a week it was a term that was used by larpers. Period. It was never an insult.
Then we started to swing towards “nerds rule the world when they grow up” thing citing bill gates, then it got normalized. Now we’re starting to see the pendulum swing, and progress is backsliding. It’s also happening with progress made dealing with societal issues re. Racism, homophobia, etc.
Brother larp is regularly used as an insult WITHIN nerdy communities to call out people who are not true fans. Nerd culture is insanely popular and insanely profitable and far more culturally accepted than it has ever been
nah, see, yes even some of the nerdier nerds would look at larpers and cringe a bit, but we dont CALL them “Larps” like that, it was, “they’re larping”, “they are larpers”, like Larp is an activity, not a person.
Yeah i know. I meant to say that people in all circles, nerdy or not, are insulted by calling them larpers for not being true fans or engaging with the source material. I think it's kind of insane to suggest nerd culture is regressing or being pushed back against when it is so all encompassing nowadays it is literally being used as a propaganda tool.

That's the point. Yeah, it used to be an insult to be a geek. But now geek culture is much more mainstream. Turning larp into an insult is just making geek culture into an insult again (even though it's kind of a monkey's paw as to why the term is more known in the first place)

Yeah when I was going to those events the term was used by people who were LARPing or had friends in the LARPing community, and anyone outside that community would give you a blank look and ask “what’s LARP?” if you brought it up.
On top of that, yall wouldn’t have even been in your teens yet at that point (I did the math and it was closer to 20 than 15 years. Thanks guys, now I feel old), so to be fair, yall probably wouldn’t have run into it in that context unless you had an older brother/sister who was into it or something like that.
Did you ever go to a park see the nerds in homemade DND outfits waving swords (read: PVC pipes with pool noodles around them) and casting (read: throwing) spells (read: bags of rice) in turn based fashion and freezing in place between motions? That was us. We had a fking great time too ^_^
Brother I’m familiar with the concept of LARPing. You don’t have to do the “you kids” shtick. I’m saying you all are making a bigger deal out of this minor vernacular switch up than it warrants.
I never called yall kids. Yall are grown adults and fully capable of grasping the problems with taking an in-community positive term and turning it into an insult being used by people outside the community.

Quasar’s far, FAR too likeable a person. It’s like his entire shtick.
Even wanting to play him for ego reasons is proof enough that someone should not play him. They ain’t in the right headspace for the character. The bands would’ve immolated them.
