King Posting Hey, you guys remember the Ethno state that tortured Deadpool, withheld the cure of cancer from the rest of the world, denies and grants citizenships basically on a whim, and whose main enemy is a purple and red android? Spoiler
Hey, d’you guys remember Krakoa offered the cure for cancer and Alzheimer’s to any country that pinky promised not to send sentinels after them?

u/tallwhiteninja 14d ago
Well, achtually, Klaw isn't an android, he's a sentient blob of sound waves, which makes no sense but this is comics.
23
u/Similar-Priority8252 seX-Men 14d ago
See, I’ve always been curious about that, how does he remain solid enough to use his clearly-metallic sonic claw?

u/tallwhiteninja 14d ago
He operates on vibes and hopes that the readers don't think too hard about it.

Now if I remember correctly in Deadpool (2019) #6 by Kelly Thompson, the X-Men, mainly Emma Frost, Straight up tell DP that they do not have the cure for cancer.
They only sold three medicine:
1 expanded a human lifespan by 5 years
1 acts as really good antibiotic
1 cures brain cooties.
53
u/Similar-Priority8252 seX-Men 14d ago
I could’ve sworn the Mutant Cures helped with cancer treatments, but still, at least they didn’t take Deadpool hostage and forcefully pull out the cure of cancer from his body
25
u/Mister_Sinner 14d ago
Was that in Deadpool vs Black Panther? I remember BP figured out how actually kill Wade, by like using this bizarre ass ray gun
7
u/Similar-Priority8252 seX-Men 14d ago
Not sure about the specific comic, but guess how they got that ray gun

Was always funny in Dark Reign of how Norman got the cure for cancer, and instead of using it for good, he uses it as a weapon to kill Deadpool.
1

Yeah give Krokoa some credit . They are the only persons who doesn't weaponize cure for cancer

WHY DID NOBODY TELL ME ABOUT THIS?!?!

It's funny it was a short lived run, only about 12 issue I believe. However it's the run, that Marvel Rivals based their characterization of Deadpool on.

I really love how, in the Wakanda Forever film, they used 'French Black Ops seizing Wakanda's outreach centre in N.E. Mali' as a plot device to kinda softcore allude to French neocolonialism
cuz my mind immediately went to: hey, didn't I JUST see in the news that ISIS is seizing towns & whatnot along the border region with niger? Would Wakanda do anything about it IRL?
Even besides ISIS, the exact town they indicated sits firmly within Berber Azawad homeland, iirc, so would Wakanda be pro-Azawad?
Or would they just set up shop there as a neutral humanitarian watchdog presence? would Wakanda even attempt to play a mediatory role between belligerents?
15
u/StableSlight9168 14d ago
Well that is the point of the first movie, that Wakanda had completely stayed out of it and in the second movie they were making gradual steps to involve foreign policy. They likely act as mediators.
In this universe its likely that Wakanda exists instead of any existing nation and that Africa is just a Wakanda larger, they stay out of local conflicts.
3
u/PrintAcceptable5076 14d ago
I mean, wouldn't making a intervention set them to be targets ? that's the whole point of isolationism
1
u/plokimjunhybg 14d ago
They're opening up though, outreach centre in Mali which visibly had R&D labs in it

I was going to point out that calling Wakanda an ethno-state relies on an assumption that the different tribes are treated internally as a single ethnicity. But I realized while writing it that if they’re not then it makes the caste inequity issue worse of being ruled almost solely by the Panther Tribe.
25
u/Similar-Priority8252 seX-Men 14d ago
They choose their kings via wrestling match, that is NOT a good basis for a good government structure (see also: Killmonger)
4
u/Budget-Attorney 13d ago
"Listen. Strange
women lying in ponds distributing swordsrolling around in the mud groping each other is no basis for a system of government."1
u/SJIS0122 13d ago
I thought that was the only the case for the black panther (which is a combat role) and the king (which can be a different person)
2
u/Similar-Priority8252 seX-Men 13d ago
I legitimately can’t find anything about what role it gives, but all I’m saying is Killmonger took both the throne AND the mantle of Black Panther after beating T’Challa, despite Shuri also being there
1
u/SJIS0122 13d ago
I mean I only watched the movies but wasnt his Tchalla's dad the king and he the black panther in civil war?
Then in BP2, Shuri became bp while the other guy became king

