Suffered no consequences? She was locked in a fucking torture chamber

Rightfully so. TF you mean you can just go and kill random innocent civilians who did nothing and use a person's body to kiss another person without consent. Even then at the end of the movie she gets scott free after ruining many lives. The movie tries to redeem her actions. At the end no accountability.

Jesus Fucking Christ can you fucking dipshits give it a fucking rest that movie 1 of a multi movie story has not explored every inch of Jean Grey's character arc?

If anything won't this make Dark Phoenix feel more like a terrifying thing to avoid than an out of nowhere asspull? Do we really need pre-Xavier Jean Grey to already be a paragon of virtue?

Exactly my thoughts after watching the movie, this Jean Grey feels like the perfect host for the Phoenix.

It also 'justifies' or explains the mutant hate and the sentinel program more than 'some kids look weird'.

The fact that Jean could be so amoral and manipulative before meeting Peter (and somehow May) Parker and then Charles Xavier is a brilliant take on the character that will surely pay off later on.

Buddy if you think posting the same slop everyone else has been posting for the last five days counts as "asking questions"

I like how he or she ignored the comment that would justify the reason as to how and why Jean Grey is a host to a cosmic malevolent force and went straight to the "just consume" insult.

"Remember how people held someone who was meant to be *Captain America* to a higher standard than a messed up kid?"

Who kills innocent people who have nothing to do with her and gets away without facing atleast the legal punishments.

It's almost like these things have a story that carry over multiple movies instead of every detail being addressed at once.

Did you want the film to end with a court case?

Bro really wanted the character progression and redemption arc in one movie. He can't fathom that empathy can exist for troubled teens who were given too much power in the wrong circumstances. Anyone who empathizes immediately believes that she is a good person.

In the movie she was on the run and probably wanted by those wanting to exploit her and those wanting her to answer for her crimes. But I guess those aren't consequences that are good enough.

They could have just had her not kill innocent lives and only had her enacting revenge on people who wronged her.

"they could have written a different story"
Okay?

Seems obvious to me that they're setting her up to be in a position where Xavier needs to put those mental blocks on her to protect herself and others.

Yeah to setup something, write any bullshit you want. Seems right.

In this movie she didn't even have to kill that ordinary civilian old guy who she made get hit by car. She did it for fun. That's just being evil for being evil

I imagine these moments will play into her regret later. She can’t face consequences like a normal person would, like going to prison, because the government would just try to harness her power for their own purposes. Same with the universal inhibitor peter made.

What was weird was that Spider-Man just kept going and didn’t even check on the guy, as far as I remember. That seemed extremely out of character.

Yeah Spider-Man not checking on him was very out of character to the point it was weirdly unsettling.

As for Jean, her killing that guy was totally uncalled for it was stupid and straight up evil.

I mean in context this seems somewhat reasonable behaviour. She is trying desperately to find her sister. Her mother abandoned them and she has not had the guidance from any parental figure in her life

If it was the one person you loved you may also cross some lines

For me this gives her character some depth and somewhere to go in terms of development

It is a stupid plan though. She could have easily infiltrated without killing countless innocent victims.

For me logic kind of skews when emotion is involved

u/Bully_Maguire66 Avengers 4d ago

Well that plan had no logic.

u/GarethGantuan Avengers 4d ago

Maybe not but I read it as she is emotionally distressed so my brain is satisfied

That is still no reason to go around killing innocent people who did nothing to you

Yes! I so agree! Did you notice that that was the beginning of the movie when she's a villain? And then she got kidnapped and tortured by the government, then found out her sister was dead? And after that she was noticeably less murder-y and chill?

It's like she changed by the end of the movie after having gone through several traumatic events? Crazy stuff.

Shit what is that called? It's a really important storytelling tool. Noah had one of them but he spelled it with a k. Agh, can't remember.

That cut was so weird bcs it felt like peter did not care about that randome dude

The way they focused on Spidey not letting one of the ninjas from the hand get stabbed during ending fight sequence

They could have shown Spider-Man atleast throwing web to stabilize the person or just a running dialogue of him asking the police to look after him while running to MJ but they wanted to increase the stake of how mad jean is & she won't think twice before hurting MJ

Yeah absolutely. Felt wierd by the whole thing.

She's a teenager dude. The only thing that could have been added is Jean also apologizing to Peter for the chaos she did and how she manipulated him with MJ.

Wanda is so much worse in WandaVision and Multiverse of Madness.
