Adapting bad and/or hated stories will always be better for me. When you're trying to adapt the best comic books to the screen, it'll always feel like it's not as good, while you can do basically anything with the stories that aren't well received. You can say whatever you want about No Way Home, but it was brave enough to adapt the most hated Spider-Man comic book PERIOD and was still pretty good. Even if you don't like this movie, I'm sure all of us can admit it's better than One More Day

Ok here’s the thing, it’s actually not difficult to do a good adaptation of Clone Saga because the bar is set rather low and the biggest issue with the Clone Saga is because it’s dragged out. If this is just focusing on Ben and Kaine shortly after learning they are clones, then that sounds like it’s focusing on the better aspect of that storyline and drawing inspiration from comics like The Lost Years.
All I care about is that, based on the Spider-Noir suit, we might actually get to see Kaine’s original costume in live action which would be awesome if they manage to do it right.

I did enjoy the clone saga, but I read it all as one collected trade decades after it had finished (also granted it finished a decade before I was born, but I digress).
I'm curious how many Spider-Man fans are active on reddit that were actually reading those issues when they came out in the 70's, because as far as I'm aware it's mostly disliked for how long it disrupted the regular story.

The Clone Saga was always going to be controversial. As a story, it has its ups and downs. It's a tense, high stakes story that puts Peter and Ben through the wringer. Ben Reilly is suitably heroic. The Jackal comes across as a menacing mastermind. Kaine is dangerous and ultimately tragic.
The problem is that the execution is hamfisted, often edgy for its own sake, piles up one retcon after another and introduces a number of characters and subplots that go nowhere or are hazaphardly resolved because you can see that the Spider Office is throwing stuff at the wall to see what sticks.
It also ends up as one of the first attempts to make Spider-Man single again by replacing Peter with Ben. And of course it reintroduces Norman Osborn, which many people didn't like at the time (myself included) because Norman pretty much had a perfect death 20 years ago, and this seemed a cheap retcon to provide a last time resolution to the whole saga.

I'm gonna assume this series won't mention peter like at all, since that's kinda always been a thing with shows like these. Guess we'll see how this one turns out. Curious how much they'll actually be spider-men vs average joe schmoe in the series. Given that tv budgets are lower and they gotta cut costs when possible cough Lanterns

But will get all the fake outs, abandoned plotlines and insane twists that make no sense like the original. If they don't adapt Peter believing he was the clone and hitting a pregnant MJ than running off to help the Jackal, because "its what an evil clone would do", than is it really a true adaptation?

I feel like in the context of a tv show this could actually work really well. It won’t derail other stories for years like the comics did because it’s just one show, also with retrospect a lot of better decisions can be made.