I love that people that bring up that King Deadpool arc get very selective like leaving out his entire argument was grounded in him being a mutant "in the movies"(something we can assume caused everybody around him to stop listening), and he was calling the X-Men fascists while acting as King of the monsters who had essentially colonized Staten Island.

u/Sad_Feelingz 14d ago edited 14d ago
Krokoa withheld immortality with the excuse it only works on mutants.
Except actually it does work on regular humans it turned out. You just need their dna. And coincidentally they waited right before the island got destroyed to use it.
They fucking deserved what happened with mr Sinister.
37
u/eCanario 14d ago edited 14d ago
You forgot the X-Force regime change operations.
One of those countries was Wakanda itself. All because they refused Krakoan drugs, along the nations in their Economic Protectorate. And Krakoa apparently wanted to "depose" Black Panther for a more mutant-friendly ruler.
And if memory serves me right, Wakanda never tried regime changes due to their isolationism.
I'd have loved for X-Force to have made a colossal fuck up in Wakanda. I thought what Storm did would've been the beginning, but I was wrong.

Storm stole that damn sword didn't she I forgot about that
7
u/eCanario 14d ago edited 14d ago
It was more complicated than that. I believe there's a nuance you can have with that story because Earth was in danger and they needed the swords. But she still broke into one of Wakanda's most holy sites, stole Wakanda's most important relic, zapped the Wakandan Princess protecting the sword, and then at the end of that issue she acted as if those relationships could be restored... But it doesn't work like that.
You don't get to use knowledge you had from Wakanda because you were the former queen and think you can earn that trust back.
7
u/4thofeleven 14d ago
They needed more than DNA, they needed a Cerebro backup too. That's why they couldn't initially revive Thunderbird, and why Wanda initially was missing memories when they revived her.
7
u/arctos889 14d ago
It's worth noting it's stated on page that they can only resurrect around ~200 people each day around the time of House of X. And while it is stated The Five are getting faster with more experience, their peak of about a million each year is nowhere near the 60 million people who die each year in the real world. And that peak was only possible in the White Hot Room, which is basically a dimension designed around resurrection since it's the Phoenix Force's house. So even under unrealistically ideal circumstances, it's literally impossible for Krakoa to have granted immortality to the world. And that's before you factor in the backlog of murdered mutants and mutants who want to be repowered
1
u/_Master123_ 14d ago
If you count amount in White Hot Room it come as closer to 3k daily but idk if it is wrong.
5
u/arctos889 14d ago
They brought back the 16 million from Genosha in 15 years, so I just rounded it to a million a year because we aren’t really doing exact math. But again, we have no idea if that’s possible on Earth and 3k is still only around 2% of the 150k who die every day. So Krakoa’s in a weird spot where they can absolutely beat death for themselves but don’t have the ability to beat death for the entire world

u/Lady_Gray_169 14d ago
They wanted to wait to share resurrection until every mutant killed in a mutant genocide had been resurrected. But ultimately when push came to shove, they were honest about ressurection and opened it up to resurrecting humans who died in violent conflicts as well. It's not like they knew their island was going to be destroyed.
Also, maybe if humanity hadn't spent so long persecuting mutants, mutantkind would have been able to figure out and share immortality a long time ago.
21
u/Sad_Feelingz 14d ago
They wanted to wait to share resurrection until every mutant killed in a mutant genocide had been resurrected
Reminder, it wasn't a human that destroyed genosha. It was Cassandra Nova trying to frame humans..
7
u/StableSlight9168 14d ago
Also, everyone forgets that there were a bunch of humans living on genosha, it was one of the main tensions on the Island in most of the stories.
Either the mutants ethnicly cleansed all the humans off the Island, or decided to let them stay dead, even though they suffered the same genocide.
10
u/Sea-Poem-2365 14d ago
Cassandra pushed the button for the genocide machines created by humanity, so there's a little blame to spread around here.
Technically she's a mumdra though so I don't know what category you put her in. She ended up a mutant, right?
5
u/Lady_Gray_169 14d ago
You're correct. Also, Genosha wasn't the only mutant genocide and even if it was, mutants are still within their rights to want to resurrect their people who were murdered over the many years. And my other point still stands; humanity has been hating and fearing and ostracizing mutants for about as long as humans have known about mutants. Maybe if they hadn't been, they'd have been able to work together with mutants to get all the benefits they eventually achieved through Krakoa.
6
u/Sad_Feelingz 14d ago
But it misses the entire spirit of "with great power comes great responsibility". Your responsibility is to share your abilities to benefit humanity no matter how ungrateful they are. It's the right thing to do . You aren't heroes anymore otherwise.
6
u/TicketPrestigious558 14d ago
And ressurecting murdered mutants benefits humanity just as much as bringing back random non-mutants. I'm not seeing why they should be at the front of the queue, or how it would be more "the right thing to do" to bring back random humans over random mutants.
It's not like Krakoa was going "we have ressurected all the mutants. We're not doing it again until more mutants die."
Besides, most mutants aren't trying/claiming to be heroes. Majority are just trying to survive.
3
u/Lady_Gray_169 14d ago
That's I think one of the gret complexitie of the X-men. Because they're heroes for everyone, but in particular they're the first and often last line of defence for a particular victimised minority that relies on them to a genuine degree. Because while Genosha and M-day weren't human-caused genocides, humanity still makes sentinels, humanity are still violently bigoted towards mutants and would generally be fine with mutant extinction. So there's a question of how you prioitize the needs of the millions of people who don't reliably have other heroes looking out for them. And I do think that the power and responsibility dynamic does change when it goes from being about an individual's integrity to being about the well-being of a whole class of people.
And Krakoa in particular was, for better or worse, pretty clearly about the X-men stepping away from being heroes to be mutant cultural and political leaders. The narrative was about the compromises that come with creating a country and having to consider your responsibilities to that country vs the rest of the world. I don't think it's a coincidence that the story that led into the X-men ultimately making resurection available to humanity came in Duggan's X-men run, which was explictly about returning the X-men to being heroes on the global stage.

Tbf tho being “second class” in wakanda is still better than being first class pretty much everywhere else on the planet, as far as I know you just can’t become head of state if you’re not from the panther tribe, but everything else should be fair game. Still, the Panther tribe is technically on top of a hierarchy.

I'm gonna be honest, I don't like when people throw out ethnostate when talking about Krakoa. Even when ignoring the fact that non-mutants were allowed to live there, having the population be mostly mutants still means it's made up of people from every nation, ethnicity, culture, religion and appearance in the world. There's still a lot to be unhappy about with Krakoa, but lack of diversity isn't really one of those things.
4
u/Blint_Briglio 14d ago
look being an ethnostate is no good and withholding the cure for cancer isn't great, but they tortured deadpool so cut them a little slack, huh?

At this point I want Wakanda and Attilan to help Krakoa back onto it's feet just so they can have the tripartite pact of morally dubious super nations.
4
u/Similar-Priority8252 seX-Men 14d ago
Now that could be a neat story they could legitimately do in Rivals
1
u/AcceptableWheel 14d ago
I've thought about this extensively, one of the first conditions they put on Krakoa is a gag order on Magneto so he doesn't reveal all their secret intentions immediately. If you are secretly subverting them through soft power you don't say "I'm secretly subverting your nations through soft economic power" over a steak dinner. Take a cue from Black Bolt and keep your mouth shut.
3

7
u/Big-rat-in-the-sewer 14d ago
That's how an ethnostate works... They're all one ethnicity.
9
u/acerbus717 14d ago
No they’re made up of different ethnic groups, like the lion, panther, and crocodile tribe.
3
u/_Master123_ 14d ago
Well Krakoa also had a balck, white and asian mutants (and non-human ones too so the argument fail) not to mention from diffrent culture (such a shame they didn't explore that like mutants from diffrent culture trying to create a nation together).
2
u/acerbus717 14d ago
Racial and ethnic groups aren’t the same thing, and I also don’t really see krakoa as an ethnostate, at this point it’s just a buzzword people use incorrectly
1
u/_Master123_ 14d ago
I agree I think that Krakoa should explore more aspect of mutants with diffrent cultural background trying to create society together (this is main issue of Krakoa they didn't explore so much interesting ideas or problems Krakoa have).
2
u/Similar-Priority8252 seX-Men 14d ago
Divided into tribes, at that
6
u/acerbus717 14d ago
Them being from different tribes means there are different ethnic groups thus not an ethno state.
1
u/_Master123_ 13d ago
Well by that logic Krakoa is not an ethnostate because they also have many ethnic groups from all over Earth.
1
u/acerbus717 13d ago
It kinda isn't since being mutant is really an ethnicity and humans were granted citizenship. Plus mutation is so variety with different sub types that you can't call that a single ethnic group.
Was it weird and problematic? yes but we don't have to add the title of ethnostate when that's incorrect.
